I say yes, you say no, OR People are Strange

Animal and nature lover here.... 

I like big dogs and I plead guilty to preferring pure breeds. Labs and German shepherds are my favs, as KK used to say. I do not like small dogs with loud annoying barks.

I also like snakes and mice - and ducks. It's just bats I dislike - as well as large moths that are not found in this country (I think) but that stick to walls. I watched Hitchcock's "Birds" several times as a small child and, since then, anything with wings makes me nervous. I can handle birds only at a distance.

Oh I love the looks of collies. We have a shelty  which looks very much like a collie. I agree collies, shelties, and border collies are very loyal and smart.

I can't stand rodents or snakes. I will never forget the first year I was teaching when i pulled the tree for the class out of the closet there was a mouse in the box. I climbed on a table spelling mouse I have no idea what I thought that would do. I still can't believe I was so scared by the poor thing. Thank goodness a kid in the class picked the thing up and took it outside for me.

One movie on my NOT SEE list. Scared the cr@p out of me too.

Dinner, let's see. Sauteed organic kale with mushrooms,garlic, roma tomatoes and onions and braised (with garlic, white wine and onion) organic free range chicken (cut up and tossed into the kale).

The original "Birds" scared me so much.  I was terrified of birds after that.  I'm still a little leery of them, especially when they do a fly by next to me! 

Kira .. thank goodness you had a student that wasn't afraid of mice.  They really don't bother me too much, but snakes are another story.  I've seen two in my yard already this year.  They were little, but too close to the house for my comfort.

Gracie .. I've got a border collie mix and she is the sweetest dog in the whole world .. and smart too.

Barbara .. Dinner sounds great.  I think I will have some tortellini tonight.  Its from the frozen section of the store, but still tastes good.

Gracie .. My maggie doesn't chew and isn't hyper.  She's just a love bug.  But I do have quite a bit of room for her to run in.   She will bark if someone comes to the door or if there is a deer in the yard.  She's not much of a jumper and only sometimes sits on the couch.

She has a wonderful disposition.  I got her when she was about 2 and she's 8 years-old now.  I'll see if I can find a pic of her somewhere.

She's our pack leader and taught my other puppy Tank how to herd .. now he loves to herd whatever he can find!

Labs are good family dogs too, loyal and even tempered.

DH and I had two labs years ago - both were rescues and they lived to be 15 and 13 respectively - they were wonderful but the male, Faro, chewed for all 15 years - shoes weren't safe around him - no idea why that was but aside from that they were good natured, great guard dogs and lots of fun for all ages - DH was right though, we were glad we were relatively young when we had them as they required LOTS of exercise, I now have a "pre-owned" Bichon - she is 12 and hasn't slowed down a bit - she's wonderful company and still loves to play - she was a little hard to train (I got her when she was 18 months old) but the stubborness is offset by her being so smart.

We had a black lab when we were young. I agree they have lots of energy. Ours was a Houdini. She could get out of anything. She learned how to take the lock of the sliding glass door, and would go wandering the neighborhood. She also learned how to get out of the crate we put her in.

I will say thought the kids loved her, and she loved them. The boys now have labs themselves, so that talks to how much she touched their lives.

Pets really do become part of our families. I had my cat for 19 years and when we had to put her to sleep I cried for months at the drop of a hat. Just going into the store and seeing the cat food would get the tears flowing.  Finally, went and adopted one at the humane society thinking that would help. It really didn't, but I love her too. Have had her now for 6 years and another one my daughter left here for me to take care of until she could take her. But, she now has become part of the family and told my daughter it will break my heart if she takes her. Funny how we can fall so deeply in love with our animals.

Labs that don't like other dogs???  MUST be part mutt.

Dinner is crab. First time in a few days that I can say what dinner is without feeling embarrassed at my, shall we say, lackadaisical food habits (last night was a bag of UTZ!). Still losing weight, though, because I do lots of exercise.  

Oooh Kira, you almost made me get goosebumps. Birds with today's technology - in 3D, for example - would be truly awful.

She's not particularly friendly but likes to hang around us. I only got her when she was already 3 (nearly 5 now). She only likes me because I feed her - low fat Science Diet plus a little tinned food. She's a British Blue - the most incredibly soft fur you have ever felt - not a bit like normal cat fur.

Otter, I am no reptile hater. I adore turtles - how sweet!
