Charley- Great Job! I am so impressed. Sorry it was miserable weather. You are motivating me to improve myself. I've just been dragging along lately. But you and Badger are are good for the soul! Also thanks for the info on the implants. I go on Monday, the 9th. Can't wait.
Badger- Congrats on the jeans. It's a great feeling, isn't it? Of course I wouldn't know as I just bought a size larger! But I'm going to work on that.
Here's to a great day!
Michelle
-
congratulations Charley, great job, here's to persistence and not giving up.
Michelle, thanks and good luck Monday. Is that your exchange surgery?
Lisa, how are you my wonderful sister? Yeshua4me? Toni? Heather?
Gosh if I start naming names I will forget someone ~ {{hugs}} to all
I reached another milestone today ~ 900 miles!!

It seems that we are all visiting this website less frequently and I suppose that's a good sign. I was planning on posting after the Pittsburgh Race for the Cure that will be held in Pittsburgh on Mother's Day but noticed alot of you have posted here lately.
It's great to read that everyone is doing so well.
Badger and Charley you inspire me. I've been trying to walk/run every day but sometimes it just seems so daunting. I am going to print out the last few posting and stick them on my fridge so I can read them every morning and get my a.. on the treadmill.
We were up at Cornell on Wednesday to celebrate our baby's 21st birthday. We had a blast. My girls were laughing at my hair. It is starting to resemble a 'mullet', all business in the front and a party going on in the back. It is so darn curly. Our oldest daughter couldn't stop running her hands through it. Mind you, we all had far too much wine too drink. It was a great celebration and I am so happy I was there to enjoy it with my two wonderful daughters and my fabulous DH. I will post some photos as soon as I get them from my daughter.
My DIEP surgery is scheduled for August 1st. I don't know if you all felt the same but I looking at it as the beginning of the end. I figure by the end of the year, I'll have new boobs, a flat stomach but still have some 'junk in my trunk'!!! OH well, maybe if I run some more I can get rid of that 'junk'....
Wishing each and everyone of you a wonderfully Happy Mother's Day!!!
You are all in my thoughts and prayers daily and of course, in my heart.
Fondly, Heather
-
so good to hear everyone's news. Funny Heather about the mullet -isn't it amazing how much we share - I always thought "business at the front, party at the back" was an Australianism. Here's to celebrations and happy milestones, I had a very happy birthday week last week, and Happy Mother's Day to all you Mum's.
Charley and Badger, you have inspired me to get off my widening arse, and I'm back at the gym, feels good.
Being admitted on Friday for my new tissue expander - I'll let you know how it goes. Not looking forward to being back in hospital as a patient, but looking forward to being almost done with the recon.
love to you all, xxxx
-
LIsa-- hope all went well.
Heather- great to hear from you- I've been really busy but will catch up with you next week.
Happy Mother's Day to All! The weather is bautiful here in NJ today- Sunny and 72 degrees.
Michelle

Checking in... just back from hospital, new tissue expander put in, hopefully all goes to plan and aiming for exchange July/August. I'm heading over to Europe for a conference in late August so hopefully all is done and fixed by then. My supervisor is suggesting I come home via the States, Cleveland Clinic, NY, Texas, so if I do that I'll be giving a call out.
Hope you're all enjoying your Spring, and kicking goals. My other updates, still a little foggy, and flashes have settled quite a bit, but still wake up at least once a night. I'm so pig headed about the value of my tamoxifen, I'm going to hang tough for the 5 years. Next goal, lose the 10kg by the end of the year - 2 kg/month will be my aim -no more chocolate cake
hugs to all xxx
-
HI Lisa, I could've sworn I posted a belated happy birthday / good luck with surgery wish last week but if I did the evidence is gone. Well dang so sorry the thought was there. Thanks for checking in and glad to hear you have your new TE.
If you land anywhere in the continental U.S. I would love to meet you.
I too plan to stick with the tamox the full five. Have lost the chemo weight, now I seem stuck at the weight I was BBC - before breast cancer. My goal is to lose 20 more lbs but if it comes off slowly that's all right.
Another six-month follow-up appt with onc Tuesday. {{hugs}} to all
-
Lisa - Hope you are doing well with the new TE! I'm sticking with the tamox too for at least 5 years. My dr. mentioned there might be some benefit to taking longer although by that point it will probably be armidex. Probably a whole host of new symptoms with that.
I went to a "Pink Lipstick" party last night for a friend who was diagnosed with BC when I was finishing up chemo. She is doing fine but pointed out 5 other women in the room (about 40 women) that had also been diagnosed with BC. Seemed like quite a few but I guess if you think its one in eight ... I know I'm a survivor but lately I haven't been feeling like one ... I've been feeling so normal, like "BBC". (I like that)
Hugs, Charley
-
I love that - BBC - Hopefully once the next surgery is done, I will move more into the BBC zone.
I had 3 therapeutic mini chocolate bars last night - save me from myself LOL
- must ban chocolate from house.
-
Had follow-up appt with onc yesterday, it's all good. Next appt in November.
Unlike my GP, onc does not chide about my weight. Just says to exercise more. No matter how much I do, he says do 15 minutes more each day. When I mentioned what a hard time I was having losing weight on tamox, he said to cut down on carbs. Rats! I love carbs so this will be a challenge. Harder than cutting back on refined sugar..
Registered for the 2011 Komen Madison Race for the Cure which is June 4.
Hope everyone is well - love and {{hugs}}
-
great news on the clear review with onc Badger. .. it is incredibly difficult to cut out carbs, because they are so ingrained into our diets.
Of course, the macadamia pie with kahlua ice-cream I had with lunch yesterday was divine, I just can't say no... LOL
-
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
hi marchers, it's so quiet in the March 2010 thread nowadays, is anyone home? I hope everyone is safe, after your awful tornado season. I saw your President O'bama having a guiness in Ireland, I think he's wonderful, and amazingly steady when so much vitriol is aimed at him. Who'd be a politician?
Had my first fill of the new TE today - be glad when this roundabout is done. Went out after and bought new boots, and some hair products - cheered me up.
Heather, I saw your new avatar picture - look at all that hair girl.
Badger, did I mention, if I end up in the States, I will come find you, up there in Wisconson and we can go out for macadamia pie - it would be so much fun.
Hope everyone is sailing along ok, I think of you all often, xxx
-
Still riding out tornados Lisa!
-
I hope you have a secure bolt hole for you and your family. Stay safe Charley!
-
whew, it's gonna be a long hot summer! These storms are something. There was a tornado in LaCrosse WI this past weekend, however nothing like the damage in Joplin MO. I have family in Texas and my mom lives in Florida. She says the Gulf is already very warm, which does not bode well for hurricane season.
Lisa, for all our talk about painting your house, which crazy me would still dearly love to do, I am in all likelihood never going to make it to Australia. I haven't even been to California yet LOL! So if you get to the states, I will drive my car or hop a plane to meet up with you, in WI or wherever.
Haven't been able to give up carbs all together, but have cut way back and already down a few pounds... maybe there is something to this. Stay safe everyone and be well! {{hugs}} to all
-
far be it from me to dissuade you from painting my house Badger LOL. I am so happy you reminded me of that conversation last year. My house is 110 years old, weatherboard, so when it rains, that plaster cracks, and when it's dry, the plaster cracks. meh.
The way to deal with the flight from USA to Australia, is to break it up. Either a few days in hawaii, or a few days in India or Thailand. I have done the whole journey a couple of times, but no need to stress ourselves, post chemo.
Anyway, the house will eventually get painted. In the meantime, come for a holiday.

well ladies, I hit the thousand-mile mark this morning.
Lisa, I'm 12% of the way there (8,840 miles from Madison to Brisbane) LOL!
I will have the pleasure of meeting several BCO sisters at the RFC next Sat.
Some people don't like Komen but 75% of the money raised stays local and they've done some really good things here. Also, being with ten thousand-plus people and hundreds of survivors is very powerful. Must remember to pack tissues, it's quite the emotional experience. I will walk in honor of my BCO sisters including all of you Marchers.
Love and {{hugs}} to all
-
12,000 participants and 900 survivors this year ~ wow!
Nice day for it, walked through mostly residential neighborhoods and along the lakeshore with a gorgeous view of downtown Madison and the state Capitol. People in the neighborhoods along the route cheered us on and several kind souls ran their sprinklers for us to cool off with. It was hot and sunny, so we enjoyed the shady streets.
I am doing well, not just surviving but thriving; I wish the same for all of you. {{hugs}}
-
Way to go Badger! 12k is huge! Hot and sunny and HUMID here in Okla. Ran 7 miles today ... at 7am which was not nearly early enough. Thriving here as well. Keep up the walking ... I need to look at my miles and see where I am.
Hugs
Charley
-
well done Badger, and Charley. It's chilly here and windy, but a still place in the sun is sublime. Went to the local Farmers' markets yesterday, and bought some beautiful food. Must go to gym today, to balance all the feasting to come. My mother is going to be over in the States in a couple of days, for a huge tour for four weeks. She's one strong woman, doing it on a tour but on her own. Look after her America
Hugs to all, hope all are going ok xxx
-
hey Lisa, whereabouts is your mom headed? Happy to have her here for part of her grand tour. I hope she has smooth sailing, good weather and fun times. {{hugs}}
p.s. I found out my MIL will be 79 in August - wow - she walked the 5K with me and my SIL!
-
Haven't checked in lately. I've been so busy planning a surprise 75th for my mother and then driving up to Northern Ontario with all of the decorations, cupcake towers, linens etc. It was great. This was the first time she has had all of her 8 grandchildren together. I then drove down to Ithaca to help our daughter move out of her apartment. My DH is on the verge of another major shoulder operation so he wasn't able to help. SO, we packed up the car and I mean, packed it from the roof to the floor and drove two more hours (12 hours in all that day) then got back to Pittsburgh the next day.
Since then, I've spent a solid week looking for a spot for our daugther to live in Boston while she does an internship. OMG, Boston is so expensive compared to Pittsburgh. We got her packed and on the plane yesterday. Miss her already...
It's really nice not having to talk cancer all of the time.
SO, it is now time to take care of me. I don't know that I'll be running a 12K but I'm going to try to run. I also wanted to ask if any of you have read the new Sheryl Crowe recipe book that focuses on anti-cancer recipes and food. I need to focus my efforts on prevention and am in definite need of advice on nutrition. We have access to one at our hospital but just thought I'd throw it out to you gals.
Have a great Monday. Fondly, Heather
-
Badger, Mum's going everywhere man! From NY to LA and lots of stops in between. I've told her, if she gets into trouble, I'll call out for some help from the BCO boards
She's 69 turning 70 later this year, and had her own journey last year (WLE and XRT). I'm very proud of her.
Heather, sounds like you've been doing lots - I'm glad you'll get a chance to have some me time. Lots of fresh foods, decrease processed foods - veges, and fruit - again fresh - decrease the carbs - keep weight down as much as you can. Laugh out loud. Feel the wind and smell the earth. Hug the people and animals you love. Enjoy today.
That is all. Love to you girls xxx
-
Glad to hear things are going relatively well for all of you. Just had my 3-month check up and I'm thankfully NED (no evidence of disease). I hope to remain that way for a long time. Now I'm working on the weight loss journey -- down 14 so to just below my pre-chemo weight. Another 15 to go.
-
OK it's been three days and all's quiet so Lisa's mum must be staying out of trouble. :-)
Wicked storms rolled through last night and cooled it off 30 degrees in an hour. We went from 95 when it started around 7pm to 65 when it ended around 8pm. Took the mugginess with it thank you very much, but some places had tennis ball sized hail - yikes - not here TG!
congrats frosty, I'm working on 15 lb myself. It's tough, but so am I, and persistent to boot.
Heather, I've heard about but haven't read Sheryl Crow's new book. I read Anti-Cancer: A New Way of Life and got a lot out of it. My brother is a diabetic who swears by the glycemic index. I'm just trying to eat less food but better, more fruits and veggies, fewer carbs, no refined sugar, etc.. drink lots of water, and exercise at least a half-hour every day.
sounds like stuff my mom used to say, that my doc says now LOL! {{hugs}} to all
-
LOL Badger. Mum's texting me every day - unfortunately that seems to be around 2am every day
She is currently in New York City - the next states are VA,ONT, MI,IL,MN,SD.WY.MT.UT.Grand Canyon, NV,CA. Oh my god. She's going to need a holiday after that - it's a bus tour. Can you just imagine the slide shows to come?
Frosty - well done you - another person to admire for the ability to choose the right food and exercise - I will do it, soon.
Hugs to all xxx
-
LOL Lisa, thank goodness for digital cameras or you'd be up to your knees in photos.
If memory serves, you're 14 or 15 hours ahead of us. So what's waking you up at 2:00 a.m. was being sent at noon.. yesterday.. right? ... or is that chemo-brain-think? ack!
{{hugs}} to all
-
I know Badger, the zone thing is wacky. We are 14 hours ahead of NY, so currently it's 2.45pm and there you are (hopefully) asleep at 12.45am this morning LOL. I've never been much good with Mum's holiday snaps - but she makes a damn fine roast lamb, so I'll put up with one night of it.
Big hello out to the March girls - some are very quiet these days - Tony, Lily, Ana. Hope everyone is well, and the hair is growing better each day. I still feel like a clown with my hair, but attack it with products when I need to be presentable. I also have the occasional aches particularly in my left hip, but it goes away so I'm putting it down to low oestrogen/tamoxifen, and ignoring it.
Badger, 12.5 miles to go! Why did you you pick 1100 miles?
((march girls)) Lisa
-
Lisa, my first goal was 500 miles, based on a song I like by The Proclaimers. Do you know it? I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).
When I was getting close to 500, I sort of bragged about it to my onc. He challenged me to increase my goal, so I did, to 600 miles.
500 + 600 = 1100
I only need 6.8 miles to hit 1100, maybe tomorrow? Then I'll set a new goal of 2000.
Can you tell I like numbers?
