barbara A
good luck on your demo
-
BarbA, hope you knock their sox off at the demo, make lots of money, find a winning lottery ticket on your way to the airport, and have no jet lag.
Here are a couple of my old and well-tested "preserving" recipes. No canner needed...
Spirits for the spirited:
LOST CREEK KAHLUA 2 cups water; 2 pounds granulated sugar (one pound = 2 1/4 cups, so 4 1/2 c. sugar); 2 oz good instant coffee, one vanilla bean; a fifth of good brandy. Bring water to boil, add coffee. Add sugar and stir until dissolved; bring back to boil and watch closely because it can boil over quickly and make a horrible mess. Remove from heat and add vanilla bean. Cool, then add brandy (if the liquid is too warm, the alcohol will evaporate.) Divide the vanilla bean between 2 bottles and pour liquid into bottles. Allow to sit for 30 days. For Black Russian mix, substitute one half brandy and half vodka. (from my friend Beth, 1976)
Alternatively, in 1979, in Ohio, I got this recipe from Beth's friend Jo, after I almost fell off Jo's kitchen chair after 2 cups of coffee & kahlua...
JoLayton's KNOCKOUT KAHLUA
Dissolve 3 Tablespoons instant coffee in 1/2 cup boiling water. Add 1 1/2 cups sugar and 1 cup water, bring to boil. Allow to cool. Add 3 tablespoons pure vanilla and 6 ounces Everclear. Allow to age one hour to four weeks.
Have a good day all.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((Marybe))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Barb...the VERY BEST of luck tomorrow.
That's me for tonight....just had a monster bill paying jag. I started about 1pm...haven't worked very hard, just plodded along, but didn't finish until almost 9pm. I am cross-eyed ! I am SOOO bl**dy sick of things being wrong. Now, I am not the cleverest when it comes to checking things. I USED to just pay up and never think twice, but then I started to look, and look again, and boy are there lots of mistakes on my invoices. Then we come to the 'phone...press 1 for this and 2 for that, and so on, and so on forever. I am so very sick of being put thru' to India then I can't understand what they are saying. I TRY to keep my calm but in the end I explode and ask for someone I can understand....then I'm thinking will the 'racial police' be landing in a helicopter ( or helimopter as my little G/daughter calls them !! ) in my garden any minute, and hauling me off for demanding someone who speaks plain English.
I needed to contact my bank, all of 5 miles away, and could I hellaslike do this one simple thing. I ended up in a call centre in Ireland...and the bank is owned by Australians. OMG . I used to be able to just dial straight thru' to my branch, ask for the manager by his christian name and GET HIM...IN A COUPLE OF MINUTES FLAT. Now, no-one has heard of the man, and no wonder when they're hundreds of miles away in another country. I am ready for sacking the lot of them the way I feel tonight. If I don't get Marks (bank manager) straight thru' line when I see him this week I shall be shifting my account !
Time I packed in all this 'stuff'. I have to pay an accountant to 'do' my books. To cut her exorbitant fees I opted to do day to day things. She just OK's what I have done and still charges me top dollar....and I have had all the hassle of the blasted 'phones. I HATE PHONES. I was filling in an online form this afternoon, and twice I was asked for my mobile number. I DO NOT have a mobile 'phone. I could not give then it, so the form could not be filled in.....so....I just flicked open the 'phone number book, and put down any old number, and the form went thru'. Someone, somewhere will be getting a call they know nothing about !!! And I don't give a toss.
I need a double whisky right now, no, make that a treble.
Isabella.
-
((ISABELLA)) I hate phones, too. Missed you so much and am so glad to 'see' you!
OK, I think I killed it today, judging from the comments and body language. Will know next week is we make the final cut. Off to bed go I as I must be up at 4 to pack then leave at 5:30.
-
yikes Barbara..that is torture to have to leave then..
-
Barb - great job, I knew you could/would do it! Hope everything goes well with the final cut.. Safe travels home.
Isabella - OMG what an ordeal bill paying is. I always have to ask for someone in America when I call for anything especially computer service stuff. If the helicopters would come, they would come to my house first. I used to get the same kind of thing with my bank until I switch to a locally owned bank. Now I get the best service every. They treat me like I am their only customer. Everyone knows me and greets me by name and a human answers the phone when I call.

Just posted and joined. My Mother is 81. Just diagnosed with Invasive Moderately Differentiated Ductal Carcinoma of the Right Breast. On the ultra sound the tumor is 1.5 cm. She was told yesterday after having a Biospy.

ok, so my 2nd opinion was yesterday.. he said im fat, too.. No, he also thinks i have Hasimotos disease, which makes sense, re: my MS>> i won't be seeing him, tho, i liked the other drs better, and they're not so "full of themselves"hahaha
im gonna see tomorrow, or monday; if the drs. i settled on will increase the dosage on the synthroid. 50 was doing good, and the 25 is not so..we'll see..
good to see everyone here, especially YOU, ISABELLA!! we stick to a local bank here, for just those reasons!!...........3jays
-
Lisa, when I come west, I stick to east coast time: I go to bed at 8 and get up at 4. That way I have no jet lag so getting up at 4 is fine.
Thanks AJ. Not sure I *want* to make the final cut. These people are weird.
Welcome pbixler. Sorry you have to be here but this site is a wealth of information.
-
BarbA, if your instincts are that these clients are wierd, they probably are. I hope you get the account, but only if they won't be more trouble than they're worth.
Call centers in "other" countries. Arrgghhh! My friend just switched plans with one phone co., spent hours & hours trying to get the billing right, finally said "I need to talk to someone in the US", and got the number for the US call center, who fixed things right away. Banks: we used a local bank for all the same reasons -- until it failed last year and now it's owned by some huge agri-biz bank from the Netherlands! So, even though I can get through to the locals, and it's still the same staff as before, finding a new local bank is on my list. There are only one or two local banks left in our area and switching our accounts is a daunting proposition... Isabella, you have my sympathy!
Spent yesterday getting goodie bags ready for our town's little August festival on Saturday. Held at the park and our small-but-world-class mining & logging museum here in town. Usually about 1000+ visitors. I do fire-safe booth, and have a ton of Smokey Bear and other "stuff" for the kids. (Adults get mostly informational literature) This year I got temporary tattoos and"whiz rings" for the kids (like frisbees, but a donut). Our booth should be popular with kids, who will annoy their parents with these items.
We usually get lots of pencils & erasers, coloring books &c from agencies, but we never get goodies like the whiz rings, so our group purchased a box of 250 for $50. This year, even the agencies have less give-aways, so we bought our own pencils too! Today is getting the "presentation" for the booth together - posters & maps &c. We usually have a big display board from the central fire safe council, but not this year, and I have to figure out something. CalFire gave us a batch of old, probably collectible, Smokey posters, and I may try to do something with that. I suppose thinking about it is what woke me at 3 this morning...This evening we set up the booth at the park, and tomorrow is a long day...
Also, as long as there's no fire nearby, we'll have a visit from Smokey too. Kids love that.
Welcome pbixler. Best wishes for your mom; it's nice you are helping her. 3jays, I hope you get your meds squared away and feel better.
We are getting so many cukes and zucchini I'm stopping drivers on our street and tossing them a bagful!
ETA: Marybe, I hope the concert is exceptional, and would bet it is. McCartney is one who has aged and grown well through time - Some of his contemporaries not so much. Thinking of you and wishing you best of luck with your tx, and all-ways.
-
One more thing -- ChrissyB, I found a little half-pint canning jar that I think will travel ok, even to OZ. After you get home from your September adventure, I'll send you a jar of homemade B&B pickles.
I guess it would get through customs.???

Lovely Lisa.
-
That looks photo-shopped! (that's a compliment
)
-
Wow.
-
Lisa - georgous as always.
-
no photo shop...just took it along the road and the river is the Colorado..
I am glad you like it...
-
Lisa, I am in awe of your talent and your eye for beauty.
-
aww shucks...thanks
-
Here are some pics from the concert.....he was and is still my favorite Beatle ( although all the others are gone except for Ringo) but he really was fab as they used to call them....The Fab Four. Hard to believe he is 69 years old. Oh and Barb, I checked, I did not see them until 1966 when they were at Crosley Field....the lst time they were in Cincy they were at The Gardens, and that was 64 and I did not go to that show. There were 42,000 people there Thurs night at the ballpark....think that is probably more than the Reds draw. And I was surprised they did serve meat and I got my brat.....everyone said that since he is a strict vegan he requested no meat sales at his concerts, but I guess it was not enforced.
-
I am joining you ladies. I hope you don't mind. I don't seem to fit in anywhere else.... I find I'm not a "middle" as they keep having younger kids. Mine are starting to get over 30, so I've moving over here.
Do I need to introduce myself?
-
Oh! Would like to add that I've done 2 of the 4 pictures at the intro to the thread. I have a motorcycle driver's license and used to own a low-rider. I have an urge to get one again. I sold mine to get a stainless steel one 16 years ago! Fridge is long gone, the bike would have still been here...bad trade!!!
I have also scuba dived in both Atlantic (preferred) and Pacific oceans as well as the Gulf of Mexico and off the coast of Venezuela off the island of Bonaire. Less than 2% of the world's population have seen what I have seen! I feel very lucky I did it already as I'm in no condition to do it now!!!
-
hey, Barbe, good to see you here..
-
Barbe, For some reason I already thought you were on here. Of course you are welcome. At least you did things when you were able......a good of example of never put off til tomorrow.
-
I'm not lively....that's why I never joined, but some other threads are turning into recon threads!!!
-
barbe - My body isn't so lively any more either but I feel we both belong here because we do have lively minds!
-
Good to see you Barbe. I haven't done but one of the above things but I am game. I met some BCO gals for lunch today then we went to the Dali Museum. Great fun! From left to right: specialK, me, sunnycoconut, leeh and Kira.
-
We all have lively imaginations too...
bet you are glad to be safely home Barbara
-
Yes, Lsa, I slept until 10:30. Unheard of for me!
-
