    I ate way too much over the holiday and now I am at 144.  Darn.

    Ruth, I am going to do South Beach also.  I love South Beach recipes.

    Okay, so I have decided to get serious about this weight loss.  It's finally trying to be summer here though it's not quite there.  I started a food & fitness journal on line that tracks my daily food & calories vs my burning it off.  It's really forcing me to see why I haven't been doing so well--It's not that I eat so much, as I average about 2000 calories a day without being bad the problem is I wasn't expending enough energy working out, so even though I hurt, I am really upping the ante by adding walking back into the mix.  Yeah, I am going to hurt later but I am tired of being out of shape and I just have to get down to 150.  That's the goal and I am sticking to it.  I had no idea theat you have to expend more working out then you eat-this isn't easy to do!

    So, yesterday I ate my 2000 limit and I did my floor excercises and I walked fast for an hour plus did a short walk after dinner.  Today I walked over 5 miles and my feet hurt but I did that and my floor excercises.  We shall see how well this works during the week.

    MBJ- yep, there's a direct relationship between calories and energy expenditure. When I was at my lightest (122) I was very in tune with what went in vs. what I expended. I had great success with that approach, and still maintain that awareness today.

    I don't worry too much about my weight because I know how much my activity reflects it. When I spend a few days being a couch potato I go up; when I go into high gear with horses, yard, boat, whatever.... I lose weight. Problem is, that unlike my younger years (and the lingering effects of BC) I need more recovery time between energy spurts (hence those couch potato days).

    Heidi:  I hear you on the recovery time.  I blame BC because before I got sick you couldn't slow me down.  Never had to diet before, either.  I have been thin almost my entire life so this is news to me!  I used to be so thin that people thought I didn't eat and I was a pig!

    I have logged on to one of those fitness tracker sites, too.  I find it helps me to be accountable with what I eat.  Exercising has always been a part of my life and my mental/emotional health depends on it.  Really hoping for good news for the Monday morning weigh in!

    Just checking in still at 133.  Really struggling with the heat, hard to get motivated to exercise when it is so hot.

    Can I join? I would like to lose 10 pounds before I start abraxane in just over 3 weeks. So basically 3 pounds a week. I just finished 6 treatments of ac. I am worried about gaining weight on abraxane, I need to lose a total of about 60 more pounds to be where I should be. So, currently I weigh...drum roll please....210! Can't believe I just admitted that in public cyberspace! I have been having a hard time exercising due to chemo fatigue, hope it is not so bad on abraxane/carbo. I don't start the carbo for few weeks after I start abraxane.

    Obesity, Estrogen Status Influence Breast Cancer Outcomes

    BOSTON (EGMN ) - Obesity increases the odds of a woman with breast cancer dying from her disease, according to a retrospective data analysis.Further, this link between obesity and breast cancer death is strongest among those obese women who have estrogen receptor (ER) positive cancer, according to the analysis of data on nearly 4,000 participants in the California Teachers Study."This is another reason why the public should be aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy body weight, particularly how it pertains to cancer and especially breast cancer," according to Christina M. Dieli-Conwright Ph.D., an assistant research professor at City of Hope National Medical Center, Duarte, Calif. She presented the findings at the annual meeting of The Endocrine Society.The study looked at a cohort of women who had taken a self-administered baseline questionnaire in 1995-1996 and who were diagnosed with their first primary invasive breast cancer between 1995 and 2006. Of the 3,995 women studied through 2007, 262 died of breast cancer and 321 died of nonbreast cancer causes.There was a significant association between breast cancer mortality and body mass index (BMI) (P = .03). Women who were obese (defined as BMI greater than or equal to 30 kg/m²) had a 69% increased risk of dying of their breast cancer than women with a BMI less than 25. A similar increased risk in breast cancer mortality was seen in women who were overweight at age 18 (defined as BMI 25-29) compared to those with BMI less than 25. No significant associations were noted between weight and deaths due to nonbreast cancer causes or deaths due to all causes.When the data were stratified according to estrogen receptor status, weight and breast cancer mortality were significantly related among women who were ER positive (P = 0.04), but not for those who were ER negative (P = .41). Obese women who were ER positive had a 64% increased risk of death due to breast cancer compared to those who had BMI less than 25. No significant associations were seen between weight and death due to all causes according to ER receptor status. Interestingly, there was more than a threefold increase in death from breast cancer in women who were ER negative if they were overweight at age 18 years.Obesity at baseline almost doubled the breast cancer mortality risk (relative risk 1.91, 95% confidence interval 1.27-2.87) in women diagnosed with regional or distant disease, while there was no such association in obese women with localized disease. Higher risk of death from breast cancer and from all causes were also documented for women who had been overweight at age 18 for both localized and regional/distant disease.Dr. Dieli-Conwright said that the findings add to a growing body of evidence linking obesity with the risk of developing breast cancer and with the risk of dying from it.Dr. Dieli-Conwright reported having no conflicts of interest.

    Holding at 167.  Over did it with beer and pizza yesterday.  Don't regret it either!

    OK I need to join too I am scared to step on the scale though :( last I checked I was up 22lbs from all this crap. What day do you guys weigh in fill me in and I will get on that dreaded scale.

    Heidi - you can remove me because I don't post on here regularly.  I do, however, read it regularly and have been very diligent with my step counter all year. I started out doing min. 10,000 steps per day and now am doing avg. 15,000 per day. I've also been going to the gym three times a week doing circuit machines since end of May and continue to eat healthy.  My clothes are fitting better and I can see more definition.  I plan to continue this way whether I'm a part of this thread or not. Good luck to everyone...you can do it!!

    Heidi, are you trying to scare me into losing weight with posting that article?  :) I wish it would work! I am aware that being obese is not good for cancer prognosis, although it did say if you were obese at 18 for triple negative, which I wasn't, is bad. It scares me that I am so overweight, but for some reason I can not get it together and lose weight, it has been a struggle for a while. Maybe I don't belong on this thread because I am so overweight and not only ten pounds overweight?

    Hey bak...losing weight on chemo is so very hard to do..don't beat yourself up over it ok?  You are dealing with chemo and the se's..losing weight may not be something that is a priority.

    You probably could try to watch what you eat..try to walk when you feel like it..and then maybe once chemo is over you can try a little harder.

    I'm two years out from chemo (next month)...and it has taken me that long to get back to at least a weight that looks good on me...maybe others don't take as long but it did me.

    Don't know how old you are but going through chemopause doesn't help with the weight either.

    Oh..I'm at 137.8...does that count?

    I know what that article said but I think alot of us Tn's weren't over weight at all....

    bak9- I wasn't trying to scare anyone. I certainly don't want you, or anyone else, to feel like you do not belong. I just post what I feel might be of interest to women in here. I don't even read all of the articles, as most of them I have seen before. Here is what I took from the most recent:

    Sugar, that sounds awesome. I once counted my 3-mile a day walk/run, and it came in around 6.500 steps so you are more than doubling that!

    Heidi, I know you were posting for information purposes and I do thank you for that as it is interesting! I have been very sensitive lately and need to knock it off! Maybe it is because I am on chemo break and have a pet/ct coming up this friday. Diet tomorrow for the pet scan is high fat,  protein no sugar! So, I guess eggs for breakfast, cheese for lunch, oh, I can have broccoli, so broccoli for dinner. I don't really like any meat. Maybe some nuts as snacks. Any other suggestions other than meat? Oh, I do like fish, so maybe fish for dinner along with the broccoli!

    Oh, I did finish a 5k walk on Sunday. I was planning on taking a short cut, but did not give in to it!

    Oh, I am 44, had first breast cancer diagnoses at age 36, triple negative stage 2b and found out this time I am brca 1 positive, as my signature shows.

    (I did change my username for privacy and security issues, I hope not to confuse anybody!)

    Think I'm finally ready to join... better late than never!



    I need/want to lose about 10 more pounds, although my goal is really more to stick to my low-fat diet. I also need to get better with my exercise! I hope that being accountable every week will help. Right now, I will shoot for 30 minutes of aerobic activity 5 days per week, and 2 days of light weights.



    Current weight is 125, with BMI of 24. I am short, 5' 2", and small framed, so 10 more pounds isn't too much. Heck, I lost 4 pounds in one fell swoop with my BMX, lol.

    bak94- thanks for the mention of the name change. That must have been you I switched on the list. Thought I was losing my mind! Usually I memorize the weights, etc. but sometimes I have to write everything down first so I don't make a mistake. Don't want anyone gaining weight due to a typing error!

    I apologize in advance if anyone comes on here and sees they've been deleted. I went back as far as May checking the "regulars", so if you still want to be in here just post your info again.

    Last night we went out for All You Can Eat snow crab legs with my son & hubby. Darn they were good, but I woke up every hour needing to drink. Today, after my Pond Study nature class I totally dozed out at the pool. Right now I should be mowing the lawn but my OCN (occipital nerve block) for migraines hasn't kicked in yet, so I've got a slight headache (really didn't want to mow the lawn anyway).

    Just back from a 2 week trip to England (think puddings, pies and chips) and will weigh myself on Monday to see what the damage is. (don't want to know today :))

    Well, ladies... I've been offline for a while... butttt I'm pregnant, soooo I won't be losing weight anytime soon! The opposite, I'm afraid. Lol. Still started at my old standby of 152 though... so I guess that's good! Tongue out

    Thanks, girls. My hubby and I just started "trying"... our first freaking shot. And here I was all sorts of nervous it would never happen. Hah! I waited 3 months after reconstruction in hopes that everything would be healed and settled enough by then so I didn't TOTALLY screw up my PS's work. I'm just about 6 weeks (estimated due date is 3/27/12), so it's superrrrr early and since I can't tell like anyone... I'm happy to be able to tell you guys!! I'm going to post a pic on the pic forum now because I already see some changes going on in the boob arena. Nothing crazy, but my native side is definitely getting bigger. I'm feeling good! Just very tiredddd mostly, and my augmented boob and nipple are super sore and sensitive now. Thanks for the congrats!! I'm super excited. Laughing
