I'm not a 'faller', though I did a doozie once at a wedding - dressed to the nines, slipped on some water/booze/whatever and splat! down I went.

    Total embarrassment! Embarassed

My thing: I hit wall trim edging - door edges - shelves in the stores. I'm usually in a hurry, walking fast & cut the corner too soon. Always have bruises on the side of my arms, on my hands, shoulders.

    59 & counting.....

I am 59 and holding. The big 60 is coming the end of January. Uh oh. I'm with you, Val, I run into doors all the time, bang my shins and generally am covered in bruises.

Hi All, I am 64 and haven't fallen recently, knock on wood.  Had second set of Faslodex shots today and this time it hurt so bad going in that I thought I was going to cry.  I may not do this again in 2 weeks.  I may call my onc and tell him to come up with another plan as this only has a 20 to 40 percent chance of working anyway.

I love reading all the wonderful posts on this site and hello to all the ladies I haven't met before.

rainbow...those shoes....oh, what I'd give to go out stomping in those. I have a big 'thing' about shoes....anything a bit weird and I have to go over and touch them. All I can do these days !!

Gone are the days when I would strut around in crazy shoes and boots! Actually, I still have most of them. DD takes after me, but she is 2 sizes bigger than me, and has no chance of getting mine on. She leans towards skyscraper heel 'biker' type boots. How on earth she drives ( or walks) in them I'll never know, but she does.

Like I said before I've been overweight and clumsy all my life.  In the 7th grade I heard that the colors navy blue and black were slimming.  After that that's all I wanted to wear.  My father teased me that it wasn't to make me look slimmer but to have my clothes match me skin.

AmyJo, posting as I read and I'm behind...but for the LE, please please please wear the sleeve every day. I've been dealing with LE for yrs now and the best thing we can do for ourselves is acknowledge that we can help it by wearing our sleeves. I hate it, truly I do, but I got to the point where I shower, dry off, and put on the sleeve immediately. After a while it's just routine and I don't even notice. My LE has been stable for more than 3 yrs now and I know it's cause I wear that dratted thing every single day.

More posts to come after I read back!

Still reading back ... falls ... I've had my share but thank God nothing requiring a visit to hospital! I will admit that some of them were after a few (ha ha) drinks back in the day, but some were just "didn't see it in my way" type things. Now I am soooo paranoid that I walk like the old ladies we used to laugh at - I stare at the ground while I walk from the train to work, from work to the train, from the front door to the car, etc.  I really do NOT want to break anything during a fall at this point in my life.  I've fallen into the couch, I fall into my chair at my work desk a lot ... what the hell is it with this lack of coordination???  Just glad it isn't only me :)

oh yes, the corners ... I have worked in the same office for more than 11 yrs ... I walk into the corner of my desk more times than I can count - always on my left thigh...it's permanently bruised!!!

I was NOT clumsy as a child, not at all. I have good balance otherwise so I'll blame cancer and chemo - that excuse has served me well for - drum roll - 6 yrs next week :)

Hugs to all and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

I didn't want to bring this up on the lunch thread, but Barbara, did you know that while you guys were down there, a 19 year old Japanese woman went over? I know this sounds like the start of a joke but it isn't. On Sunday, while we were eating away at Linda's, a girl was posing for her girlfriend on the cement wall that keeps people from falling in. She was HOLDING AN UMBRELLA!! Now, you have felt the tremendous thermals and spray pulses from the power of the water falling. What the heck do you think happened??? She was swept over the wall and went over the Falls. Her body was found yesterday. Poor, stupid thing. She certainly wasn't studying physics!

OMG, that is terrible! I could feel the thermals when Ann and I were there. Oh, that is just awful.

Now you see why I didn't want to dampen the lunch thread! It's been eating away at me all week. Helen and I heard the story as we were driving back to Toronto! As soon as they said 'holding an umbrella' we both groaned. They haven't mentioned the umbrella since Sunday. I guess too many people reacted to the stupidity rather than the horror. Can you imagine seeing your friend go over??? I don't know how you'd live with yourself.....

marlegal - I think it depends on the amount of LE a person has. I have had mild lymphedema for about two years now and wear the sleeve sometimes, like when flying or mowing the lawn. Mostly I do preventative things like carry my purse on the good shoulder, don't carry heavy things with the LE side (except the baby because babies just weigh love), do the self massage as many days as I remember, and try to remember to raise my arm, clench my fist and breathe deeply several times a day. It seems to ebb and flow and if it is getting thicker, I wear the sleeve.  I find it is much better if I get enough sleep and am not over stressed.  I think we each need to do what works for ourselves. Wearing a sleeve all the time works for you. I find it OK to leave it on the shelf most of the time. We are all different.

Wow, I was gone for 2 days and had to read 4 pages to catch up with all of you.

I am 61 (62 in Dec) and I have been more than a little clutzy all my life.  When I was little my Dad would pick me up and carry me up or down stairs and on esculators to keep me from falling.  Yes I even fall UP the stairs!  I also hit my head on cabinet doors that people leave open, being 5'2" I don't always see when an upper cabinet door has been left open.  If a peice of furniture has a corner I will run into it every time I pass it.  My family says my middle name should have been Grace as that would be the only Grace I would have.

56 - It's not my fault!!!! 1. about 4 years ago when I slipped on black ice on my walk and thought I had broken my hand (my landlady had neglected to put down any ice melt.) 2. 4th of July weekend, about 3 years ago, when I tripped over a seam in the concrete at a gas station and got a hairline fracture in my elbow. 3. 2 years ago, a few weeks after my 1st knee replacement, at Foxwoods Casino, when my brother tripped me with his cane ( I say he accidently tripped me, he says I accidently tripped myself). 4. Last October, about 4 1/2 months after my 2nd knee replacement, at the Topsfield Fair, when I tripped over a huge crack in the pavement of the main walkway through the fair. My sunglassES frame went into my forehead, causing a deep cut that took 15 stitches to close and the worst shiner I ever had in my life. But again. IT'S NOT MY FAULT!!!!Smile

Head wounds bleed so beautifully Hauntie!!! You must have been quite a sight!! I hope they reimbursed your fair entry fee! I'd stay out of casinos after knee replacements too, if I were you.....

Loved the pix of the Falls, BarbA, thanks for posting, and for sharing your experience.!

Yesterday was exceptional here.  Family picnic at the lake, with our little boat.  We got the prime picnic spot -- this particular lake is not set up for recreation, or just minorly so, and it is too cold for swimmers or skiiers.  Yaay for us, because it's perfect for small, quiet boats - kayaks, small fishing, sailing; and for hiking.  There was one kayak on the lake besides our boat plus we ran off or discouraged some dirt bikers, and there were a few others who stopped, went in and out of the water in five minutes & left again...  We stayed until about 5 (it's a half-hour on a dirt road plus 20 min on pavement).  Then bro & "the kids" (24-30 yrs old) all went home and DH and I went back up the hill - all pavement -  where there was another big jam session - some really good music that "made me feel young again" .... So even tho I woke at 3:30 yesterday and it was a long day, it was just a nice day all around.  Perfect weather.  I slept well last night too - what a treat a good night's sleep is.  Today is bbq at oldest nephew's.

We are enjoying all our time together before the middle nephew's leave ends and he heads back to the service and his next posting at a sandbox battlefield.  One of the reasons I don't sleep well right now, I'm sure...

But today is today, and I have some veggies to pick & preserve before the bbq. I hope each of you has a pleasant day - somehow, some way.

Lost Creek, here is reality!! I was yearning for the day you had...it sounded just perfect and I was going to whine....then I read about your nephew going back into service and I had to thank God that I didn't have a day like yours yesterday. May God hold him and keep him and smile down upon him.

I re-read that and realized how selfish it sounds how I worded it. All I meant was, that there for the grace of God goes my 3 American nephews! I am lucky that they have never been called. My sister is Canadian and has stayed that way for the past 30+ years. I wonder if that makes any difference in a draft? Is it all voluntary now? Do I sound ignorant and stupid? If so, I apologize. I'll email my sister to see why her sons aren't serving.

My sister said they have to register at 18 (all of them have then) but then nothing happens unless they chose a military career. How honourable of those that do!! I always thank a soldier when I see them in public. I live near a rather large army base (Base Borden) here in Ontario....
