That one looks very Georgia O'Keeffe, Lisa. Excellent, as usual.

Barbe, your mind is lively, and you have an adventuresome spirit...

My yesterday was a bit of an adventure. Volunteerism in America:

Picture a small-town park nestled among the pines; a community hall built by the community in the 50s; and a small but world-class logging and mining museum complete with a Gold Rush mini-village (stores, shops, saloon, printer, sheriff & jail, etc) (built by the community in the 70s, no grants or govt money)

On one side are the "mountain men" in their skins & furs, complete with tomahawks and long rifles, and encampment -- fast-forward 75 years or so to the "village" where the characters are in c.1860s  getup, including plenty of saloon gals or "fallen women".... Mix this with 2 or 3 bands, lots of food, Smokey The Bear, and plenty of people out for a good time.  Tons of children, and children's activities....Folks you haven't seen in awhile... hugs, shouts, laughter, and pure-dee Goldilocks weather...

I ate my way through yesterday. Have been being "good" for so long, it felt great to cut loose and have a burger and a hot dog!  If there'd been cotton candy I'd have had some of that too, but settled for an Italian Ice...

Anyway, that's a trip through the Lost Sierras.

ETA I forgot to mention the (mock) gunfights in the village streets - always a crowd pleaser...

L_C how cool. Sounds like a blast to me. We have similar festivals. One I particularly like is the sandcastle competition. It is world class and people come from all over the world to compete. My other favorite is "The Beach Goes Pop". The FL Orchestra sets up on the beach and does a night concert followed by fireworks. Always a great evening.

East into the mountains from Oroville - Next week is the Berry Festival at Berry Creek. Quite a bit (relatively) bigger, but no more fun. And they sell hundreds and hundreds of berry pies...

Hello everyone.   Welcome to the newbies.  I have been reading, but not posting, as with other threads I follow.   As with other detours in my life's journey, I am back on the main road and will be concentrating on in person adventures.

A couple of adventures right now:   volunteer club I belong to has a big shake up over the head person's conduct and comments.   Two friends have BC and one has recurrence in less than 6 months and starts chemo Friday.   I will have hand surgery in a week and the other hand once this one is healed.

I am backing off from checking the threads each and every day, but I offer my best Hugs, Blessings, Good Vibes, and prayers for all of you.   Nancy

    Hey there everyone,

We have a new Grandson finally!!!! Micah James Meeker, 8 lbs. 11 ozs., 21 inches, born August 6th, 2011 at 1:53 p.m. PST.  He was born just as we were taking off from Raleigh to go to Monterey so we did not know until we landed in Las Vegas and could turn the cell phones back on.  Mother and baby are doing great.  Headed to the hospital in a few minutes.  I will be MIA for a while as there is a lot to do around here before they come home.  I'll post pictures as I have time.

Welcome to this group Barbe, good to see you here.

Just jumping in to say hello.  I haven't been around much lately and have missed everyone. I'm not very lively either, except in my mind where I'm still young and pretty and ready to try anything.  Love all the pics.  Darla

Thanks for all the comments on Micah.  He is already his own person and has a great set of lung and yes Barbe he has all 10 toes and 10 fingers all in the riight place.  He is keeping everyone very busy.  Everyone has a shift to hold him, I don't thing he has been put down except to travel home and then to the Dr for his first check-up today.  The little guy is already trying to hold his head up and grabbing anything that gets close enough for him to reach and his eyes are tracking sounds and he tries to track people.  Needless to say we are throughly enjoying him while we are here.  He actually looks a whole lot like Matthew and Kaitlyn did when they were born.

Well, I must be off to bed before my night shift starts.  love and hugs to all.

AmyJo, don't you find it amazing how AWARE they are??? All my grands wanted to do was look around and move their heads!!!  It blew me away. I don't remember that when my kids were young.
