Hi I am new to older women thread. I am 62 and look forward to getting t o know all of you. I have had cancer for a year and went from stage IIIB to stage IV within a year's time. Recurrence is Inflammatory. I have 3 positive nodes on side where I didn't have mastectomy.
-
Hi Susan and welcome. This is a fine group of women where we share our lives and have fun and just chit chat. So sorry you recurred. Hugs, pal. Welcome.
-
GramE.....aren't you thrilled with how easy the cataract surgery is and how much your vision improves immediately. I am totally off the drops now and next thing I will do is get some reading glasses which I almost don't need, but want for work and also find I have to strain unless it is large print when reading in bed at night.
Barb is right Susan, this is a good thread. I am in OH also. Marybe

Susan - welcome to our little group. We have lost of love and friendship to share with each other. We are here to give each other love, encouragement, support and advice from our own experiences so jump right in and get to know us as we get to know you. Let us know whatever is on your mind.
Nancy - Hope your surgery goes well as the last time.
Marybe - glad that you are doing better and had such good success with your cataract surgery. Hope to see you soon.
Alyson - glad you can enjoy a beautiful sunny day. Have fun with the grandchildren.
We found out yesterday that now our DD#2 is expecting a baby at the end of January. That will make #4 for her and our 7th grandchild. Our DD#1 is expecting #3 for her and our 6th grandchild sometime between July 23 and Aug 2nd. Our little family is growing and growing.

Oh AmyJo, how wonderful! Congratulations to everybody. What an exciting time!
We keep out 2 year old GS and had a surprise when he got here this morning---his beautiful blond baby curls are all gone. Ohhh! His dad gave him a buzz cut last night and he now looks like he has a 4 year old head. Oh well, grandparents can't say anything you know, and I suppose it was time.
Nancy, hope your surgery went well.
Marybe, that's great about your cataract results. I'll be having it done also but don't know when yet. Had one for several years but so far it seems that it's not bothering my vision.
Welcome Susan--we look forward to having you here. By all means, ask anything and somebody will help.
Kathy

Congrats to you AmyJo..what a wonderful bit of news..
-
AJ How WONDERFUL! You are so blessed.
I went to 'Painting with a Twist' tonight to benefit Ronald McDonald House and here is the pic I was supposed to paint followed by what I really painted.

BarbA - Hey girl that is pretty good. I did not know you were an artist. Do you like to paint? The best job I did was painting my front door. Never really tried anything else.
Kathy - grandchildren do grow up, sorry your GS got a buzz cut. I would have thought a little boy haircut would have been better than a buzz for the first haircut, but like you said, grandparents cannot say anything.
Thanks for all the congrats on the new grandbaby. I never thought my 2 girls would have so many children. I just love them all, I just don't think I could handle all of them at one time since there are going to be so many of them. I will have to take them in shifts to spoil them.
-
I love it Barbara..good for you
-
amy jo: so many gkids..your really lucky.. congrats. my son keeps "threatening" to have "one more"..so, we'll see..
Barb, thats' a mighty nice picture, girl.. keep it up!
susan, welcome. this is a great group of gals. all different dxs' all different personalities. the only thing we have in common,, really, is that we care about each other, very much... im glad you chose us to join in.. 3jays
-
BarbA-you are a regular - I don't know artists- but Monet comes to mind, altho I think he didn't do what you did, but you did what you did better than he would have done it! And with that-I'm headed to bed (stone cold sober folks!)
-
These little guys are a spirited group of birds..up our alley
-
Morning Lisa, what on earth are you doing up at 3:30?
-
Barb, I wish I knew..when I don't get my siestas, my schedule is blown
-
Lisa, my siesta schedule is blown this week. I am really tired and not sleeping well at night and so when I try to get some work done I find myself falling asleep. And if I try to take a short nap I find myself sleeping 4 hours, or more, then I don't sleep good at night. I think I am in a vicious circle. I love the picture of the little birdies.
-
I had a hellacious day at work today. Still at it. Grrrr. I am stopping soon. Grrrr.
-
BarbA - You need to slow down and take care of yourself. {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}} my dear friend.
-
Thanks, AJ. DH is making steak and I will settle in to read and watch TV when it gets exciting. Ever notice how men can only watch TV and not read? Typical inability to multitask. We are blessed in some ways.
-
BarbA - Enjoy the steak, the book and the TV show. Tell your DH Hi for me and you two enjoy each other. Love you gal pal.

Just want to know if anyone can identify with my thoughts.

My husband has been many times more supportive than I ever expected. We don't were not very sexual before BC. I had double mastectomy and DIEP. The other night he asked me to snuggle. I did but that was all I wanted. I wrote this to express what I was feeling.
Do you know me?
by Brigadoonbenson on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at 11:17pm
Come here you say. Come across the expanse of sheet that never gets dirty and share my blanket.
Come into my arms and let me hold you.
Who are you asking? Are you asking me? I don't recognize me when I look in the mirror, when I dress, when I touch myself. I bind myself with the veil that keeps it all in. All the fear. All the unknown. All the changes I am getting to know.
Will you know that it is me? Will you recognize the me that is part of the changes? The me that never changes? The me that you have known so intimately? Can you tell me if I am still there?
When I make that journey across the white expanse and feel the familiar engulf the new me I begin to feel a little of the old me. The tears come and I wish to know for you, am I still there?
-
brigadoonbenson ~ Oh my gosh, I don't know how to express how powerful that is. I did not have a MX, only a lumpectomy, but my non-bc side is largely indented from a previous surgery of a large cyst & does not look like it used to. This could be me you are writing about - not only the physical, but the changes that have happened on the inside of me, my life outlook, my loss of innocence.
Wow, I'm still rereading it over & over as I write this.
You have touched me with this......
Thank you.
-
Brigadoon that is beautiful - I know how you feel even after 4+ years.
Had a lovely pinot noir with our dinner much to the disgust of my sister. She looked just like our great aunt who was an officer in the Salvation Army- haha but I just don't care. We have given her a home and if she doesn't like our lifestyle then tough. It is a great pinot noir. I have been given a cup of tea - I might drink it but I might not as there ismore in the bottle. I don't often have much to drink but as DH was late home we opened a good bottle.
Just wished DD1 happy birthday, she is in Jersey at present and shortly will head for Guernsey and will celebrate with her brother and his lovely girl friend. she will be home on Sunday.
I must get some work done but don't feel like it at present.
Big hugs
-
Brigadoon, your thought touched me so. I am still pondering what you wrote.
-
Brigadoon, thank you for sharing those very real and true thoughts - 'touching and poignant' is pretty euphemistic, but are the best words I have right now.
-
Brigadoon-Beautiful! I dont have a DH, but I have often wondered about sharing the "new me" with someone. I had a lumpectomy, so my wound is not as startling as a Mx or BMx but there are definite changes. I solve my own dilemma by not allowing myself to get interested or be close to anyone.
-
Brigadoon - I can so identify with the feelings that prompted you to write such a profoundly touching prose. I wondered if my DH would recognize me and which me would he see. Yes, the tears flowed like Niagra, but that was okay with DH. He just held me tight as he could without hurting me. As I was ready in later days we slowly returned to our sexual activites and he tells me the old me, the love of his life is still there, but there is a new me too that is not afraid to say what I need and that pleases him. Our love has grown stronger than ever with all of his gentle caring. {{{{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}}}} and prayers to you dear sister.
-
Brigadoon, that is absolutely haunting. Thank you for sharing it with us. Hugs,
Kathy
