Alpal .. the cantaloupe sounds good right now. I'm hungry and it's so freakin' hot out.
Tim called and he won't be home this weekend. He's on his way from SC to Texas. Will have to do my best to stay out of trouble this weekend. ha!
Bren
EDITED: Just checked .. our heat index is up to 109. arghh.
-
You know, you can cut up and freeze the cantalopes and then swirl them in a blender for a cantalope smoothy. . . .might help with the heat!!!!!!!
-
Yikes, Bren!
-
Think it was E, writing about frozen bananas? Technical question: do you freeze them peeled or unpeeled. I seem to remember freezing bananas peeled, and they still got "riper" in the freezer. Which is not a separate freezer, just part of the refridgerator - so maybe not super cold...
I remember the dip in chocolate part

-
Very well put enjoyful - people are definitely oversimplifying the issue of increased spending. I don't have any pithy comments about cantaloupe - sorry. And, I have no idea what I am having for dinner -
And, libertard bothered me a whole lot more than conservatard come to think about it. -
Just got back from renting a few movies from the Red Box. Most definitely planning to stay in out of the heat.
Ellie .. I agree with you .. the issue is oversimplified and complex. I don't like being called a 'tard' anything.
3Mon .. that smoothie would go great right about now!
hugs,
Bren
-
Just don't call me "tard"y for dinner =;0)
-
I agree with all of you don't like things being oversimplified. It's like they don't think we the people can understand whats going on.
So peel the bananas hillck. That must be why mine always go bad.
Dinner is cornbeef with cabbage. Been cooking all day in the crock pot. Too hot to use the oven.
-
Sewingnut .. you crack me up!
Kira .. dinner sounds good .. wish you lived closer! Do you live near Barbara? I think the FL gals are getting together soon. She's going to be my roommate when we go to NOTL next month!
Bren
-
I wonder if this is how they work out money problems on the Hill?
-
BinVa, Barbra is about 2 hours away. I am so looking forward to our get together . It is soon, it's on the6th of August. I wish I could come to NOTL it sounds like so much fun.
-
Bananas: peel, then slice lengthwise. Spread peanut butter on one half. Put them back together again, wrap in foil, and freeze. Amazing! You could always dip it in chocolate after it's frozen. :-)
-
Blue .. that Archie Bunker was so damn funny!
Kira .. the FL get together sounds like it will be fun. I wish I was only two hours from all my buds.
Bren
-
enjoyful, The bananas sound yummy. What a great dessert dipped in a little dark chocolate.
-
blue, I have to give it to ya. That was really funny and seems to be what's going on.
I just wanted to post this short "snippet". It won't cause your eyes to glaze over. It really isn't so simple. I realize I'm not supposed to be posting here.

Dollar tanks vs Swiss franc, yen on economic fears
The dollar is looking less and less attractive from a growth, fiscal and monetary perspective," said Kathy Lien. director of currency research at GFT Forex in New York."The recovery has lost momentum, the U.S. is up to its neck in debt and the Federal Reserve is considering more stimulus."
Analysts have said that even if a last-minute deal to lift the debt limit is struck before the August 2 deadline, a rating downgrade appears likely without a comprehensive plan to cut the deficit. A cut would raise U.S. borrowing costs, hurting an already weak economy, rattle investors and likely hurt the dollar. -
I know Shirley and it will have worldwide implications.
-
Shirley .. I read the article. Having the U.S. rating drop is a scary thing.
I copied the first para of the article:
Debt worries on both sides of the Atlantic prompted investors to seek refuge in the franc and yen, traditional safe havens. However, the greenback gained against commodity-linked currencies that typically struggle when there is heightened risk aversion, such as the Australian, Canadian and New Zealand dollars.
Can someone explain to me what it means when it says, "the greenback gained against commodity-linked currencies..." What is a commodity linked currency?
Bren
-
We could *maybe* stave a drop of our rating IF the bozos would really cut some spending, like defense for example. I mean, heck, Obama wants the troops home anyway. But the new deals will be like the old deals, smoke and mirrors. I am very disillusioned with the whole bunch, Dems and Reps alike. Maybe I should start an anarchy party. Just sayin...
-
How about the Sensible Party?
If the US ends up having to pay more interest on debt because of all this, I'm going to send the Tea Partiers a bill for the share of my taxes that go toward that interest.
-
E .. can you tell me what commodity linked currency means?
Thanks
-
Barbara,
I think one version of a Dem bill cut $xxx from DOD and the Repubs rejected i t as being too big a cut.
I'm tired. I'm going home and open up the BCO B&G and work on my knitting. What are folks drinking??
-
No idea, Bren. I've not even heard the term before.
-
S&P liked the plan that Obama agreed with back in April. I think it had over $4 trillion in cuts.
-
Yeah but he did not have one Democrat vote for it. Go figure.
-
Here you go Bren.
-
I thought the commission's report never went to Congress, Barb?
-
Thanks Blue .. so it means the country's currency is based on their commodity exports as opposed to the U.S. dollar. So if the export of their commodities fluctuate, so would the value of their dollar. Is that how it works in Canada?
I was just curious because the article Shirley posted said the dollar gained against the commodity backed currencies (Canada, New Zealand, etc.)

It is pretty sad what is happening in the US right now. I think everyone has to work together. IMHO they only way the US can get its debt down is by cutting spending and closing certain tax loopholes. I don't know if this will happen.
OTH, I am going to NY next week, and the Canadian $$ is stronger than the US $$. That means some good shopping for me! (ducking to make sure nothing hits me!)
-
Bren, makes sense, although I'm not a financial wizard. I do know that the Cdn.$ is at 1.05 U.S. last time I looked.
