Norma My sister and I haven't spoken since the week after my BMX. She did call and wish me a happy birthday but I wasn't home. It was my 50th. She sent me a generous gift card from norstrom. I called for a month but no one answered. I finally sent her an email stating I wanted to thank her over the phone… when would be a good time to call. She said she would call me that weekend. That was sometime in March. I think she's pretty much written me off. I can't waste anymore time on this.

Granted I didn't call her on her birthday but that was my first chemo tx.

Lago is right - powder is much better for the brows than pencil.  I had been using Brow Zings from Sephora for a couple of years so continued using that until I went to the Feel Good...Look Better meeting and they gave me something for my brows I like even better.  It's called BeautiControl but I have no idea where you can get it.  There are 3 brownish shades, I guess so you can mix them or use alone.  Anyway, they work for me.  The beginning of my brows are brown and the rest is coming in grey so I really need the powder.

Hair on head:  is there anyone else out there besides me who runs to the mirror a minimum of once and usually do it two or even three times to look to see if there is any new hair growth on my head?

Thanks Lago... Yes I do have an Ulta too... I went to Sephora in january before chemo to gather all my gear and the girl was nice but not very helpful... I went in asking for the powder, but left with a pencil, and an expensive pencil at that.... and false eyelashes, which I haven't needed.... hopefully won't.

    Fitz,

Beauty Control is similar to Mary Kay. It's a direct buy product sold at home shows or through a consultant.

bdavis I bought mine before the surgery in early August. While everyone was worried about their hair I was worried about my eyebrows. I even looked at the stencils they had. The girl at Ulta was very helpful.

Fitz33, I rub my hand all over my head a couple times a day to feel if there is any thickening or lengthening  of the hair coming in.  I also check for signs of growth by looking in the mirror in different lighting (bedroom mirror versus bathroom mirror, ect.).

I have a question for you ladies, I've actually just started chemo and shaved my head this weekend so I have a very long wait before I can really start to post on this thread but a friend of mine came for a visit this weekend and gave me the nioxin system, is this something I should or should not use during chemo?  Would it just be a waste of money to use now?  Should I just save it until after its over?  Thanks for any input.  You all look wonderful in your pics and I can't wait to be a part of it.

mccrimmon I was using women's minoxidil before chemo because my hair was receding a bit the past few years. Once I started chemo I stopped. I started again once chemo was over. BTW most of the recede when away.

My vote would be not to waste your money and save it for when you're done.

Lago, Thank you, I won't use it during chemo then, did you use anything special?

I just cut my hair short. Never even buzzed it. Wore scarves all the time except for 2 days. My avatar photo is one of them. That's 2 weeks after my 4th tx of TCH. I did keep up with my biotin which I've been taking for years.

I did have to vacuum my bathroom and pillow every day for a few weeks. Having buzzed will help with the mess. I assume you saw my transistion link.

I did see your link and I love it!  I bought a wig, had long hair, cut it to a shorter bob in the style of my wig then had a friend buzz it this weekend, it was driving my crazy, couldn't brush it without filling the brush in one swipe so it was time.  Surprisingly, its comfortable and not nearly as traumatic as I thought it was going to be.  I have a buff I plan of wearing around the house and the wig is for work and public

I am 3.5 months PFC I had TC.  I wore a wig for most of the time that I went out.  I have been going topless for about 2 weeks.  At first I felt like people were staring but I do not care anymore. The one thing I never go without is earrings, even to the gym.

I used Carrol2 progression photo to measure my progress.  My growth rate is similar so it has been very helpful.

My eyebrows and eyelashes started to get thin around week 5-6 PFC then they fell completely by week 7-8 PFC on my right side but not on the left which made it more obvious.  I would say in about one week they started to come in full force.

I had A/C followed by taxotere. Both treatments were 4 times every 3 weeks. I lost my hair two weeks after the first A/C treatment and it was growing back by the final treatment. It was about 1 and 1/2 inches long. I was thrilled. After the second taxotere treatment, my hair fell out again. I thought I would never have hair again. I was wrong and it is now growiing back. I am 10 and 1/2 weeks since the last taxotere treatment and my head is completely covered with hair. Strange, white, curly hair, but it is HAIR!!!!. I live in Puerto Rico so it is hot. I think in another couple of weeks I will try to venture out without the wig. I just wanted to let others know that when the hair starts to grow, it grows fast.

Regarding your question about Nioxin, in my experience it is better for keeping hair from falling out rather than promoting growth though it is reputed to create favourable scalp condition to support growth. I did use it throughout chemo and just want to point out that cost isn't really a factor at that point, as with very little hair you only need to use a tiny, tiny amount each time; it lathers well.

islandmom so glad to hear my chart was helpful. I really need to find a way to get my progress charts and those of women like me out there for people to see who are embarking on these journeys. I made a chart with my reconstruction progress and my PS wants to use it to show other patients. I hope when all of this is over for me I can volounteer and help other women some how and I was thinking these charts might be helpful.

I use the Nioxin 3 step products. I did not start until 3 weeks PFC. It's about 7 months now. I stopped using it for a month and although my hair did grow it seemed to grow slower that month which was the last month if you look at my chart. I guess it will be more noticeable when I add the next pics in two more weeks.

    Hi girls!

Lago--thinking of you--how did exchange surgery go?

Thanks to everyone for the photos!

I have an 8.5 wk PFC pic to post...(hopefully I will figure this out)8.5 wks PFC

This one below is my 6.5 wks PFC:

    6.5 wk PFC

and the last is my 4 wk PFC "Peach Fuzz"

    4.5 wks PFC

As you can probably tell...I just colored it today (10 minutes before I took the photo) I know it's early...I mean who bothers to color at 8.5 wks PFC, but I really *really* could not bear to look at all the gray.

In other news, I finally showed DH my head yesterday for the first time. I had kind of been protecting him from that visual (he buzzed me with the clippers 15 days after my 1st chemo, but hasn't seen anything since.)
Here's what he said, "Well, you've certainly been holding out on me...were you waiting until you grew pigtails??"
    Cracked me up :)

sclst -- looking good!  Not only does your hair look like it is really coming in evenly, I can see from your first post that you have a nice-shaped head, which  I predict means you will look better, sooner.

sclst - nice hair!  it's coming in so evenly - that's great!  my hair is coming in very unevenly, which is a total pain.  I was rocking the male pattern baldness look for a few weeks - ack!  but now it is filling in and I may color it in two weeks.  I think park of the reason that my hair looked like it was thinning is that so much of it was white/gray and blended with my scalp.  but it is filling in now, so yay!

    Hey all,

Does anyone know how long after chemo you should wait to dye your hair?

    Thanks!

mcrimmon324- ABSOLUTLEY use the Nioxin, I have used Nioxin for years and so when I went through Chemo I continued to use it everyday on my bald head, I SWEAR by it and I am 11 months post chemo now and you should SEE the head of hair I have.

    I'm a big Nioxin fan....good luck with chemo :)

Thanks for the pics slcst12. I am also 8.5 weeks PFC but my hair looks more like your 6.5 weeks pic. I started taking weekly pics last week and will try to post later this week.

I'm a big fan of Nioxin as well.  I started it just a few weeks before chemo and used it almost all the way through.  I ran out for about 3 weeks and figured it didn't really matter.  In those 3 weeks, my hair shed a LOT more.

I'm 2 weeks PFC and I have more hair than most on thread during that time frame.  Now, I don't have a full head or anything...I should figure out how to post a picture....

slcst12: You are looking good!!! It will go much faster now.  Too funny you already colored it.  I got so many grays I need to color soon.

lago:  I was trying to look at your progression but the link was not working.  It could have just been my computer.  Hope you are feeling better.
