Hi all,  Sorry I did not get back here after my surgery.  It went very well and I have healed very quickly.  Sad to report that final pathology and scans show I am Stage IV so lots of new treatments to look forward to.

I am always up for a meet and greet...

    Kezzie

P.S  deborye... I agree 100% enough with all the rain and fog..

    Hi ladies.....

I recently finished chemo and will start radiation in two weeks.  I decided to write on this discussion board because it was named "Boston Area".  I live south of Boston and I am trying to find a "Breast Cancer Support Group" or a group of some kind.  I was wondering if anyone here could help me?  Please write whenever you have time.  I would really appreciate your input!

    Thanks, Christine

    Hi Christine,

I also live South of Boston in Taunton.. Where do you live?? Some of the local hospitals have them if you check their web sites. I did try one near me but all were 8 yr plus survivors and none had had chemo, BMX or reconstruction.. They didn't even know any of the current tests like Brac, oncotype or medications so I couldn't really relate to them. I've often thought of trying to start one but don't eally know how to go about it.. Feel free to PM me if you want... Good luck

    Hi mrsb45,

I live in Middleboro.  We're neighbors!  I have looked into hospitals and I recently went to a group at Jordan Hospital but it wasn't a match for me.  There was alot of different cancers and it felt very sad. Everyone went around the room and told their sad story.  By the time they did that the time was up and that was it.  I was so disappointed.  I really want a "Breast Cancer" group.  Starting your own group sounds like a great idea.  I can be your first member and we could try to recruit on this discussion board to see if there is others?  Thank you for writing.  Hopefully we can talk soon.

Hi All,   I live in Waltham and would love a group where I could talk and air my feelings. I did join one at Lahey  but there were only 3 people and it was sort of wierd!  I would love to join one and am willing to travel pretty much any where in the immediate area!

There are a number of groups in Boston. Beth Israel has three for breast cancer on Mondays, Dana Farber has a couple on Wednesday [maybe?] and then there is a really interesting group that meets at Trinity Church. You don't need to be a member of the church to join. The group at Mt. Auburn is a mixed group, not just breast cancer. There is an issue that you have to pay for parking for all of these groups.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Christine,

I teach preschool in Newton. I love it, I have the 3 year old class. I will be finished for the summer next week. I'm sure it will be good for you to get back to work and try to get past everything you've gone through!     I really like the idea of starting our own group, it might be more informal than the ones at the hospitals.

    Hi ladies,

I think we should find a restuarant, location etc for us to meet and share our stories.  I think we all could use a "night out"  ??!!  What do you think??  Do you have any suggestions?  I read Keno and Snoopy are interested?  If anyone else..... let us know.

    Talk soon!!

I'd be interested as well, except for the dates of July 12th-15th, as I'll be out of town.

Hi Snoopy73, I'm in Gloucester now but formerly from Salem, all my in-laws are still there.  Great town!  I've been thru chemo-twice, rads and lots of surgery, I'd be glad to answer any questions you might have along the way.

    Edited for clarification

Hi Glostagirl - I love Salem:-) looks like we are neighbours. I am sorry about all that you have been through, I hope you are feeling much better now. I am starting chemo in july, I will know the exact dates tomorrow as I have a meeting wiht my med onco & NP. I am scheduled for 4-6 cycles of TC then radiation then tamoxifen:-( I am planning on using the Penguin Cold Caps to preserve my hair while going through chemo, i heard alot of positive feedback from pple who are currently using them or have used them in the past.I am so scared & nervous of chemo as I dont know what to expect. I feel like I am getting so much info and not sure which one is right or for meand which is not, basically scared of the unknown:-( Iam told the TCis not as aggressive but dont know really. I am planning to work while doing chemo, again not sure how my body will react; I work in Boston, near downtown crossing to be exact, so i commute from salem every day; was planning to take the day off on chemo day and maybe work from home the next 2 days after chemo... aaahh not sure how it'll work out. Spoke to HR and they told me that i could always be on short term disability, so i'll see how it goes after my first chemo. Sorry to be blabbing:-)

Is there a meet & greet july 12th - 15th? where? would love to try and be there if i have the details.

    Hi Snoopy73,

An acquaintance of mine used the Penguin Cold Cap with excellent results. If you haven't already seen it there is a topic of the cold caps here.  Good to have the option to work from home if you need to. Your body will tell you what you need to do. Everyone tolerates chemo differently. Don't push yourself too much. You will need lots of energy for healing. I am from Rockport but live in Maine now. My family is in Rockport and Gloucester and we spend as much time there as possible.

I will put in my order nexxt week and pray for the best results:-) You are right, I will listen to my body and wont puch myself (actually thats also what the HR personnel told me yday). Thanks for the input:-)

I would be interested too. I live in Waltham which is very convenient to many highways, so would be able to go pretty much anywhere. I will be in York Maine on vacation the week of July 17 but other than that will be free!

Sorry.....  I had a computer problem and was unable to use my computer for a few days.   I need help picking a convenient "meeting place" for all of us.  Everyone is coming from a different town.  I was thinking a restuarant??  Anyone know of a place and town that would be convenient for all of us??  It looks like one from Middleboro, one from Taunton, one from Waltham, one from Salem and one from Glouster.  deborye.... sorry I don't know what town you are in?    A total of 6 so far but anyone else let us know and you are welcome!!    Also,  it sounds like the week of July 10th and July 17th won't work for some.  How about Saturday July 16th??  6:00 pm ??   I thought of a Saturday ...because most people work M-F and I am trying to make it so everyone can be there.    Let me know what you all think.   I hope this happens..... I am looking forward to meeting all of you!!
