I haven't been here in a couple of days--a busy weekend with 101 Dalmations and DH's birthday.  The play was absolutely wonderful---all 72 doggies, etc, 4th and 5th graders.  Over the 2 nights we had about 650 people there total.  Don't think anybody expected that many, but the place was packed both nights.  It was in our church's family life center and we'd put out 300 chairs, then had to get more.  The kids did a fantastic job--everyone knew the words, no flubs at all, and the costumes were so cute---chihuahuas with sombreros, boxers with "do-rags" and boxing gloves, poodles with pink fluffy ears, and of course all the dalmations with spots!  DD did an amazing job with those kids and I'm so proud of her!  Now she can breathe again.

Amy Jo, I went to Lowe's yesterday looking for a plant for DH's birthday and I got some Indian hawthorn, and then I got on here and saw your post. It was so sweet of you to offer to bring me some!  Especially when it's a 3 hr + drive between Raleigh and Monroe.

Another thing I got for DH is a hat with hair, since it's been so long since he's had any!  It's really cute, black visor with gray hair, and I got a baby visor with blond hair for DGS.  They'll be a hoot taking their morning walks through the neighborhood--DGS sorta looks like Food Network's Guy Fieri (sp?).

Barbara, looks like y'all had a great time, especially that dessert!!

Marybe, it's good to see you back here.  Now both your cataracts are done!

Kathy - What is a 3+ hour drive in NC?  One direction and I am in the mountains and the other I am at the beach!  I do hope we can meet some day since we live in the same state.  At least NC is not as big as TX.  The hats sound like a fun idea for your DH and DGS, please take a picture to share!

Barb - If I was going to have something like that for dessert, I would have to eat it first! Then take my dinner home for later.  There is no way that dessert would last if I took it home. DH would have it eaten by the time I got out of the car!  So glad you had a wonderful time.

Isabella - Love the idea of the bracelets to mark the anniversary, I think I will have to do a charm bracelet and just add a new charm every year.  July 20th will be 1 year for me.

Hope everyone has a great week. I may not be on for a few days as I will be running away for a girls mini vacation before my next treatment on Friday.  I plan on having fun hanging out with a girl friend for a few days.

    Joy and blessing,

    Amy Jo

    Okay, I'm gonna ask:

What is Eton Mess?!? It looks absolutely delicious! I've never heard of it.

It is traditionally whipped cream,  broken up meringues and strawberries and said to have been made at Eton School. It was often made for tea at cricket matches between school teams. I have had versions with lots of different things in it such as marshmellows or various fruit but whatever its lovely and decadant. For adults you can add liquor.

Have been watching the news about Bin Laden, well done USA

I think it is very good when our Commander and Chief is intimately involved with and familiar with each detail of the mission and sits right there while the mission is being run.  And on a day that he had so much to do concerning the other problems in this country.  I hope we are able to parlay this into some reality about who are friends are and who have been or enemies all along...

A great bravery and technique was evident last night.  That kind of bravery and courage shows up on this battlefield every day.  Each post it the story of a warrior.  I picture each one in warrior pose claiming power and dominion over every day.  You   could all do this because you have to..  There are many survival techniques to use out there but courage, laughter and  informed pro action.  are the greatest of these.

My nephew is a student at the Naval Academy, and my brother said they were celebrating all night! Those students work soooo hard, they work on perfection in all things. They should be very proud, of themselves and the alumni who preceded them. GO NAVY!

I listened to Mr Brennan's press conference and what I heard was 45 minutes of campaign rhetoric. I am not alone in that opinion.

That said, here's to our brave members of the armed forces. They deserve the credit since they did the job.

The words of one of my heros sums up how I feel about the death of Bin Laden ...

I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." -Martin Luther King Jr.

I keep hearing praises and prayers lifted up regarding the killing of Bin Laden.  My thoughts, for what they are worth ...

If folks want to quote Bible scripture, wasn't there also some little commandment about Thou Shall Not Kill? So very many things that I think are wrong are justified and/or praised in the name of religion, be it a religion based on the Christian's God or the Muslim's Allah or whatever name the "cult" chooses. It just frustrates and confuses me! All of it makes me even more certain of my beliefs. I'll be quiet now.

I, too, was appalled at the celebrations in the street yet some small part of me wanted to participate. For that I am ashamed.

Barbara - I am still heartbroken by how many lives were lost and how many loved ones were left behind to suffer the loss after 9/11.  It is understandable, to me, that there is a feeling of justice in Bin Laden's death.

By the way, I was just told that the quote I posted from MLK Jr. is not a true quote.  It is circulating the Internet.  Nonetheless, it still speaks to how I feel about the situation.

The quote is great regardless of who said it. I lost friends in the DC crash and it still hurts.

    Hatred is a Hydra

but I'm certainly not sorry that evil one is gone.

and yet, I was glad my DD was visiting NY this week.

And take such pride in our armed forces.

BarbA, I went to 3rd grade at Tampa somewhere (too many schools in my childhood to count); Dad was stationed there - is it McDill?.... I remember our neighbor's banyan tree with fondness - we had a lot of Tarzan games in it. These days, I'm eyeballing one of our oaks with an eye to a treehouse-retreat.

L_C, yes, it is McDill AFB, home to CentCom. Beautiful place, right on the water with endless views. Nice golf course, too.

Oh, L_C, let me know when you get the treehouse done. I would love to come hang out with you in there. Here is a banyan in Hugh Taylor Birch State Park in Fort Lauderdale. Cool place right in the city and right on the beach.

Oh BarbA, thanks much. That brings back memories. The neighbors had a koi pond 'neath their banyan tree - our imaginations could work overtime with those two props.  Thanks for the memory!

Barbara, I think what most of us are feeling is just a surge of patriotism and pride for our boys' job well-done.

Bec - they do it for freedom, not Christianity.

There's a winery here where they actually have a treehouse that can be rented by the night.
