Anyone watching Season 10 of American Idol?

Next week: songs from movies.
I can't begin to think of many, but I'm thinking someone will do Moon River... a classic... but maybe too old-fashioned for the contestents. Footloose, Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head.... well, anyway, my maturity (ahem) is showing
. Always fun to see the choices!
-
My eyes .... my eyes ... okay, its time to retire and put some clothes on - Iggy's. Hall of fame theme, so I guess Iggy was available and able to perform -- again, in my humble opinion - Retire - allow your fan base to remember you in your prime! Oh my lord! shirtless and skinny, not my idea of a graceful aging.
***please ... I did not hear what Jacob, said or stated *** what did he say?
I have notice several contestants have very largely inflated 'Ego's'..
Pia leaving, was a shock. Stephano didn't get boot ... Ugh! ... American has spoken .. voters have all the control at this stage of the game.

Vicki Sam,
Here's what happened with Jacob...
MTV's review of Jacob's performance sums it up best:
"There was goofy dancing. There was oh-no-don't-do-that hip thrusting. There were pitch problems as far as the eye could see. OK, fine. But the most galling aspect of Jacob's night was his smug observation that if he landed in the bottom three, it'd have nothing to do with his singing but rather would be an indictment of America herself.
During Jacob's video montage before last night with Jimmy Iovine and Will.i.am he said: "If I end up in the bottom three it won't be because I sang the song bad . . . it will be because everybody in America wasn't ready to look at themselves in the mirror."
And he didn't follow up with a laugh or smile. He was dead serious."
His performance was good but, I think he may have shot himself in the foot!
-
Excuse me ...! What did that mean?
-
VickiSam,
THAT is the million dollar question!! His comment was just ODD and left everyone wondering what the heck was that? Too bad really!
-
I was thinking maybe he was talking about the song he sang. Man in the mirror???????????
-
Seyla,
I do see that connection between his song and his comment..
Although what really didn't sit well with me was the insinuation that, if he didn't do well, it had nothing to do with HIS performance but had everything to do with some short-coming or bias of the viewers... Didn't care for that AND this is coming from someone who was really pulling for him!
What a CRAZY night last night was! Look forward to next week!
-
I think Jacobs's comment was an attempt to call peoples attention to the meaning of the lyrics of his song. He put it poorly and I hope he doesn't pay too dearly for the comment.
I too found Pia boring but looked forward to seeing her grow and become more of a performer. Whenever a singer is called "too broadway" I think of this sort scenario we saw last night. If Pia had acting classes she would have been a better performer. She would have learned to actually make the connection, not fake the connection.

Seaside...The way Jacob said it it came accross like an insult. Im not really a fan of his.
-
Ginger,
You have hit the nail on the head as to what is wrong with MOST of the contestants this year.... They are "faking" the connection rather than "making" it!
PERFECT assessment!
-
I was surprised that Pia left so early but I don't think she would have lasted much longer. She has a great voice but, as others have said, she is boring. No artistry or passion in her performance. She just belted it out, the same at the beginning and at the end.
Paul irritates me. Jacob is uncomfortable for me to watch but he would be a good gospel singer. Haley has been more entertaining for me the last couple of weeks. Stefano is sweet, but no real power behind the voice. One week I like Casey and the next I don't. However, James just blows me away. It won't matter if he wins. He will have a career regardless. IMHO, of course.
-
I did hear Jacob's remark, and as open as I am... it did not sit well with me at all! There are ways and ways of getting a message across. He chose the wrong body language! I think he suffers from DIVA's complex and as the weeks go by, it's just going to get worse, unless someone pops the high cloud that he is floating on! He is definitely no Adam Lambert! JMO
And did I expect Pia to go before the big FINALE?... Yes, but not this early... so I was sad, but at the same time, I know she will be just fine as I consider her (just Utube her name) the same caliber of singer as a Mariah, Barbara, Celine and what Whitney used to be like, before she pissed her life way with drugs and a very poor choice for a pathetic excuse as a husband. Again, JMO!
-
Seyla,
I agree... I think Jacob maybe didn't get how what he said was going to be taken, BUT I do think there are a lot of people that were really put off by his comment!
I really do feel bad for him mostly because I know how young they all are and, Lord knows, I made many a mistake in my day at that age! Although, thankfully, my mistakes were not as public as the contestant's on this show!
-
I agree with all of you....................Jacob's commen was out of line, he needs to stop with the screaming, and the faces (which are revolting, he looks like he is in pain) and maybe he should have been the one to go.
Agree .........I can't imagine how Stefano must have felt between the booing from the audiance, the reaction of the judges,,,,he must have felt real bad.........nothing like showing your disapproval...........
Paul is a bit smacky, and needs to do something with that hair
One of the girls looked like she stole her outfit from Humpty Dumpty.......black and white checks, come on now.......
James as disheveled as he looks, did a great job.....Wasn't crazy about him before, but thought he was excellent doing a slower song.
Scotty still my favorite.........just an all american boy.
-
Jacob was attempting to say something profound that related to the song he was singing -- "Man in the Mirror" -- but it came across poorly and he sounded only like he was full of himself. Too much bravura and he just ended up insulting the audience. I think he might not have been in the bottom three if he hadn't said that.
-
ducky- I don't dislike Scotty because he is clean cut, nor is that the reason he comes off a little dorky to me. I LOVED David Archuletta and was actually upset that he didn't win. I thought he was a genuinely sweet boy. I just think Scotty doesn't seem genuine and I don't like the faces he makes when he sings. Sorry if I offended anyone with my Scotty comments. I know he is just a kid and I should maybe give him more of a break. I only didn't like him bc during audtions he denied being in alot of groups bc he thought he was too good for them and it rubbed me the wrong way.
-
I don't think that was Scotty who did that, Hopeful, was it? He was in the group that kicked the little chubby boy out (sorry don't recall his name) ... and then apologized for not sticking up for the kid. If I remember right both he and the boy had trouble finding a group and no one wanted Scotty because of his country sound.
-
Lilah- you're right about him feeling bad for kicking Jaycee (aka chubby kid) out of the group and feeling bad. I just thought if he really felt bad (or anyone in the group for that matter) they would have left with him. I guess it's easier said than done though when you are in a competition where groups are so important. Scotty started out with a couple groups saying they would let him in and he said he wanted to keep looking and then when he found one he wanted the guy said no, so THEN he had to go back with his tail between his legs and ask to be in the originial groups that wanted him. I don't know what his problem is, when I was 15, I was a saint (jk
) I will say I did like him and Lauren singing "I told You So" So I am not discounting his talent at all, just not a fan of his personality.
-
I was not surprised to see Pia go home. While she has a beautiful voice don't think she connected with the audience. Clearly ballads are her comfort zone and when she tried to ratchet it up, she didn't seem comfortable. The judges love her and were shocked but I don't think they could see past her voice. She will probably have great career ahead of her and I'm sure once the coaches and managers get to her they will work on the issues that are problematic.
James also reminds me of Adam just a little less flashy. I loved Adam and think he should have won. I think James has a real shot at being the next AI. The others are also good but I think he has that something extra -
Pia got the boot!??!! I'm speechless(and that don't happen often!)
-
II ws surprised Pia was let go, but I don't think she would have made it to the end anyway. She is very pretty, beautiful voice, and you all are right....someone has probably signed her already. Sure we haven't heard the last of her.
I didn't see the show the night they were picking groups, so I don't know how Scotty acted, and if he did what some say, then I can see your reason for how you feel, but that kid is still going places, but I do believe only in the country genre, which is fine by me, as I said "I was country when country wasn't cool", and I'm from the North.
I too thought Adam should have won and even though I'm not crazy about screaming Rock singers................James is very good, and I don't think "crude" like Adam was (and he was crude at times), but love to watch him sing. I asked my kids if they thought all his antics are just for show, but they don't think so.
Oh, and that 1/2 naked dude........please, not only was he repulsive to look at, what was American Idol producers thinking when they put a freak like that on at 8pm in the evening EST, when a lot of young kids watch the show..........My daughter said my 10 yr. old grandaughter said to her "Oh Mom, who and what is that"...........daughter said "something you don't need to see", and changed the channel till he was finished............Then the loony toon judges gaves he a standing ovation.............Go figure.............
-
I think this season could be a bust if the judges don't get more "real" and give the voters more to think about. Somebody also needs to pick better guests than Iggy Pop -- he was just awful. Does anybody else think that Stephen Tyler doesn't seem to be enjoying his job as a judge at all any more?
-
BonnieK,
I think you're onto something that I over looked while in shock over Iggy. Steven does seem to be more withdrawn.
-
BonnieK........I think Stephen Tyler is just biding his time till the season is over.....he has never said 1 negative comment about anyone, and if he does, it is only to agree with something the other 2 have said, so he doesn't look critical..........Maybe he is just a nice guy who doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings....if that is the case, he picked the wrong show to be on, I don't like insults, but I think these judges are more "nice", then "honest"..............After one of them has performed they are all flowery with their comments, but when someone is eliminated they show their true feelings about who they like and don't like............As in the shock over Pia this past week.........Good heavens could they have been anymore one sided when they heard she was going to be eliminated................I can't imagine how Stefano felt. What were they actually saying..........."I am shocked Pia that you are the one going home", which if you think about it in reality they are saying "Yo Stefano I am shocked that your staying"............Yet when he is done singing, they all praise how good he is instead of being honest with him, if they don't think he (or anyone else) has done well...............Something isn't right this season.

duckyb1
I think Randy and Steven were only reacting to J Lo being upset because Pia her favorite singer was leaving AI.
-
Yea, that is quite possible, but he sure did react..He actually lifted out of his seat , haha
-
'Duckyb1.. Excellent point .. if I were in Stephano's shoes .. I would of felt like a piece of 'trash' -Seriously! I would be questioning my singing abilities -- which in his case, he must know that his time there on the AI stage .. is limited, and by all accounts will not be 1 of the final 2.
While I adore Steven Tyler and I am in love with him from afar, I am slightly disappointed that all his comments have been 'kind, and supportive'. This is the time to step it up a little, and offer .. growing information, and comments to the contestants so they can continue to grow .. and stay in the competition - . Steven does entertain me with his wild, off the walk 'man wear'. No other man on our planet could every pull his look off.
Comments made by contestants in this case -- Jacob,. Comments, like his - ALWAYS come back to bite them in the butt! I recall season after season .. when a contestant got cocky, thought he or she knew better -- .. inevitably that performer would, be voted off the very next week.
My take .. We as the voters .. can critiqued, cheer, and vote for each of our favorite performer, but don't start telling us .. what to do, or what to think. We as American's to keep you on that AI stage, week after week. We are fickled bunch -- we can adore or love you 1 week, hate you the next -- depending on your song choice, hair, outfit, and performance. We also factor in your attitude, zest for life and struggles -- and how you treat your Mama's.
My take, again .. I think Scotty is doing so well is because he has never changed .. anything (his hair is growing out a little) .. he is a 'Believer', loves his family .. Good old boy! Maybe America is tired of all these self serving Actors - their many brushes with the law, drugs and beating of girlfriends .. I don't know.
Just my take ...
Vicki Sam
-
http://www.votefortheworst.com/ is promoting Paul. They usually have some influence until the final 4.
-
pip57 ... LOL .. vote for the worst! Love this.
Thanks!
-
vicki Sam..............Amen, could not agree with you more..........fantastic points made by a BC sister............Your point about Scotty is my point exactly.............this kid could not be more genuine........Lord how I have longed for a great talent that doesn't look like he just got out of bed after sleeping in his clothes all night...
Maybe I am showing my age (76), but Scotty could join my other 18 grandchildren any day.
Trust me, I have seen it all.........Many days while either picking my grandchildren up at school, or waiting for them to get off the school bus I would think.....................Lord child, where was our mother when you walked out the door this morning, obviously not watching you leave.............................I don't mean you need expensive clothes, but soap and water, a comb or brush, and an "iron" to your clothes is not expensive......It is sad, and I do feel so bad for the little ones...........
My daughter has children, works, and keeps a house, and she is up every morning with them, making breakfast, checking their clothes, and if she doesn't like what she sees, its back upstairs to get something she approves of, fixing hair and watching them get on the bus..........then she gets in her car, and drives 45 minutes to work, and works 7 hours. I get the kids off the bus, and she is home, or her husband is, and then dinner, homework, showers, and in bed.................She is my hero, and so are my other 2 girls who did the same when their little ones were growing up.................Isn't that the way it was meant to be done
