I need your help and input, please.
For one of my classes (speech) I am going to do my 5 minute informational speech on the "pinking of america". I need to have valid sources (no blogs) and statistics for this. I'm looking for ideas on source websites. The professor wants me to give a short background on the pink ribbon, the benefits of the marketing and the drawbacks of the marketing.
For the benefits I want to talk about money raised and spent on breast cancer as opposed to other cancers and for drawbacks I want to talk about marketing gimmicks.
Any ideas on reliable/non slanted websites I can use?

The best web site for research on non-profits' finances is guidestar.org. You can register as a member and it gives you access to the IRS forms that non-profits have to file (990's.) You will be able to get some really good information about how much $ organizations take in and how much they pay out. There is even info on executive pay. You might find that helpful.
Good luck. I, for one, hate all the "pink" and I dread the month of October. But, I do realize that there are so many organizations helping so many people. I am grateful for all that they do.

I know you can't use blogs but you can use blogs as a starting point. Check out Gayle Sulik's blog - she wrote a book called Pink Ribbon Blues. Lots of resources there. http://www.gaylesulik.com.

Try the "Accidental Amazon" blog -- it's full of research on this subject with plenty of supporting statistics. It's also a fun read!

Oh, yeah, I would love to see it when it is done - youtube maybe?
I don't have much to offer in the way of help, but I think you have chosen a great topic. I am very conflicted on the whole pink ribbon thing too.
Best of luck with it!

haha, Kerry, funny on the youtube. I just had to watch my first speech on video. Gosh, I thought the camera only added 10 pounds, lol.
Thanks for the ideas, ladies. I registered for guidestar, but since I just registered for the free service, i wasn't able to see much. I am findng some information on thinkbeforeyoupink.org...but need to find more sources.

Informational speech on the pinking of America is complete and seemed to go over well. I had many people tell me that they learned alot...so that's a good feeling.
Next week's speech is a persuasive speech. I have decided I am going to speak on the medicinal use of marijuana.
Any links you have are welcome.

i think the youtube idea is great - this is awesome you're researching it. i think the pinkwashing campaigns are possibly doing more harm than good.
looking forward to hearing more about this!
