Kind of down today
Twenty five years ago today I lost my mom to BC, and today I am fighting the same beast. I know things have improved over the last 25 years but I still worry that mom only made it 5 years after she was DX. I am just having a down day

nwest125,
Sorry you are having a down day. I don't think there is one of us who do not have the same struggles. I see your stats are very good (we know there are no guarentees, but odds in your favor). I am guessing from the dates you have completed most of the heavy treatment, chemo and surgery. I am sure that the anniversity of your loss is heavy on your mind today also. Be good to yourself, looks like from your picture you have your own little girl and I am sure you will be around along time for her. When I am down I spend extra time with my DH and boys, really puts things in prospective. Hugs your way! I am sure your mom is smiling down on you today.

thank you, that is my grandaughter in the pic with me, she has been my medicine thru all of this.

I was just diagnosed with BC stage 2. Have been to different doctors for consultation prior to surgery. I am very scared because I am alone. My kids distanced themselves from me not wanting to be responsible for me. I feel alone and sad but am trying to be strong and positive. The most difficult part is I don't drive but I have many supportive and loving friends who take turns driving me to the medical offices or facilities.

JGrace I am sorry you are joining us but this is a wonderful place with a lot of caring people, I have learned so much on these boards. Keep your chin up and take one step at a time, things will get better I promise.

(((nwest125))) I'm so sorry about your Mom, and I think it's perfectly natural for you to feel down on the anniversary of losing her. And I know we all struggle with the "what ifs" and concerns for the future. But everything about tx today is so different than it was 25 years ago. It's just going to take time for you to work through the fear, but there absolutely is light and hope the end of the tunnel!
JGrace, welcome to BCO! I'm so sorry about your dx, but I'm glad you've found us! And it's wonderful that you have so many friends to drive you to your appointments. Let us know how else we can help you! There's an entire section here on surgery here (click on Forum Index above and scroll down until you see it) -- all sorts of helpful information and tips, and also threads by month for women having surgery in April 2011, for example. I'm sorry that your kids aren't there for you right now, but we are! (((Hugs))) Deanna

NWest125,
Its hard not to have down dows especially when there are milestones/anniversaries that stare us in the face reminding us what we're going through! You have a cutie little granddaughter. I remember when my daughter (5 now) would love to fall asleep in my lap

Dear nwest 125 Cheer up because you are going to make it. Your cancer is small and it is low grade. It must have been found early. I am sorry that your mom is no longer with you. But because of her cancer yours was probably found early. I have a freind that had a sister with colon cancer and she died. But my friend went to have her colon checked because of her sister. She had cancer too but it was found in time and now she is a five year survivor. She said her sister saved her live and because of your mother I am sure you have not neglected to have mammograms. Good luck to you and God Bless.

icey..... Yes I did my mammagrams yearly because of my mom, That is when they found it this last summer. After I was dx alot of my friends that had not had a mammagram for a good while did go and do that and even a few of the guys I work with made sure they wifes went for their mammagram. So hopefully more of my friends are much more aware of the importance of yearly testing because of my dx.

A little late here, but hugs and prayers for you!
