    Hummingbird checking in:

Friday check in = 3 points

Weight down 1lb to 141 = 2 points ( lowest I've been since college I think?? In size 8 now.)  I think I have to attribute the weight loss to the stopping sugar or at least eating less of it.   My exercise routine is pretty much the same as before.   I eat almonds and dark chocolate for snacks and much less frozen yogurt than I used to eat.

    Water = 7 points

Exercise = 8 points ( need to do better here)

Extra credit = 1 point ( 3 month MO visit this week.  All is fine. 1st mammo after diagnosis next month - ugh!)

    Total = 21 points

i have been in a funk lately, not sure if it is the LE flaring, my recent cancerversary (dx'd 5-15-09), work stresses or just plain depression.  Nice thing is I my just not hungry right now...if I would only make better choices as to what I put in my mouth I just might lose weight, only thing is my 'give a damn' is busted!

    Roadrunner checking in

Maintain from last week = 1 point

    Exercise = 15 points

    Friday check-in = 3 points

    Daily water = 7 points

Extra credit = 1 point ~ don't think I took a point yet for registering for the 2011 Komen Madison Race for the Cure, which is Sat June 4.  I know some don't like Komen but 75% of the money raised stays local and they've done some good things.  For example, sponsoring a Yoga for BC Survivors class I attended last year, that got me started in yoga (which I love).  Plus there's something about being with ten thousand plus people and hundreds of survivors that's very powerful.

    Total = 27 points

p.s. hey NM, congrats on your new state symbol, it made Bloomberg news!

OK everyone, I think I should justify why I gave myself extra credit point for the swimwear purchase: it was very good for my mental health and encourages me to actually get into the pool!

Michelle, I am so sorry you are having a tough time. I have not yet come to my first cancerversary, and have no idea what to expect of myself.  Seems like you have multiple reasons to be a bit down, so I am sending you extra positive vibes and lovingkindness tonight.  You ARE loved!  Please be kind to yourself this weekend.

It's been a busy couple of weeks, but I'm finally checking in for the Roadrunners.  I definitely did much better with the weight and exercise than I did the last time we spent time in North Carolina.  This is the last trip down there that we will be spending more than a night or two in a motel, and eating out every day.  The next trip we get to stay in the new house once we close on it.

    Friday check in 3 points

weight stayed the same at 188.6 for 1 point

    water 7 points

Exercise 14 points  I'm only counting the hours I logged swimming, or walking to exercise.  There was a whole lot of walking and standing involved in house hunting, but I don't think it qualifies as exercise.

Extra credit - if Linda gets a point for buying a swimsuit, can I get one for buying a house with a swimming pool and an exercise room that will definitely inspire me to exercise?  1 point

Michelle. What do you need to hear?

Yesterday when I read your plea with the phrase "my give-a-damn' broke" I had such a knowing smile. I didn't exactly laugh-out-loud, but I really lit up -- from the inside out. I had never heard that phrase before and thank you for sharing it here. The phrase is so totally descriptive and accurate.

Two days ago I was in a zip out the front door, balancing car keys, cell phone & camera, while attempting to close the front door, my camera bounced outta my hands and took a header onto the sidewalk below.

    ARGGGGGH.

Not sure which is worse to break, my camera or my give-a-damn, but it's really gotten me to thinking. About repairing and about shopping for a new model.

Perhaps you need a whole new 'give-a-damn' and just suck it up & spend a little on yourself and get the new & improved model? That's what I'm thinkin' about my camera.

It costs about half to repair as to replace.

All too often I think we tinker around attempting to fix the bits that are broken.

Periodically I think we've just gotta dig deep and replace it.

Here's how to replace your 'give-a-damn' with the new & improved.

    1. Laugh more!!

    2. Buy yourself some flowers.

    3. Take a look through your pictures & photo albums of happy times.

    4. Know that little efforts really do add up.

    5. Feel the support of your sisters here

    6. Go dancing.

    7. Read your tattoo.

    8. Drink some water. (Being dehydrated allows the emotions to wallow.)

    9. Write a letter to someone & say thanks.

    10. Take a nap.

You are loved. You've truly been through a LOT. You're putting one foot in front of the other.

    I'm so proud of you!!!

    xx00xx00xx00xx00xx

Faithie, I think what you posed should be "posted" on the mirror in every woman's bathroom! First thing we see each morning... Sometimes this damn BC gets into our minds and takes hold.

Moving more helps, drinking more helps, buying flowers helps... friends priceless!

Val jean you always make me laugh even when I'm down.  I am with you I don't like the weight I'm at and i need to get back on the wagon seriously.  As for a nutritionist there are none of those in the small town we live in.  It is a weight loss clinic or you are on your own.  I've tried both and when I come off the weight loss clinic I simply can't do it.  It was easy last yr going to the medical wt loss but this yr not so much.  Love to all of you.

Roadrunner dragggin her sorry tail in to report, feathers dusty and bedraggled.  Can I get 1 pt for showing up at all?

I'm not sure where I am at weight - forgot to go to the gym and weigh.  Dr's office (with shoes on, but probably close), showed me up 1.5.  I am not happy.  Came home and had a salad for dinner while everyone else had burritos.

    0 pts for weight

I did get 5 pts worth of exercise in.  And by the way, Valjean, isn't falling down an exercise? (if you keep picking yourself up, that is)  I'm supposed to be doing PT exercises twice a day; I'm lucky if I can get them done once.  And except for crunches, they're more stretches than exercises.  I do count the dog walks and yardwork.

Water - I think I got all 7 pts - I may have been a bit short once.

12 pts, maybe 13 if ya'll are feeling generous.

I'm so proud of everyone who is making strides - impressive exercise points, buying swimsuits, buying houses with tempting activity areas, cutting back on sugar, going to the dentist (yikes!), signing up for the race!   I'm impressed and you help inspire me to greater strides.  I really do think of my sister birdies when I go shopping (so I buy healthier foods), when I'm compelled to eat sweets (so I eat less), when I haven't exercised (so I do).  I may still be struggling, but you do help me.  Thanks to you all,

    Elaine

    Hi All,

Add me to the "out-the-wagon" list.

I had a terrible week. I have been dragging an eye infection for over a month. I didn't think it was an infection because what bothered me was a spot in my vision. There were no exterior signs of infection. A doctor gave me some drops that did not help and I was sure it was mets. It took me a while to get to another specialist who explained how I should administer the same drops. He also says it is a mild infection.

I'm normally a pretty rational person, but I have to acknowledge this whole BC experience as the trauma that it is. I was pretty sure it was mets.

So I let the wagon pass me by a little. I'm getting back up.

Special appologies to my team for not adding my points.

    Faith, your list is beautiful!

    My points for this week:

    Water: 7 points

    Exercise: 5 points.

I don't have the heart to check my weight. I'll think about it tomorrow...

    11 points total.

    Clari

MaiTai--we all think mets first and don't think about the "usual" stuff that we can have happen, like bronchitis ( I thought I had lung mets), sinus infections (thought I had brain mets), arthritis (thought I had bone mets).   Thank God my PCP is a patient and understanding woman.  She keeps telling me that people with cancer are far more likely to get the "usual stuff" than to have a met, statistically.  Of course, we all know about "statistically," don't we?

Thx NM for helping me feel normal.

We sure know about statistics. That is why when my onc, advised against BMX because statistically I had "only" 16% chance for BC in the healthy breast - I ran to look for the BS that would take it offTongue out

LOL, NativeM, and I am only laughing in retrospect.  We all have our B/C paranoia whenever we get any kind of symptom.  That's the "new normal" for ya!

elimar--it is funny in retrospect. Is it really paranoia if the risk is real????  And don't forget, even a paranoid person is right occasionally!

Michelle, I hope you are doing better this week. I agree that you need to get yourself some flowers (if not allergic), put on some happy music (jazz, rock&roll, Jamaican, - NOT blues or chamber music!), have a noncaloric beverage (coffee, tea, water with a teaspoon of lemon or lime juice), and look out the window or sit on the porch, just being in that moment, thinking only of that moment and those who love you. And then get back to us so we can listen or just be there with you.

Elaine, what can we do to help you do those PT exercises every day? I had been doing well, but am so tempted to not go to my classes this week because I have out-of-town guests coming today.... need to either go to class or find another way to get that exercise in!

Thanks everyone for your great sense of humor here! Belly laughs are another excellent healthy behaivor! Laughing

(((faithie)))  thank you for the encouragement - I would love to hear there is a cure for cancer Laughing

I am a little stressed because my right leg, knee and hip have been aching for the last three weeks, a kind of deep bone and joint ache, of course my mind goes to the dark side...

Finances are shaky so I a dread talking to the onc, I'll either get blown off or she want tests and I am not sure which would be more stressful...

My best friend  of 21 years, Tanya, died on April 26th and no one called me...I found out when I called her home number and the phone was disconnected, checked obit's no record, hunted down her estranged father in TX and after he asked me 'who are you?' was told in a complete monotone that my BF had died 'several weeks ago'  and her mom is terminally ill.  He says he will 'try' and get a message to her mom... Tanya would have been 41 in August

    Hi Birdies,

Just getting caught up with everyone.  So sorry I've been MIA.  Loved the cruise with Mum but have been so busy at work and then no internet access this weekend due to storm/tornado that blew out the cable and internet that am just now getting back to my friends here.  I do believe I must have gained 10 pounds on the cruise but now am back to my better eating habits and moving more.  Good luck to everyone this week.

Michelle, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your BF. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

(((Michelle))) I'm so sorry about your friend.

Regarding the pain, we all know what is going through your mind. Will you be able to relax if you don't go to the doctor? I wasn't able to forget about it until the specialist told me the problem with my eye was an infection.

MaiTai - I have been kinda ignoring the pain for about a month. At first my knee was hurting (thought it was just the added strain of these extra lbs)  Now my entire leg from hip to toe hurts, not bad maybe a 5 out of 10, but pretty constant and annoying. I am thinking I should f/u soon.  Next appt with onc is in July.  Until then I will have a thermography scan and meet with a new naturapath that was recommended for fatigue and thyroid issues...
