Complementary and Integrative Approach to Healing

One thing I have learned is that everyone has something to teach me. I love that. I am all about learning what others have found that works for them. There is so much to learn and sort through, and share. I have been on this learning journey for 2 1/2 years now and I still feel like I am just getting started in the knowledge department.

Any one interested in a chocolate truffle recipe that is guilt free, sugar free and 100% good for you? Oh did I mention it was easy too?
-
Hi Merilee,
Never heard that about onions - I wonder why the enzyme wouldn't be release during digestion anyway? My best food goody find lately is quinoa! I never had it before BC, but now I can't get enough of it!
Here's what wikipedia says about it: CLICK HERE
"Quinoa was of great nutritional importance in pre-Columbian Andean civilizations, secondary only to the potato, and was followed in importance by maize. In contemporary times, this crop has become highly appreciated for its nutritional value, as its protein content is very high (12%-18%). Unlike wheat or rice (which are low in lysine), and like oats, quinoa contains a balanced set of essential amino acids for humans, making it a complete protein source, unusual among plant foods.[12] It is a good source of dietary fiber and phosphorus and is high in magnesium and iron. Quinoa is gluten-free and considered easy to digest. Because of all these characteristics, quinoa is being considered a possible crop in NASA's Controlled Ecological Life Support System for long-duration manned spaceflights."
ETA - ummm... the chocolate truffle recipe? YESSSSS!!! I mean, yes please!
-
Prunes work wonders for me, love the corynth raisins too !!
-
I love Quinoa espessially in the winter time as a hot cereal.
Truffles: I use organic stuff
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/2 almond butter
1/4 (or less) Agave
Stir, make into ballswith oiled hands. chill in the frig on a plate oiled with something good for you. I use coconut oil.
You can add anything to this basic recipe, I like to flatten them with an almond or other nut. I have also used coconut. Enjoy...I'm thinking raisins would be good too.

I was told on another thread that wikipedia is NOT a good source
-
Luan, where do you go when looking up stuff ?
-
you could start your own forum for free patzeerainbow.
-
Rainbow pony
I am very interested to learn what you have learned about food and nutrition so far.
-
Merilee, i google the word which will lead you into unexpected places, i did like wikipedia
Rainbow pony has bags full of goodies (info)
-
I see that Rainbow pony's focus has been on nutrition, which is also of great interest to me. I went to a nutritionist early on but she really did not know as much as I did. Seemed her focus was on diabetics which does have some things in common such as keeping our glycemic index in check. I have actually learned way more from reading and from other ladies on here.
-
Luan, that is what I do too. I have found Wikipedia pretty good but not always up to date. I usually try the internet first then I try to see what research is out there on the topic. Meaning Journal publications.
-
Quinoa is delicious. It's all the rage too, and it's helping the local economy in Bolivia.
(Mega bloody groan).
-
LoL !! @ Athena
Merilee, I know, i really impressed one of the doctors i saw on Tuesday -
Peggy and Athena -
Last night I made it to bed at 11:50 (instead of usual 1 am). Thanks for the inspiration. Hopefully I'll keep it up.
-
Good for you, Orange.
Getting my sleeping schedule on track was so, so difficult. I am a night owl by definition, Maybe it will help to read as many studies as you can about the BC-melatonin association - lol!
-
Merilee, I've also noticed that some integrative practitioners are more educated than others.
I was taught to check out most of my information on Pubmed, not Wikipedia. There are many studies there on treatments most people in the conventional world claim are "unstudied."
-
Britchick claims to be a god and the rest are fools, quelles idees de grandeur !
-
Athena - probably a good idea - as long as I don't do my researching and reading at 2 am.
-
Molly, hi !! have not seen you in ages !
-
Hi Luan,
What did I miss?
What did your new practitioner suggest? Any new tips?
-
Molly, am having to go the conventional way for now
( because of severe issues with Tamox, also experiencing extremely worrying decline in cognitive function due most likely to TAC. Very vicious cycle. So looking more than ever for natural secrets as the problems with interactions become more complex
Real glad to see you, hugz -
Yay Orange!!! I was inspired by our talk and last night I read in bed (and fell asleep a little earlier than usual). BTW, someone posted here awhile ago that sitting in front of a computer at night can throw off your...something (melatonin level?). So I'm trying to reduce my computer usage at night. Speaking of which...I'm logging off now to go read and rest! Happy sleep-gym!

Molly, any info about PTSD on Natural girls ? still have to read the more than 500 pages...
-
Luan - I feel for you re: the Tamoxifen. I had very bad side effects and whenever I had my period while on Tamox. I had memory problems and difficulty concentrating (by far no my worst side effects, though). Estrogen rationing on top of possible chemobrain can't be anything but a nightmare. Sorry you are going through this.
-
Good idea. I'm outa here too.
-
Yes. Any bright screen = very bad. Good luck!
-
My onco is adamant about Tamox, he won,'t even lower me to 10 mg
-
Luan,
If you want to look up PTSD on Natural Girls, you can
1. click on SEARCH.
2. Type in PTSD.
3. Then from the drop down menu, indicate you want to search Alternative, Complementary and Holistic forum. That way it will save you many hours of reading.
If you're in one of the 15 legal medical marijuana states, you might research that. There was a show on NPR about it. Google PTSD and marijuana. Also try Pubmed.com and enter PTSD + cannabis.
You are so strong! You will find peace whatever you choose. PM me if I can help
-
Thank you so much sweetie, have not mastered the search function yet, great help !
I, once and for all, wanted the flax.= phytoestrogen issue cleared up and the hospital onco-pharmacist confirmed to err on the side of caution for us er+ girls
