TN Ten Pounds Take-Off
Comments

Hey everyone!
Still hanging at 124. My 42 year old body just doesn't want to drop that last 10-15 pounds sitting squarely on my butt and thighs, sigh. I'm a size 8, but would love to drop to a 6. I have a fabulous pair of jeans that I want to wear just ONE more time...gotta have goals!
Heidi and Lee - it isn't so much weight loss that helps TN, but low-fat and exercise. The WINS study showed a significant survival benefit in keeping fat under 20% of your total calories and exercising 3 hours per week. But they haven't looked at it much more than that. And under 20% isn't easy, that's for sure!
So I've done pretty well on my diet - between 20-25% fat the past week, but my carbs are starting to creep up. Too much wheat. But my exercise has been crap
. Between the headaches, the joint pain and the fatigue, I have NO motivation. You'd think LIVING would be motivation, sigh. But next week I'm going to hit the gym with my BF and start swimming - easier on the joints at least, and I love the water.
Have a great day/week everyone!
-
I am at 142 now. I either go up or down a couple of pounds. Can seem to do anything else.
Suze: I would love to be 124 and a size 8. I need to hit the gym also--maybe after kids start school. Swimming is great.
-
Lynn - I know, it sounds like a good weight, I should probably just accept biology and call it a day there. I got up to 140+ during chemo, lost 4-6 pounds with surgery (lol), and then dropped a bit more, but now I'm in neutral. I'm pretty tiny - 5'2", small framed. I'm not restricting my calories really, I'm more here to keep me on track for healthy eating and exercise, not doing so well there, lol.
-
132 this morning. Went back to weight watchers so hopefully will get rid of the last 4 pounds I gained from Chemo.
-
153 uuuggghhh....

Hi Everyone! Well, I actually lost weight on vacation and now gained it back so I am hanging around at 158. The dr's office said 163 but I deducted 5 pounds for just having had breakfast and wearing all of my clothes and shoes.
Welcome to the newbies and I agree with Suze: It's all about keeping the fat intake down and excercise and not all about how much we weigh.
-
My Mac is sick again so I'm on this blasted PC... it
It's VERY hard on my neck (big screen but angle of viewing kills me).
-
Heidi- I hope its not too hard to change our weights because mine is still bouncing around. After the crashed car calories, I got a stomach virus and today after breakfast, I'm at 143.6. God, if I could walk or exercise instead of sitting around this dammed house all day, I think I could drop those nasty ten lbs that are keeping me in a size 12.
Its not worth a headache trying to view a computer screen. Go groom the horses instead:)

Ugg, I have been on a bad eating binge! I need to knock it off! No more sugar!!! I think I am addicted and I have a problem with going to Starbucks too often! I must stop, it is for my health!
-
bak--I agree with you. I think that the sugar is addictive. Back in June I found out that my triglyceride level was 226. My MD advised that I cut out refined sugars(candy, cake, cookies and ice cream for example) Also was told to increase my daily fiber. Lastly to increase my physical activity. I was already going to the gym 4 or 5 times a week. So I knew that the sugar really had to go in a big way.
I had a habit of eating anything sweet after every meal even though I was totally full. And if I didn't have cookies or candy in the house i would take to opening the semi sweet choco chips used for baking cookies to get my "fix"
I went "Cold Turkey". It took about 2 weeks for my cravings to be under control. I was up to 174 lbs the day my blood test was taken( May27) and when I had a follow up visit on Aug 1 my wt was 166. I have since lost another 2 lbs. I have been enjoying an occasional dessert....my DH and I went out for a wonderful dinner and ordered a lava cake to share....I drank lots of water while he ate the cake and I would have and occasional spoonful instead of going one for one bite with him. It satisfied me and I didn't wake up the next morning feeling guilty for falling off the wagaon..
So hang in there and know that you are not alone. Set your mind to try again. You can do it. I think I saw a thread called Stop the Sugar here on BCO. Those gals might have some other tips to help you out.

Navy Mom..are you taking flax seed oil? I don't have any studies or anything..but my triglycerides were also over 200 but now they are down to 80.....haven't really cut out sugar and/or wine...I've got my DH taking it also and it will be interesting to see what his count is next time it is checked.
Oh..and exercise is supposed to help also...20 minutes per day..just walking briskly.
When my trigs were so high I weighed 128 lbs....which is very very weird.
Oh..still at 136...I think this may be my true weight..I really don't want to lose any more..or gain anymore..I'm 5'5" and medium boned...BMI is now at 24...
-
NavyMom-thanks, I will check out the sugar thread! I know I feel better when I limit it, but it seems to be all I want right now.

#163 this morning. Taking my FIL home today after open heart surgery. I have been able to get in two brisk walks in in the past 7 days. BUT my grandson has been at my house and he is a busy 15 month old that is into every thing......No wonder why I was skin and bones as a new mom all those years ago. Chasing around a toddler...

Weather was pretty good in my area so I got in a real good walk this weekend. So ready for fall....
Ladies this is the week I really discovered my lump I felt it in July, but it wasn't that noticable by the time August got here it was no denying it.
I am skipping the scales this week and will weigh in next monday!
Sorry for rambling...
-
Fighter: Big hugs to you. My 2 year is one month away and it is still hard.
-
Fighter - thinking of you. I'm a month away from my 1-year, and slowly starting to feel emotional about it.
Down to 123.5 - so 1.5 pounds in 2 weeks. That works, although I'm not really trying to lose too much weight. But I fit into my first "skinny" jeans - yea!!! I bought them last year and have never been able to wear them.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to increase my calories but not my fat?? I've been eating healthy grains, fruit, etc., but still can't get my usual daily calories above 1200. I really need to be at about 1300+ to feel my best. I find myself eating applesauce at night just to try and squeeze in more! I'd love to do it with wine
, but not the healiest option.
-
Hi ladies. It has been a while since I posted. Been so crazy with work and trying just to enjoy the summer when I can. Still over the 200 mark 203.1 to be exact. Eating salads and watermelon every day and yogert for breakfast and it still is not comming off. I think I need to do a no calorie diet and see what happens..LOL I think my downfall is the weekends when we are on the go and just stop whereve to grab something quick to eat. I guess I should try and eat better when we are out. Glad to see alot of you are doing good and for those of us who are still struggling, we can prevail
-
Jen- try a low carb diet...you can eat hamburgers on the run (no bun) and nuts to snack on and eggs and bacon for breakfast...never hungry!! But you do have to plan on what you're having to eat and have it in the house. No way could I eat food on the run and maintain calories!
Suze- I can't think of anything low in fat...cashews, peanut butter...all hi protein and calories, but also fat. Almonds are low in fat...7 gms for about 14 whole almonds. yum! Do Boost and Ensure have a lot of fat? How about a hard boiled egg? I'm just making myself hungry now...
-
Jen - I agree with Ruth that a lower carb diet works well, just don't go nuts with the fat, which can happen when you cut the carbs. Also - don't starve yourself!! I have found that I lose weight better at 1300 calories/day with light exercise than less than 1200/day. Sometimes, your body just hangs onto that weight. Don't be afraid of upping the calories a bit - you might be surprised!
tnbcRuth - Its frustrating to add calories with no fat, lol. I'm realllllly trying to stay in the 20% range of fat per the studies, but ugh. A supplement/protein drink may be a good alternative, especially now that I'm getting back into exercise. Thanks for the tip!
So, I joined the YMCA today, and will start swimming next week. They have a great facility near my house, with pool, full work-out rooms, a running track, and tons of classes. By BFF swims (she does relay triathalons) so she's going to work with me on my stroke and get me going. I've dropped all the weight I really need to, now it's time to redistribute it!!
-
Suze35- I did the 20% low fat also for about a year, then said the heck with it. I got tired of recording my fat intake (though I did get down to 124 doing it). I found it just served to remind me of BC, and concluded that since I was already at an acceptable weight (134) I was not going to beat myself up anymore or stress out when I went over. As for calories and no fat... would fruit smoothies do that?
-
No loss and no gain. I need to eat less fat and carbs! I am addicted and need to stop.
-
Ugh-still in a holding pattern-no change!
-
Heidi - d'oh! Smoothies is a great idea! I can freeze some greek yogurt and mix it up with berries and a little whey. Thanks! I'm still in the "must do all I can" panic mode, but I do try and let myself have breaks every so often. Lately I've found that if I allow myself a bit more fat every few days, it helps with weight loss and I feel good. I hope I can get to where you are one day
.
-
Still holding at 132. I had gotten lower, but after a weekend in New York I am right back to 132. Re-joined Weight watchers with 3 other friends from work so hopefully next week I will have a loss.
-
Ugh-back up to 160 and I look it-just call me the muffin top queen. Time to only have one large meal in the morning and nothing fattening the rest of the day. I wish I had some money coming in as I know a gym would really help.
-
I was doing soooo good and really getting in some exercise, still hadn't budged scale wise but felt less bloated and then last night I had company and my kids had friends over and well.... that kind of blew it... So anyone know what the deal is with bananas, I've read good and bad and can't figure out which it is.... So still the same... sigh
-
161 this am.
Stanzie: not sure what the info is on bananas....Always heard that they are good in potassium and good to eat if you are having issues with diarrhea. I don't care to eat bananas, but always have the mindset that eating fruit in general is a good thing and helps to keep me full.
Waving hello to everyone! I am off to the gym this morning and trying to get back on track. My FIL is recovering from his open heart surgery, and my own father is recovery from knee surgery. Navyson and family were in for a 2 week visit during all this too! what a crazy life. DH and I are back to being empty nesters.....let the fun resume!!
-
Joining the gym today! Can't do much but a little something is better than nothing! You can't turn down $10 a month. Doing it mostly to support a friend who has no willpower with pasta, but I'm sure to benefit lots too! (Nooo weight check in today! My mouth has been a garbage disposal for a week!)
Cross your fingers that hurricane Irene doesn't blow us off the map!
-
Fighter_34 has been a BAD GIRL!!!.....and that's all Imma say about that.
I have gained a couple of ounces so I am like 170.6.
-
Hi NavyMom. I am starting a zumba class in a week or so. Meets 3 times a week so hoping for good things.
