I thought that James Muse song, Uprising, was wonderful. I replayed it several times and I rarely do that. I wonder if James Tourettes syndrome may cause him to show more emotion. The other guys know what a great voice Stefano has and possibl wondering, "why him, and not me?" I personally don't care for Stefanos style, a bit Rat Pack I think.

What I am amazed at though is Scotty's huge, huge, huge popularity week after week. I go look at Dial Idol and it shows Scotty as first ranked by huge margins. Who is voting so much for him? Teen aged girls? I don't find him all that appealing. Of course I am no where near being a teenaged girl.

I too was a huge Adam Lambert fan being an old musical theatre geek. :)

Ginger, I agree about Adam, and he's such a  terrific performer (in addition to being an amazing singer).  It's going to be hard for anyone to measure up to the standard he set.  I also agree about being puzzled about Scotty's huge following.  I understand some people really like him, but he has plenty of flaws, and he's so one-note, that it makes you wonder who's voting for him -- and how often.  It's unfortunate that it's not one person, one vote.

Next week:  songs by Carole King.  I like her music but it seems like an unusual choice for a theme but I've thought that more than once this season.  At least I'll recognize the songs :)

Crystal Bowersox will be on, along with Bruno Mars.  I loved Crystal so I'm looking forward to that.

Ladies.............I love Scotty, and guess what, I'm an almost (Sunday birthday) 76 year old great-grandmother (haha), so it may not be the "teenie boppers" who are voting for him...........however, I have not voted yet..tried a couple times, and got annoyed  that my vote wouldn't take..............I think he has that cute, adorable, little boy, grandson look........ok, ladies stop laughingUndecided, Of course I love country music too, so that could be part of it.

I agree with the 1 vote thing............and I think Scotty, and Lauren are great together...........

Love James, just don't like songs I don't recognize, and don't know what the hell is being said, but he is very good..............and a genuinelly nice person..............ok, is that the "old lady" opinion coming through again.

No, it can't be, cause I love Adam Lambert, and I saw his "new look" today, and this boy is "gorgeous"...............Next week should be interesting......................

naughtty:  sorry about spilling the beans...forgot about our friends in midwest and west coast.

Funny how you miss NJ.. there is so much wrong with this state but your right,, i would miss it too if I had to leave.  I have a house in long beach island and someday soon hope to open it up. Last summer was on chemo so I rarely went down... This summer I am planning on sitting on my deck at 4pm with margarita watching the sun go down.  I am on lagoon so it is really peaceful.. Now if only the weather would cooperate here and stop raining I could get to shore house to open it up...

AI:  I liked adam lambert as well..could not believe he lost either.  .But let us not forget Taylor "mr soul train himself" who won idol that year....That was the biggest shocker....

I LOVED Adam Lambert and was shocked when he didn't win. I don't even remember who won that year. He was very forgettable. Since then I don't trust the voting system because it can be manipulated. I think next week Jacob will go. I predict James will win and it will be James and Lauren in the final.

You can vote using the phone... which is easier than figuring out the dumb on line voting thing (and anyway I am not interested in voting via facebook).

Someone posted that Scotty has been topping the voting .. can anyone post a link to where this info is available?  I'm interested in seeing other numbers.... thanks!

Lilah, there are polls that various companies initiate, but to the best of my knowledge they don't release the actual results of the voting.  I think the polls may not be an accurate reflection of the voting except in a general way, because, as noted before, people can vote on AI multiple times for the same person or for multiple people.

Ducky, the reason I said the teenies are controlling the voting is because that's what I keep reading over and over -- that "young girls" and to a lesser extent "housewives" are the main voters.  How they know this, I don't know :)  Certainly people of all ages and both sexes vote, but it seems to be the young girls (teens and pre-teens) who do most of the voting.  BTW, have a great  birthday!

hrf, I can't remember who won the year Adam was on, either, except that he seemed really surprised when he won :)  I think he was one of those quiet kids but for the life of me I don't remember his name.

I agree about Hayley's outfit. I kept staying at it thinking, "I'm no fashionista, but does that MATCH?"

The thing I think about Scotty is that he is SO YOUNG - if/when he progresses in the music industry, they will work with him (I think/I hope) to smooth out the wiggly eyebrows, tilting head, grimacing stuff.

I thought the Katy Perry thing was absolutely awful/unwatchable. BUT I come from a time when rock stars just STOOD there and sang and played. I never have appreciated the whole visual element with the constumes and choreography. To me, it distracts from the music.  But hey, I'm old, right? I'm not the one they are targeting with this stuff. (But then, if Iggy was aimed at me, THAT surely didn't work either! Laughing )

I am curious if people vote for the person they are a fan of, from week to week, no matter what, or if they change their vote depending on the week's performances. Do they release the numbers of the vote totals anywhere so we can know what the order is of the ones who are safe? Or is that dial idol site the only gauge?

I loved Carol King. The place I went for the summers growing up  was the same place her daughters went - the grandparents owned a house there. That was in the early 70's (when Tapestry was HUGE) and the girls were early teens.  They know how to play the beginning bars of a few James Taylor songs - having been taught by JT himself. We thought that was SO COOOOOOL!!! Should be an interesting week.

Re Katy Perry:  Not much better than Iggy.  I am so thankful for PVRs.  I make it through that 1 hour show in less than 10 minutes!

I can't wait until Carol King week either.  Should be interesting to see what James, Casey and Scotty do with that.  Should be a perfect week for Haley. I hope Lauren steps it up and puts some feeling into the song.  Good luck for Jacob.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but was Katy Perry lip-synching?  I thought so, but my kids didn't agree with me.  To me, it just didn't seem like live singing.

I agree that Katy Perry was awful. I was dumbfounded by the awful song and awful performance. What was she thinking of?

I don't think Katy Perry is a singer, just a performer, and on the rare occassions when I've watched her I always feel like she's saying "look at me, look at me!"  Sherrill, I didn't notice about lip-synching but I wasn't watching too closely -- but I know it at least used to be common on TV show singing -- so it could have been.

Amy, I don't think it's our age when it comes to those performances -- some rock musicians used to put on shows -- but they also sang well (well, most of them) and often had outrageously good musicians, lyrics, and music.  Katy lacked most of those last night.  But I agree, special effects and staging can be overdone and really detract from the singing.  Which may be why some do it (ouch!  I'm mean today!).  It's like going to a movie that's all special effects with little plot or acting -- some people love that but I'd rather skip the effects and have a good story.

Also, I don't think AI ever releases stats on numbers of votes for each contestants, but if anyone knows otherwise I'd like to see the stats... all I can ever find are outside polls.

OK -- back to real life for the next 6 days :)

Sherrill. I was watching closely and I thought she was lip-synching even though she had a mic on.

Kris Allen is the guy who beat Adam.  I too was shocked.  He was and is an innocuous performer with a pleasant voice.  I can't imagine why people would have chosen him over Adam -- who was quite often electrifying in his performances.

dsil--I saw David Cook in concert when he came to my hometown a few years ago--he was great, but his band played way too loud--I would've liked to have heard his voice more than there playing!

seyla---stefano has always reminded me of David Archuleta--right down to keeping his eyes closed! (I liked him a lot, but I knew he would go last night).

I still think Lauren should win (we haven't had a female AI winner in 4 years--come on ladies!)--she's incredibly talented--reminds me so much of Carrie Underwood. But I bet it will end up being James--he's very good, I just don't like all that screaming. I always feel he's trying to hard to be another Adam Lambert, and no one can even come close to Adam!

I can only think of one Stefano performance that I really liked. But he might do well internationally. He always felt like a cruise ship singer to me. Or maybe Broadway. I actually think Naima could be great on Broadway with her dancing.

I keep rooting for Jacob. Don't think he will win, but I root for him.

I actually think Hailey has a more unique voice than Lauren. When she's good she's good.

I wish Lauren had waited one more year. She might have won.

I go back and forth on Casey, this week not my fave.

    Maybe James wins.

I do think Scotty is talented, and I actually didn't quite agree with the judges, but he can come off insincere. Still like that voice though. LOVED it when he did the Elvis song.

I could be WRONG but I am guessing Scotty and James are final two.

Teka -- you are probably right.  Sad, really.  Because who cares? (I don't)  He's just such a great performer.  Ah well -- he is having a career anyway and doing better than Kris overall.

Hi Ladies, here I am again still rooting for Scotty.............He is so friggin cute, and I think that little flirty thing he does with his smile, and eyebrows is adorable........He is just so clean cut, which is so rare in music today........it is refreshing to see someone with combed hair, sensible clothes, and not pierced all over, and finger rings galore..........He's my American Idol whether he wins or not.......I just think he is all about what America stands for.  A good ole american boy.

Said this earlier, love James the person........he is so sweet, not crazy about his choice in music, but I do think he has so much talent, and can really sing, and I give him credit for not letting his Tourettes hold him back......just an all around nice guy.

Let's see what happens next week.

My older 3 were 70' kids, and in High school.................they would have too, and I think I actually got rid of a lot of their albums of all those musicians when I downsized.  they were long gone, and was sure they would not have wanted them.........all were Married with Children when I moved from my home after my husband died...............you must be about their age.

Here are the lyrics to Uprising, the song that James Durbin performed. The message spoke to me.

The paranoia is in bloom, the PR
Transmissions will resume, they'll try to
Push drugs, keep us all dumb down and hope that
We will never see the truth around,

    so come on

    Another promise, another scene, another
Package not to keep us trapped in greed with all the
Green belts wrapped around our minds and endless
Red tape to keep the truth confined,

    so come on

    They will not force us
And they will stop degrading us
And they will not control us
    We will be victorious,

    so come on

Interchanging mind control, come let the
Revolution take its toll, if you could
Flick a switch and open your third eye, you'd see that
We should never be afraid to die,

    so come on

Rise up and take the power back, it's time that
The fat cats had a heart attack, you know that
Their time is coming to an end, we have to
Unify and watch our flag ascend,

    so come on

    They will not force us
    They will stop degrading us
    They will not control us
    We will be victorious,

    so come on

    (Hey, hey, hey, hey
    Hey, hey, hey, hey
    Hey, hey, hey, hey

    They will not force us
    They will stop degrading us
    They will not control us
We will be victorious, so come on

    Hey, hey, hey, hey)

I think these last two stanzas were omitted due to the 1 min 30 sec limit.
