Met a woman today at the library. She was dx with Stage III BC with many positive nodes 29 years ago at age 32. She first felt lump at 30 but drs told her she was too young to have bc. She insisted and at age 32 had a mastectomy, no recon. Did weekly chemo for 9 months!

She has never had a recurrence and is doing well.

Just had to share!

Annie, Thanks for sharing this...I needed to read  this today.  And...you can meet the most interesting people at the library.  It's one reason  I continue to go there and usually resist the temptation to buy and download books on the IPad.       Molly

This is great to hear.  My cousin had a 5cm tumor 26 yrs ago. Dr said it was nothing. The next year she told him she wanted it out. She had biopsy during surgery and it was positive for BC. She had MX no reconstruction.  Was stage III, hormone positive, no node involvement.  Did chemo every other week for a year and 5 years of tamoxifen. Cousin is on mothers side.

Twenty years ago my Aunt had 3cm, 13 pos. nodes, hormone negative, MX no reconstruction and 4 AC treatments. The Dr told her it was "wildfire cancer".  Grew within a year.  Now has heart problems from the AC treatments. Aunt is on fathers side.

Both are still alive and healthy watching their grandchildren grow.  I am going to be one of those old ladies with wrinkles from all the laughter and not from worries.

Thanks for this! My mom is approaching her 10 year mark after stage 3cancer as well. I don't recall the specs except that it was stage3 and there were definitely nodes involved. She's doing great after a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation, 5 years on Tamoxifen and the last 4+ on Fermara. I've been worrying myself about what happens when she's finished with the meds this year...you know, in case they are keeping things at bay. (Is that even how these meds work??)

Sharing survivor stories definitely gives us all hope :)
