Hi Ladies, I start on 7/7/11 4 round of TC. Tomorrow is my Chemo Teach Class. ooh goody, i get to hear about all the bad and what I can and can not do. I'm taking this all one day at a time. Hello to you all and I look forward to sharing with you all.
-
Had chemo class today...... was fairly interesting, not as scary a I thought, start 7/14........ Feel good as my OCNP worked at both Dana Farber and MSLK in NY for 15 years. She's got it down! She made me feel better, just want to start and get it over with!

Today is day two for me. I actually started in June but everyone on that board started in early June. Today has not been bad. I am very forgetful today and actually walked into the bathroom looking for a dvd and realized I was not in my room, lol. Some things taste funny but something taste fine. I have been using plastic forks and it seems to work some. I did all of the laundry and put everything up and cleaned my room and the boys' rooms, with their help ofcourse. I started feeling tired and sick around 3. I took one nausea med about 4 when I realized I wasnt going to kick it alone. Right now I am a little tired and achy all over. If this is the worst I will be okay. BTW, TMI here but I was so happy to poop today because I was so scared of constipation. I had bad constipation after my surgery even with colace, phillips, milk of magnesia, and mcdonalds milk shake. Didnt want to go there again. So we will see what tomorrow has in store. Hope everyone has a good night!

Jamie - Thanks for the update, Take it easy, try and relax:-) if you have pple that offer to help, let them (thats what I have been told to do when i start chemo:-) Hugs:-)
-
Well done Shiny!
-
Jamie take care. Rest well. Pray the SEs are just that.
-
So far so good. Not too bad on the SE front. Teensy bit of nausea that was easily thwarted. A bit nervous about being triple positive, esp HER 2+. I need more info on that. Not so much the SEs, but what the future holds.
-
Day 3. Whoo. This mornng was rough. I was up around 5. My legs and hips were really achy. I have a rash on my stomach that is a little itchy and a horrible headache. The nurse called to check on me and told me that it was okay for me to take aleave. She told me to do the benedryl and lotion on my rash unless it turns really read and scary. They think I have some of the skin issues early because I have the Irish skin. After taking the aleave and one nausea med I am doing good. I am still disoriented a bit. Not to the point I feel crazy but to the point I wouldnt even think about driving. Nurse called it "the chemo fog". So far everything has been bareable.
Glad you are doing okay on the SE front Shinypop. I have found that so far everything is working out with a little help.
thanks for the encouragement everyone! Hope everyone is feeling good today!

hi ladies today i had my app with my onco and I have to say that Im lucky cause he is a really nice guy, you can tell....I think is the first app that i didnt cry and l live me with a positive attitude, love it!!. So I will start my chemo next Tuesday July 6 with TCHx6 evry 3 weeks and Herceptin for a year..very anxious about everything but very optimistic too.
good luck to all of us!!
-
good morning ladies! Jamie you are so brave, pray the SEs go away fast. Shiny so happy you are doing fine. Keep that up. Paualmati- all the best and so glad you found a good onco. I am seeing my onco today. Appointment at 11 am but he is always so busy I have to wait up to 2 hours for my turn. I am abit skeptical of him now that he cleared me in March 2011. However due to insurance reasons, it is easier to stick with him and he is one of the top oncos here.
-
Jamie - Hope the SEs get better. Thanks for update Jamie & Shinypop, very helpful for us who are starting soo. I forgot to ask and not sure if you mentioned, are you guys on TC? my dose is 6 cycles of TC then rads then tamoxifen.
Frances - All the Best with your appt:-)
Hugs to you all wonderful ladies.
Sophie.
-
hi all, just back from onco. triple -ve. setting in the port on 8 jul as he wants breast surgeon to give the greenlight on my recovery from surgery first. Seeing Breast surgeon on 5 Jul, dentist on 6 July. TC every 2 weeks, 6 cycles staring 11 July. Step by step moment by moment
-
All of you are so courageous! I will be meeting with my medical oncologist on the 6th to find out whether I will be doing the chemo and what course. Will let you all know. . . .
-
Hi Phillybird sorry to have you join us but welcome!
-
Hi. I am on T/C every 3 weeks for 4 treatments. I started June 28th. Everything has been okay so far. Just takes a little adjustment figure it all out.
-
I'm on AC and neulasta. Since I'm triple pos I will be doing Taxol and Herceptin after this. And then radiation.
Today was rough. I had an appt with the PS to check out my deflating foob (TE) and the neulasta shot. Not much we can do about the deflater, just wait until after everything and get new foobs. Went to work after and lasted all of an hour. Good thing I don't drive, I would have fallen asleep at the wheel. I slept for 6 hours. Feel pretty good now.
-
Hi all! I am from the May group, and am half way through my TC x 4 treatments. You may find it helpful to check out the boards from prior months to get a feel for what is coming. Definitely drink lots of water before, during, and after. Also for you TC folks, there is also a May and June board for this combo, and you can see what to expect.
Good luck everyone! It will not be as bad as you think it will be, including losing your hair.

Thanks neecee! I have been reading up. I feel kinda wimpy lately. I am around some people who make me feel like I should be perfectly normal. I have been keeping up with my kiddos, dong laundry, and cooking but I feel really bad today. My hubby works 12 hour shifts so he is gone most of the day but he will be off the next 3 days. He was off to go with me to chemo but had to go back to work the next day. My next treatment he will not be off to take me so my bff is taking me which works out good because that will put him home on day 3 and 4. He works 2 on 3 off kinda thing. Today is my day 4 of T/C. I feel a little lost. I feel kinda like I have the flu. My bones are achy, my throat is hurting, and my stomach is really mad at me. I have been making sure that I drink and eat but it is rough today. I know there is a light at the end of the tunnel but I sure will be glad when I get closer to it.
-
Jamie, I'm paying close attention to you, because I'm also getting the four rounds of TC. Are you doing rads and endocrine therapy afterward? I'm encouraged that you are at least able to log in and post an update here. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
I'm a little bummed out today because I had my chemo teaching class today and learned that I can't start on the 7th as I'd hoped, unless there's a cancellation. Because of the holiday, they're trying to fit too many people into too few slots next week. This means we're probably postponing our trip later this month. It may end up being a good thing, because my boyfriend just found out that he has to have outpatient surgery on July 28th, which would have ended up being the day of my second infusion. The thought of him recuperating from surgery and me not feeling well from chemo... well, I'll be honest, we laughed at the idea. I believe his words were, "Aren't we a pair?"
Still, I'm frustrated about not being able to get started, because I want to get it all over with!
-
Jamie30 - I found that I start feeling the worst at day 3. Did you get a Neulasta shot the day after treatment? It may account for some of the aches and pains. I also have "angry stomach", and use probiotics and Maalox to manage it. You should find that you start feeling closer to normal by day 8.
BTW, I am working full time (retail) during my TC treatments. My boss schedules me off on treatment day, and again on my day 3. My husband takes me to my treatments, but other than that, he works his normal schedule (full time day job and part-time night job 5 days a week). Because of how I have to be scheduled during treatment weeks, I sometimes go days without seeing him for more than a few minutes. So I know how tough it is!
-
constipation help. A nurse who is a colonoscopy tech told me to drink Nutri Slim tea. I use 2 teabags to a cup of hot water and wow did it work in about 6 hours for me Possibly less or more for you. It comes in a bright green box in the grocery section where all the other teas are.
-
Jenn-uk - I am having my port installed this coming Friday. Will let you know.
-
Hi all, I guess i'll jump in here, I had my first treatment on Wed. June 29th but I think I'll fit best in the July group.
I am on 5FU, Cytoxan and Epirubicin every 3 weeks for 4x, then every 3 weeks a dose of docetaxel for 4x. So my last treatment is the day before Thanksgiving.
Does that mean I am a FEC treatment? I don't understand the lingo too well...and I have the chemo fog.
I had a bad bout a few hours after treatment, nausea and flu like symptoms but felt pretty good the last few days.
I go Wed. to get bloodwork done to check my white cells.
Here's to us having few side effects and getting through July chemo!!
xoxo
-
Treated myself to a spa afternoon to get ready for my first T/C on Thursday. I need to do it more often. Wish I could stay this relaxed until Thurs.
-
A spa afternoon sounds awesome, I'll have to do that soon!!!
-
Hi ladies... Sounds like this is my group. I was diagnosed in Apr, had my BMX in May, I go in for my port on this coming Wed, and then start TCHx6 on July 11th. I am 41, married and have 4 kiddos... I am still in shock and totally afraid of the unknown. So happy to have found this group.
-
Hi mommaof4
Join the shocked and afraid of the unknown! I remember being scared to death of getting the port put in and when it was done, it was not worth all the worry, but easier said than done. Then I was scared of the first chemo, what to expect, how I would react during, after, it was a breeze, sick the first night but now that I look back, it wasn't too bad. Hoping that is my worst of side effects.
This is a great group here, I too am very glad I found this forum, we have each other to lean on, learn from and support.
hugs to all
-
Hi rabbit and mommaof4 - the unknown is indeed scary and the fear of this horrible big C is unimaginable. Felt like a death sentence when I was Dx BUT remember this is not the end as we all can beat this Monster. I tell myself step by step moment by moment and as a Christian I am comforted that my Lord will never give me more than what I can bear. rabbit - very relieved to read about your experience. I am getting mine next week ..... Baby steps. I survived last Dx which is ER+ grade 3 IDC too and it has been almost 5 years.
-
Still can't believe I slept almost 23 hours strait. Scored some sushi for dinner with my parents. It still tastes good. Little bit nauseous, but I feel like it won't last through tomorrow. So far nothing has really bothered me. Getting the BMX, the port, starting chemo. I feel like I'm in a dream. A bad dream. Guess I'll just count down the days to no more hair. Need to buy more cotton scarves. Shopping therapy.

Good rest. Our bodies need it
