Maybe Mary wants to do a house swap with the rest of you!!!! she can go to one of your houses and enjoy the sun and you guys can come out here and enjoy the not-sun!!!!

Should the sun come out, I will make everyone gin bubbles!  And if the sun doesn't come out, I can make hot cider!

3M -- Giffords?  Did kids hang out at Giffords?  A bit of trivia pre-my arrival here -- the Joe's Pizza & Pasta place on Lee Highway (Up from where the A&P used to be at Harrison) used to be a Giffords Ice Cream place.  By the time I got here, there was one at Bailey's Crossroads on Columbia Pike.  FROZEN DAIRY BAR!!! Remember Frozen Dairy Bar??  And there used to be a HoJo's in Foggy Bottom, across from the Watergate.

Ah, nostalgia.  Where I grew up in the midwest, we used to hang out at Wendy's.  Or the Flying Pizza.  Or a park to "chat."

Good afternoon ladies.  I think I got too much sun yesterday too.  Nursing a headache today, but am reading.  Speaking of reading, I notice I've been mentioned elsewhere, by name.  I invite anyone to read my posting history.  Hate is such a dreadful "disease".

    Where was that, Blue?

I know that a group of women don't like you for some reason but it baffles me.  You're nothing but kind, helpful, and funny.  You do stand up for yourself and correct falsehoods when needed, though.  Is that what they don't like?

Oh, Blue - I really have stopped going to "those" theads - it is JUST TO STIR UP TROUBLE.  Plz don't let it flutter you - specially with a headache.. my adivice: Sic Virgil on'emSealed

Giffords - oh those days.  I'd just come back from London, where "real" ice cream was just appearing.  HOW can a society which created Clotted Cream, oh, my, drooling beginning, use LARD in the ice cream.  Anyhow - Giffords - ah, yes, many, many a visit.  Seems  Ye Olde Bode could handle a lot more pre chemotherapy, and Arimidex.  Now if I think of ice cream, really, I gain weight.

    Ok.  I'm a slouch too.

    Oh Giffords!

HappyLibby I hung out at that very Giffords!  We had 7 kids in the family but my parents always found enough for us to go to Giffords every weekend.

Another place I miss is Farrells?  I tell my kids about the HUGE ice creams that me and eight of my friends would order and all share.  Those were the days...

LOL!  Virgil had a great time yesterday.  We walked through a forest and there were lots of obstacles on the ground.  I didn't freeze once.  I was totally amazed.

E, I don't know what I did, I guess it's because I started this thread and it has been successful?

CS.....No not that site, another one.  I try not to read THAT site.

Walking where there are obstacles - and not freezing - MAGIC!!!!  How wonderful!  I don't have your issue, and I am capable of triping over a dead fly!  So good to hear you had a nice outing - really DOES life one's spirits!

Hi Blue, concurr as to hate.  Would add intolarance to the list.  Hate and intolarance combined lead to nothing but pain and sorry.  As anyone in Norway will tell you. Cry  I am combating both my liberal application of the ignore button.

Now about those gin bubbles  Last week when we took monsters to camp we ended up doing a visit to a distillery where we tried some different versions of gin.  Back in the days when I was riffling though the seat cushions for gas change, I was NOT a gin fan---thought it tasted like chewing a tree branch.  So I never touched the stuff.  But hey, its a new world and it seems there are more flavors of gin than I never knew.  We were tasting small batch stuff that, well dare I say it, it was YUMMY! In fact it was sooo very tasty I thought that the addition of tonic would diminish the gin.  And yet, a full glass of icy cold gin to sip on is probably NOT the best idea, at least not if you actually intend to cook dinner.

VOILA!!! the birth of the gin bubbles!!!

Shot or shot and a half of good small batch, or craft, gin (we are not talking tangeray or even bombay here.  More like 12 Bridges (Portland), Dry Fly (Spokane), etc-)--in a glass with ice.  Top with sparkling water.  enjoy!

Yup.  Sounds like you've detailed the offenses for which B is "guilty" - ain't it a kick???  But don't forget  warmly welcoming new people, who have been reading and enjoying the jokes ( probably even GOT the Lightbulb Fly one without explanation) and agreeing to respect each other.  Whew, that sounds like quite a list of "offenses." (snark)  Ok now I'm Sealed

Ang, I remember Farrells!  And Swensen's!  Wow, there were a lot of ice cream shops then ... now there seems to only be Baskin Robbins.  Not that I object to ice cream in any form, but ... the older ones were better.  And I miss Frozen Dairy Bar terribly.  I know that there is a storefont with the name and the old machines in that shopping center on 50 by Annandale Road, but ... it's not that old ratty stucco building that you walked up to and then sat in (or on) your car in the gravel parking lot to eat your ice cream.  A couple years before it closed, some guy who was a lawyer as his day job used to come and DJ oldies in the parking lot.  What fun!

I'm up for a house swap!

Still waiting to find out what "gin bubbles" are.......

Blue-other thread or other site? I've stopped going to the other site entirely. They are vicious. I know in the past you have been a target there. Let them be.

So, so happy to know you had a good day yesterday, Blue!

I just picked another quart of raspberries  (this has been an exceptional year for my favourite fruit) and will have some later tonight over a wee scoop of French Vanilla ice cream.  And, I want you to know that each raspberry I picked actually went into the basket, and did not sidetracked... Gold star for me!!!

We have Dairy Queen and Baskin Robbins here too.  My favourite through is an Italian place called La Paloma.  They must have 100 flavours of gelato.  We go there sometimes on a Sunday afternoon.

I have this thing about DQ's soft ice cream -- I hate it!  Give me a great gelato or any Haagen Daz and I'm a happy camper!  OTOH, DH cannot resist passing a soft ice cream truck and buying a cone with chocolate coating.  I keep telling him it's not real chocolate.  His reply "So?"

I'm not really a sweets person, but I do enjoy a DQ soft serve cone now and again.

I'm a sucker for Tim's Cascade potato chips. I'm a salty, greasy type of girl.

Blue .. glad to hear you had a fun day yesterday ... and you were walking through the woods with no trouble!  On the other hand, there is no way I will walk through my woods ... too many snakes.  I do have some paths I made that are safe though.

Some ice cream would be good right now!

I used to get my Gifford's fix at the Brookville Market in Chevy Chase. And one of my preferred hangouts was the Club LT on Wisconsin Ave in Georgetown.

Ben and Jerry were in my sister's class at UVM.  When I went several years later, their first store had just opened in an old gas station in Burlington.  It was amazing!

No Ben & Jerry's here except at Walmart, so my grandson and I go to Coldstone.  Might have to try the chocolate dipped bananas myself. Sounds yummy.

I haven't had frozen red grapes in ages!  They're like little frozen popsicles.  Yumm!

Big storm is moving in here, the sky is going dark and the wind is coming up.  Yahoo .. we need the rain!  Is it raining in VA north of me? Happy, Ang, Enjoyful?

Yes, it has been raining along the Potomac in Rosslyn for a couple of hours off and on. Some kind of wimpy thunder now and again.  Then some weird patch of sun breaks out (like now) and then the dark gray clouds roll in again.  Not really a proper storm, and I'm afraid it might be tropical when I leave this evening.
