Very well put enjoyful - people are definitely oversimplifying the issue of increased spending. I don't have any pithy comments about cantaloupe - sorry. And, I have no idea what I am having for dinner -  And, libertard bothered me a whole lot more than conservatard come to think about it.

Dollar tanks vs Swiss franc, yen on economic fears

The dollar is looking less and less attractive from a growth, fiscal and monetary perspective," said Kathy Lien. director of currency research at GFT Forex in New York.

"The recovery has lost momentum, the U.S. is up to its neck in debt and the Federal Reserve is considering more stimulus."

Analysts have said that even if a last-minute deal to lift the debt limit is struck before the August 2 deadline, a rating downgrade appears likely without a comprehensive plan to cut the deficit. A cut would raise U.S. borrowing costs, hurting an already weak economy, rattle investors and likely hurt the dollar.

Shirley .. I read the article.  Having the U.S. rating drop is a scary thing.

Can someone explain to me what it means when it says, "the greenback gained against commodity-linked currencies..."  What is a commodity linked currency?

S&P liked the plan that Obama agreed with back in April.  I think it had over $4 trillion in cuts.

Thanks Blue .. so it means the country's currency is based on their commodity exports as opposed to the U.S. dollar.  So if the export of their commodities fluctuate, so would the value of their dollar.  Is that how it works in Canada? 

I was just curious because the article Shirley posted said the dollar gained against the commodity backed currencies (Canada, New Zealand, etc.)
