Mammaprint
Hello All,
I'm newly diagnosed, but have been high risk for 10 years. In 2001, I had a biopsy that found atypical cells and was on tamoxifen for 5 years.
It didn't keep BC away & now in 2011 I have Invasive Ductal. Results of lumpectomy were all good. Stage 1, nothing in the lymph nodes, very small tumor. BUT my Mammaprint shows "high risk" and I must admit that my surgical oncologist sounded like he was selling me on Chemo.
I meet my med oncologist later this month. She treated me during my 5 years of tamoxifen. I make the chemo & radiation vs. just radiation decision with her.
Anyone out there have any knowledge of Mammaprint?

From what my onc tells me is that the test is used to determine your risk for distant recurrence. I believe it's supposed to do a more thorough test of the genetic aspect and the molecules of the tumor. It's only useful for early cancers and is supposed to help the oncologist to be more individual with the treatment by being able to rate the risk of recurrence as either high or low.... no in betweens. They use these results to make a more tailored treatment plan. This can also be used to keep some people from getting too far aggressive treatments when they may not need so much therefore helping some to avoid unnecessary side effects of chemo and radiation. I'm not sure how many doctors actually perform this test routinely, but I personally think it's a great idea. Because I'm stage 3C triple negative, my onc couldn't do this test on me.
It just totally sux big ones that you have to battle this all over again. But, I'm glad that your onc was able to perform this test for you. Maybe by doing so, she will be able to design a treatment plan that works the best for YOU and you particular dynamics. Lots of good wishes speeding your way!!

Thanks for your comments & support. Every day I go back and forth on the chemo decision. I just don't know.
It also seems that most women on this site got the oncotype test. That makes me wonder if my surgeon was "selling" me. It just felt that way. Afterall it does bring $$ to a hospital if I take more treatment than less. I hate to be pessimestic, but it is a reality.

hnl90. I know my BS really wanted the MammaPrint test done, but insurance said no so did the Oncotype test instead. Now they are fighting paying that one as well. My BS felt the MammaPrint test was much better for some reason.
