Survivors who have used only alternative treatments

Lynn ... Off topic, but I've been meaning to tell you I love your avatar. I have that exact same color of morning glories tattooed on my lower back. I have five different kinds growing in my flower garden.
Bren

BinVA: Thanks! Your tatoo must be very pretty-I love that shade of blue. I like your avatar too-I have a lot of roadrunners around my house and they really do look just like that when they run.
-
I wouldn't normally jump in on this thread but my family dr. happens to be an expert on L-Carnitine. He headed the last convention on the subject. It only proves useful if using it during chemo. It does little once chemo is finsished. It has a very small window for effectiveness.
-
Lynn ... thanks! You must be in the southwest somewhere. We don't have roadrunners back east, but I used to see them when I lived in southern Utah and Nevada.
hugs,
Bren

Ladies..............my surgeon said "no way" to me when I suggested having a double mast. instead of a lumpectomy, saying "that's a lot of surgery", "and for you not necessary"..........I'm glad now that I listened to him....................I am doing fine, just contemplating Femara.............now
stop arguing ladies, and turn on country and listen to Scotty McCreery sing his new single called "I Love You This Big"...............great song, which will calm you all down................
-
Shirley....why don't you, and (your fragmented sentence teacher) shokk head on back over to your other site. Which is where you report back to each other, after checking here first to see what the wonderful ladies here are discussing. Then you all bash the ladies here for discussing such trivial things, like dinner and vacations and not being intelligent enough to discuss more important things that really matter. Shame on you!
-
Claire_in_Seattle that is so cool you were in the study. I only took it once a day but I do believe it worked. I think I started right after my 2nd tx. Left foot had already started but didn't seem to get it elsewhere.
-
Shirley, I think you missed the post that Patzee posted where Patmom sent one of the pm's to her badmouthing me and my "gang". All was revealed. Another one was from janeluvsdogs and veggiegal. So please get your facts straight.
-
Looks like I missed the treatment time for neuropathy - I was told at the time that it would disappear within three months and it didn't - but it's not nearly as bad as it was at first and I pretty much try to ignore it - for some reason it's made wearing sandals difficult - perhaps it's the lack of arch support - anyway it's not a big deal but I was hoping I'd get lucky.

Didn't mean to be so sarcastic with my beta blocker "story" comment - I am actually on a beta blocker myself and have been since my bc diagnosis - that's why I am nervous about blood sugar - my numbers skyrocketed while I was on AIs and that's why I finally dropped them but I cannot drop my beta blocker - it took forever for me to find one that didn't slow me down and my blood sugar is way down in the normal range now and I try to keep it there - I've had to give up my love affair with pasta and good bread except on rare occasions and I've taken up exercising and eating tons of vegetables instead.

Is there another thread that posts stuff about holistic/natural healthcare that doesn't bash those of us that also used conventional treatment? I'm not asking to be argumenative, I'm asking because I am sincerely interested in which supplements, etc., are helpful for different side effects/diseases. It would be nice to have that info all on one thread. I love it when people post links to studies, because that really saves me the time of doing the searching.
I still have neuropathy from 2 years of chemo (2 diff. cancers; both tx had chemos that cause neuropathy), and I am wondering what I can take now. I asked my onc about 2 supplements (Glutamine and one of the B vitamins-don't remember which one), and he told me it was ok to take them, but the studies were inconclusive. He is big on research, and knows his stuff, so he doesn't recommend something unless there has been a large, conclusive study. So many things are said to be the "miracle cure", only to be found out later to be dangerous or ineffective. He did tell me about a trial that is going on now about some sort of cream that might help with neuropathy. So that sounded hopeful.
Anyways, I have been taking B6, but never did try the glutamine. Any advice on what may help now?
Lago--I'm not following you around, but I always like it when you show up on a thread I am reading because you are always so level-headed and have great research and facts to share. Thank you!

Lago - what Tina said!
Sandy
-
TMarina, You will find lots of good info on the natural girls thread. I find it very informative, and very respectful to all.
-
Referring to Lago.
Yes, I agree too.....LIKE!
-
Thanks Kira! I will check it out!
-
Tina -- I had some neuropathy in my hands (kept dropping things because I couldn't judge the "grip" level!) and in my toes following taxotere. I took L-Glutamine (500mgs before bedtime) for about 4 months. My neuropathy cleared up. Whether it would have, on its own, or not, I do not know. However, it did disappear. Hope this helps!

I'm glad my posts are useful. thanks
-
Lago...............always are and I too enjoy conversing with you.................
-
208sandy: I know, I just didn't want to appear to be pushing beta blockers, lol. That study is interesting, though. I am glad you were able to get your blood sugar within normal levels--good for you!

Blue, what on earth are you talking about? I wasn't posting about PMs.
Oh, I'm sorry. I only noticed that this thread was entitled, "Survivors who have used only alternative treatments".
Patty, I'm happy to know that you read other sites. I hope you also read things that we post about world events. You may learn something. And, Patty, I don't believe you know the history of relationships on this board. I don't know how long you've been a member.

Shirley .. I got a PM from another member, copying a PM she had received that was slamming ME to hilt. The very same PM also slammed Blue and Angel.
Talk about not knowing the history of the boards. I know the name of the person who was doing all that slamming. Sadly .. it didn't surprise me at all. All I will say is that it is a member who posts regularly on Breastcanswer.com. It's a sad state of affairs when people are sending hate PM's to one another about other members on this site. Is that the history of relationships on this board you're talking about?

Shirley, I didn't fall off a turnip truck and I hate when someone lies to me, to my face (pm) when that person was logged on at the time of the reporting and told me she wasn't, actually hadn't been on for hours. Outright lie.
-
Bren that is a shame..I came here in hopes to find out if there were alternative therapies should/could try as my body heals from surgery and treatments. I've been afraid to post a thing because i keep hearing about all these people getting reported for no reason. This thread states to discuss Acupuncture...Massage therapy, supplements and herbal treatments. All things that interest me ..but apparently I am not qualified to be here since I am not into 100% holistic therapy.
I will try the natural girls thread
Diane

Add that to the pm that was revealed and BINGO! The other two, janeluvsdogs and veggiegal....well I know who they are. No surprises there either.
-
Well at least one of them has been disarmed
-
That's the only good thing that came from Patzee's escapades. She outed the behind the scenes subterfuge. This has been going on a long time. Maybe they will think twice now.
NHC, it's still to early to say, but hands will be spanked as one case has shown.
-
Shirley, thanks for the invite but I'm not sure there is much to be learned over there.
-
Can't question anything either, over there, Patty, cause if your opinion differs, you WILL be banned, which is what they are hoping for around here too.
-
TMarina..why don't you start the new thread? I think that would be great...! I did have chemo but I still go on the natural girls thread and read what they are doing...I figure it can't hurt. I have read alot about vitamins to take, d3 levels and lots of other information.
We are trying to raise an organic garden..problem is..the rabbits seem to like it too..any ideas on how to discourage the dang rabbits from eating my green beans and tomatoes? We are going to put some marigolds around the garden...I guess the smell of them is supposed to keep the varmints away..
I just love having a garden..walk out the door, pick the veggies fresh and eat them..it doesn't get any better than that.
Sorry..I didn't stay on topic.
Bottom line is...whether or not we have had chemo...our goal is to stay alive..right? So why don't we all get together and share our information and get on with it..
