New here - natural therapies instead of chemo and radiation
Hi ladies,
Love reading all the posts, and regardless of whether chemo, radiation, surgery or natural therapies were chosen, we all seem to have the same fears and hope for a future without the dreaded 'C'. Hope to hear from others who have chosen to fight this battle naturally. I did have surgery to remove my right breast as my tumour was very large (9cm) and very aggressive and I also had Paget's disease in my nipple from cancer cells that had broken away. Apart from that though I have only used diet, juicing, supplementation, exercise, meditation and visualisation for my treatment protocol. I met with an enormous amount of opposition from the medical profession, family and some friends who thought I was completely bonkers for not having chemo and radiation, but as I told them it is my body and my choice, no-one else's......but here I am 13mths after surgery, with all my scans showing no cancer. I feel so grateful to have reached this milestone, considering the oncologist I originally spoke to, when weighing up all my treatment options, informed me that I would be dead in 1 to 2 years time if I didn't do chemo, etc. I would love to hear what others have done naturally and if they met with the same opposition, and how their treatments are working out. Positive vibes and happy thoughts to one and all. Kazza xx

Hi Kazza,
I'm fairly new to this so I don't have any advice or stories, just yet. Would love to hear some of the things you've done in detail. Welcome. -
Hi-- I DID do chemo and radiation but have used lots of natural therapies as well: accupuncture, diet, etc. would love to know specifically what you are taking and doing--
-
kazza7,
I can't really give you any advice personally, but would suggest you visit the Alternative medicine threads. You will meet some people there who are also following treatment plans similar to yours.
Good luck!

Hi, welcome Kazza from another Aussie who has similar beliefs but did have some adjuvant treatments. There was a similar question asked in February in a thread called "Survivors who have used only alternative treatments" in the alternative section. Click on that link to go to the start and you'll see what sort of reception your question may attract. 82 pages, nearly 2500 posts of sometimes heated discussion. I'm sure you've heard it all before.
If you click on the name of the originator of that thread, wornoutmom, look for the link to send her a message and you'll find her a lovely person who has a lot in common with you who can answer some of your questions.
The Alternative section has just been started and you're welcome to ask the same question over there. Unfortunately your title will attract a lot of people when it shows on the Active Topics every time anyone replies and most will be fearful for your wellbeing, but as 13 months have passed it's too late for chemo etc now anyway. If you start a new thread you might want to give it a different title though it's a shame we alternative ladies need to do that.
Feel free to send me a personal message any time.
Joy - 10:30pm eastern Australia time.

Did you consider going to the Gawler retreat in Melbourne? I did inquire but it's rather expensive. I found the book written by different people who used his methods incredibly inspiring. It's called Surviving cancer, edited by Paul Kraus. I still read a chapter at a time, over and over, for the "hope" part of my plan, as well as some of the inspiring stories from the women here who are still cancer free after many years.

I did the tradtional route but I try to be very Alkanline..I drink a gallon of alkaline water per day, supplements, juice, wheat grass, meditation and now I exercise twice a day to help with blood sugar. My goal is always 1000 calories per day to burn. I also eat a red pepper daily... I love sugar though that is my downfall. Welcome:)!

Kazza - Did you not try to get herceptin by itself? It might be worth your researching herceptin and HER2+ve bc. Yes, I'm one who would push anyone who was HER2+ve to have chemo/herceptin as I do realise how serious that diagnosis is - I had it and was node negative. I do hope, down the track, you don't end up regretting your decision.
-
Susan - were you HER2+ve? I don't recall you sharing your diagnosis anywhere here.
-
I'm not hating - I'm asking you a question. Kazza - we all make our own choices, good luck

personally Kazza.. at stage III I think you're playing with fire,....... abandoning what modern meds can do for you.. that said I firmly believe that a proactive - hi nutrient diet is one of your best defenses (in combo with the weapons you arm yourself with). If you watch 'the natural shows' and read current literature you may find (as I have) that the proponents of these ways address weight, wellness, diabetes, heart disease.... but kind of avoid the cancer issue. They may allude to them but tend to avoid talking about it.. unless saying one can avoid cancer.. and I fully believe diet and supplementation can help. That said, a 9 cm tumor is really really really large.. If it grew rapidly or slowly is beside the point that it may have very likely contributed to other cancer cells proliferating... particularly since you mentioned the Paget's disease.
I myself am stage IV.. I certainly don't think from any fault of my own... my diet and lifestyle were great.
Do visit the alternative thread.. There is a whole section of this forum dedicated to those who eschew modern medicine totally and 'go natural or altenative'. It is one thing to be proud of one's choices and another to 'claim victory' too soon. I don't see anything wrong in extending a kind invitation to the alternative theads.
Joy - isn't that a bit too much information .. to assume that an innocent question will me bet with a 'fight'. anyway, if there is going to be one.. maybe it could be in the proper natural therapies area. One doesn't usually see the post after post after post after post link thingy in this area. .. and that's good.

I think it's interesting that those who are pro alternative are usually not HER2+ve - do they realise how serious this diagnosis is?

Kazza ~ I love your picture. You look so vibrant and happy. I avoided radiation and chemo ~ but mainly because of my choice of having a BMX and my low oncotype score. I am taking Tamoxifen for 5 years though.
You sound very comfortable and confident with your choices and I wish you many many years of happiness and good health.
