Hope you have a wonderful birthday, Athena! Oh, to be 44!!!!!!
-
Thank you all for the wonderful wishes. I love the human warmth of this thread. Yum - let's cut this cake now!
Jancie, not, it's not a tradition at all. Just my family making me look under my bed - probably to get me to clear the dust out - lol!
So for my birthday, it gets to be 10 degrees cooler today - about 105 as heat index. I am cooling off and working.
Blue, enjoy you fishing trip.
Lindasa - I live in Georgetown. Who knoew that leafy streets could harbor so much dust.... -
Amazingly, the Canada air blast made it here annd the humdidity dropped about 20 points. Nice!
-
I'ts cooled off here too, the heat index is only 104, down from 118 yesterday. I'm hoping for rain to green things up again.
Athena .. hope you are enjoying your day. Does your family live close to you?
Ann .. the cake looks really good!
Barbara .. wish we could drop the humidity by 20 points too! Enjoy your day in the nice weather.
I'm working on a migraine for some reason .. going to take a pain pill and a nap.
hugs,
Bren

Well, we're down to about 82F with a light wind from the west, so it's quite comfy. It did rain last night, and with luck it rained enough to keep the grass from turning any browner!
Bren, So sorry about the migraine. Never had one, but I understand how truly painful they can be. Hope you wake up refreshed and pain-free, hon.
-
Bren, I feel your pain (I suffer, too). Take it easy in a cool, dark room.
-
Bren - hope you get to feeling better. Never had migraines myself but have heard they are really painful.
Yesterday it was 104 at the barn. Hopefully today it will stay in the 90's.
-
Thanks gals .. you're all so sweet to me!
Can somebody repost the link to the review site? I went back over 10 pages and couldn't find it.
thanks,
Bren
-
can't find my cake.. here are some cookies for you Athena.

-
I found it ... so you don't have to look.
Apple .. the cookies look delicious! I especially love snowballs in powered sugar!

We just got a little rain ... hoping that will mean some cool down too. Still trying to figure out how Florida got a cooler air mass from Canada quicker than Indiana did!
I think we need to rename our mods here ... how about Hope, Patience and Thor's Hammer

And that is not any kind of insult to anybody ... I think they are doing remarkably well with all that they have to deal with.
Hope that migraines go away, fish are caught, birthdays are enjoyed and that everybody has a wonderful Sunday!
-
Thanks Rabbit .. I'm feeling better. Must be the pain pill and pushing liquids! I hope Blue's having fun fishing and Athena is having a fun birthday.
Tim is at the store getting some nice pork ribs for dinner. I'm so lucky he does the cooking when he's home. We'll have a nice salad with the ribs and I'll make him a cake for dessert.
hugs all,
Bren

Sorry, Bren.... migraines suck, big time. I used to have them in my late teens and early 20's, but somehow as the pressure in my life increased and the tension tightened, the migraines went away. Go figure.
OTOH, I started getting sinus headaches shortly after moving to the Deep South from the vast frozen Northland. Those sinus headaches reminded me a lot of my migraines -- one-sided, throbbing, with sensitivity to light and sound and odors. The good news is that I seem to be able to get rid of the sinus headaches with a couple of ibuprofen and a half hour nap if I catch 'em early. Not so with the migraines...

We worked outside in the hot sun all day yesterday, trying to get our boat ready to travel to the repair yard (if insurance approves the repair estimate we haven't received yet from the owner of the repair yard, who never calls us back). Mr. otter 'bout killed himself from the heat. He was desperate to get the work done that day, and he worked too long without taking water breaks or resting in the shade. I think he's okay today, but he is grumpy again.

(I just noticed I've closed two paragraphs in a row with frowny faces. Not a good sign.)
Who buys rainbow trout? I thought they came from clear, cool, mountain streams. We are going to try to get to Montana this summer, before it turns to winter (assuming we get all that stuff in Paragraph #3 figured out). That is Mr. otter's favorite summer pasttime: going somewhere cool where there are streams that contain trout willing to bite wads of fuzzy stuff made to look like bugs. I just sit around and enjoy the scenery. Last time we were there, I discovered a gift shop in Ennis, MT, called "Otter Banks." I spent a lot of time there, for obvious reasons.

[ETA: Sheesh. There were two things I wanted to say in my post: 1) I wanted to empathize with Bren's migraine headache, and 2) I wanted to wish Athena a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!]
-
Yummmm ...
Bren, glad your migraine is gone. -
Thanks Athena and Otter! It's on the fringe .. hiding behind my pain pill! ha!
Athena ... I hope the Leo lioness is enjoying her day!

Is there any of that birthday cake left? I was messing around elsewhere and forgot to take a piece with me.

Athena~~~ I hope you are having a wonderful Birthday filled with beautiful memories of love and laughter!!
-
Happy Birthday Athena.
We had a great day today. My DD took lots of pics and hopefully she will send me some. They caught 3 fish, one was 5 lbs. I just enjoyed the scenery, the food, my family and the pooches. Perfect day! Even the weather co-operated.
-
I am so glad you had a great time fishing, Blue. I love fishing but it is too hot now unless I go before dawn. The fish get hot, too, and won't bite. My gal pal artist friend is taking me out one day at dawn this week. I'll let you know if we get anything (other than tipsy on mimosas.)
-
Wow, the best part of my birthday was seeing these wonderful messages from everyone - thank you all. Not easy for this privacy freak to venture from her den and reveal something as banal as a birthday...
Blue, so glad you had a lovely day with family. Shows what a special person you are that you have people around you who love you. As for fishing? I am the worst fishing companion there is. I always feel sorry for the fish. My father was the only person I ever went fishing with. The man scored zero catches every time he was with me because I would make him return the prey.(I prefer zebra and buffalo - I will leave the water prey to otter).
-
Athena - hope you had the best day!!! I'm glad you shared your birthday with us.

Athena .. I'm glad you shared your birthday with us!

Happy Birthday Athena!
-
Late to the party, but wishing you a happy birthday (and a happy year!) nonetheless.

and even later - glad to hear your birthday started well, Athena, and hope it begins an excellent year.
-
Happy Birthday!!!!! Athena. Bren, feeling those migraines, it helped a little bit when I would bang my head against the wall, really the wall! However I was in my teens and 20's didn't do it in my 30's. Hope you feel better real soon. Blue, you ate the trout didn't you? Bren, your picture is really cute. I haven't been on here so just saw it. Everyone have a terrific week. kad2kar
-
Also late to the party, but hope you had a very Happy Birthday, Athena! You are just a youngster compared to this old broad!
This year they stocked our local park's fishing pond with trout. They were ok, but nothing in comparison with the fish I caught in our cold Vermont stream when I lived there. Hoping someday to take Ed there to fish.
Finally, some rain and a bit of cooling tonight. Hope it continues.
-
As a lazy weekend comes to a close, I think we survived without drive bys. I don't want to jinx things, but considering Sue is probably having afternoon tea about now, I think we're safe.
Stopping by the BCOB&G for a nightcap. Wishing everyone a great week ahead.
-
It was just after lunch then - looks like you're safe. I've been quiet today because I actually have some programming to do but I can't test it until tomorrow. Hope it works.
Sue
