Hair Hair Hair - Another question

Bdavis- I was disappointed in the Brian Joseph's too. My eyebrows and lashes came back quick, but I have noticed a sparse area on my right brow again- six months PFC. I hope I don't lose them completely again!!
The stylist that cut my hair for the time- really trimmed alot off the back as he said I would look like I had a mullet as the sides and top weren't as long. Right now it is a curly mess in the back and wavy on the top and sides. I feel like I look 20 years older. I can't wait until it's long enough to straighten.
-
Sunflower... your link does not work
-
Lago, I was told the eyebrows can cycle in and out for over a year. That has definitely been the case for me, that's what I'm counting on. Could be Tamox, too. I shave my face. The fuzz looks ridiculous.
-
And Tif... I thought it was working at least on my lashes until the last few days... they have thinned a lot, especially the bottom lashes... Brows went on vacation in March/April and have not come back (yet)... so I hope they do.
-
Luckily, no face hair for me... yet...
-
LtotheK - when you shave your face, have you noticed if the hair comes in faster and/or darker? I'm afraid to shave it and have been told it will fall out eventually on its on, but don't know when. I really think I will shave it before my sisters wedding and then deal with what happens later.
-
Hi ReadingMama, from my personal experience and everything I've read, it's an old wives tale that shaving causes things to grow in faster or thicker. It changes the shape of the hair that grows in, which I guess could change the way light reflects. If you are worried about it, have it professionally waxed! I tend to get ingrowns that way, a light shave right around my ears and jaw really makes my sunlight profile look less like an animal : )
-
bdavis you are looking good
. You have a lot more hair than I had at 7 weeks. It will probably go faster now. I have been thinking about Latisse but I read about the side effects too.
-
Here's hoping
-
mommaof4 - I lost all my lashes and used Latisse once they started coming back in. It was my understanding from my onc that there are no products that will save your hair/lashes/brows etc....but products are available to boost growth once it has started.
-
I used latisse during chemo and while almost all my eyelashes fell out, the 5 remaining are super long. my PS just gave me another one month sample of it (yay...that crap is expensive) and I'm going to start dousing my remaining brows with it to see if I can hang on to them a little longer while I wait for their friends to rejoin. my understanding is that it extends the grow cycle of hair.

opps..couldnt add words after I figured out the pictures..anyways, this is almost 4 weeks post chemo..and my hair is growing on the sides and back some but its very sparse up top!..and I was never grey like this pre chemo..I am 43
-
marial, your hair is long!! I am 9 weeks post chemo, mine is short and dark, with a touch of gray at the sides. Is this some of the hair you never lost too?
-
looks great bdavis. i love the color.
mariel your hair is growing fast. Mine grew in a bit slower on the top too but i did not have as much hair as you at 4 weeks.
-
Yes, the back is getting long, and some of the sides but the top is so empty compared to the back! No I had shaved my head while I was on AC when it was falling out n clumps so its not some hair that I never lost..mine only has a small amount of darkness scattered through all the grey..I am normally dk brown
-
marial,
don't worry about the gray, thats why they make color
, just be happy with all that growth.
-
Yes I will be coloring it once I actually have hair that covers my scalp! I think its growing really slowly so I am glad to hear its not as slow as I think it is!...thanks!
-
bdavis & Marial- looking good.
Thanks ladies for the comment on my eyes. No one has ever commented on my eyes before you ladies. I'll go with my long hair pre-chemo was hiding them. I actually went to church Sunday and work today topless. It WAS wonderful and so freeing.
-
kaseymomto2boys, congrats on being topless today! BC gives new meaning to "topless".
-
I am 4 weeks PFC...at 2 weeks onc and nurses said if I hadn't lost lashes I probably wouldn't but I was not confident of that, especially after reading many on the threads here. My inner lashes are gone, a patch in the middle, and a few on the outer edges. Wearing a little eyeliner helps and the mascara enhances the ones that are there. Wig also has long bangs, so unless you are looking for it, I don't think youd notice. But they are getting thinner. I called to get a prescription for Latisse and will start that Friday. Will also show onc that yes, lashes do go a month or more post-chemo!
-
Thanks Carrol... so you love the color?? I am not even sure what color it is... I am a blond (normally), but this hair has a lot of gray... I think I will have a better feel for it in another couple of weeks.
So Christine, your hair is dark?? No gray?
Mariel... You are only 4 weeks out... I was looking at pictures 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks and now 7 weeks of my head and a lot happened between 4 and 7 weeks... some of my bald spots (temples for me) have started to fill in... don't despair. And at 43 I am sure you will get your brown hair back... I am 48 and the gray worries me... and I know I can always color but would prefer to not rely on that,
-
bdavis, yes dark hair with a very little bit of gray on the sides. My hair is not as long as many, but looks like it is filling in ok. I am on vacation this week, but sometime next week when I am at home computer I will post new pictures.
my lashes are getting thinner, but my brows are growing back so quick and very dark, they will be a wider brow than I had prior to chemo, how crazy is that.
I will be having surgery in about 2 weeks, hope hair grows enough that I don't look to bad with my ball caps. At least not shinny bald anymore.
-
Huskerkkc, I have also lost a few lashes in the middle of my lower lid on one eye only, but the rest seem to be hanging in there, at least for now! I still have one treatment to go, though...
Funny story...many years ago, I was curling my lashes before work, and I had a bandaid on my thumb, which was wet from the shower or washing my hand, I guess... Anyway, curler slipped on the wet bandaid, and I ended up RIPPING OUT about half the lashes on my upper lid. I felt so naked, I almost called in sick to work that day! Of course, no one even noticed! So, I guess I don't worry so much about the lashes, because I don't think people pay that much attention to them. These days, I'm worrying more about people seeing my naked head than my naked eyes!
-
I still have no new growth on my brows..I have lost more..but none have grown..I even have this short brow hair that has been short for months and hasn't ever grown anymore..I am getting some new lashes while losing others.. Everytime I was my face in the sink, I see a few short dark hairs..not aure if it's from my head..my lashes..or brows
-
Marial... I have no movement with my brows also... they thinned in March/april and that is how they still are and I am 7 weeks post chemo...
-
I am two weeks PFC today. I have quite a bit of hair, but you can't see it because it is that fluffy white stuff! My sideburns are albino though, so I can't wait to color my hair. I used the Brian Joseph's gel and never lost my eyebrows or eyelashes. I CAN NOT WAIT to ditch the scarves and hats. Can not tolerate a wig (total waste of money for me). It is just too hot in Alabama to wear anything on my head.
-
Oops! Here it is 14 weeks of growth. I have gone topless.
-
sunflower, you look marvelous!! Ditch that wig.
-
We can't count the first 3 weeks after our last chemo. Normally w/chemo we would have had another treatment then so w/o the chemo it's allowed to grow. I hope that makes everyone feel better.
