Hi,

Please bear with me, new to this site and the daughter of your newest club member. Everything is so overwhelming.

My Mom was diagnosed with Stage 2 IDC. She just underwent a mastectomy of her left breast. Her tumor was 2cm. ER+ Pr+ Hr2-. 1 of 12 lymph nodes removed showed cancer.

We are set to do chemo next, however the Dr. is suggesting a new clinical study for the use of Herceptin in Hr2 negative women. My Mom is very afraid of these side effects.

Are there any women who have participated/or are participating in this study group?

Thank you so much for sharing your information and your stories...

I am under the impression that Herceptin is used only when the HERS 2 score is positive.  I have been on Herceptin since last Aug. and have no issues or complaints with it.  If your mom read all the SE on all the possible chemo and aromatase inhibitors she would frozen in one place afraid to do anything.

Personally, I was not an eager or overly willing patient and tried to seek different ways we could possibly approach the whole "chemo thing" but after my onco sent my path. slides from the surgery out to have the Oncotype DX test done, I had no choice but to do Taxotere, Carboplatin, and Herceptin plus now on Femara (a pill).

I have no experience in trail studies.  Why not seek out a second opinion?  Make certain that any onco dr you chose will take the time to answer any and all questions you OR your mother my have.  Someone should go with her & take notes.......I found that to be very helpful.

Good thoughts & prayers going out for you & your mother.
