Anyone watching Season 10 of American Idol?

I wonder if they get paid while on tour?
-
Oh yes I am sure they do Teka.
-
It's so funny how everyone has their favorites. I love Scotty. Can't stand Haley. I think they picked the right two to go last night. Casey is good when he sings, not when he screams. I like the judges this year (didn't think I would either). And Stefano is cute. Can never remember his name - but the one who wears the flowered jackets and sounds like Rod Stewart - he can go anytime and I won't miss him. He sings weird. Last night I said to my husband that he sounded like he should be singing on the corner of Height-Ashbury because it always sounds like he's on drugs. And my husband laughed and said it was a good analogy. They've got some great voices this year, that's for sure.
-
LOL Kj re: "the one who wears flowered jackets" -- that's Paul! He was the third one in the bottom and deservedly so. I agree he sounds like Rod Stewart but a watered-down one (so not even as good). LOL re: Haight-Ashbury.
I agree that Scotty sings really well in his genre... but it's not my favorite genre.
-
Time for Paul to stop wearing the flowered jacket.
-
Teka...Last night he said it was the last time he was wearing it LOL
-
I wasn't all that surprised to see Naima and Thia go last night--it was time. I really liked the way they had the contestants sing in groups before the results. A lot less crying that way and way more entertaining! I thought Lauren and Scotty were great as a duo, and the "band" (casey, james, stefano and paul) was excellent together.

He read my mind!
-
AWB .. agree it time for both Thia and Naima to take their final bow!
I also found it less painful to watch the eliminations, as they were group together after performances. Smooth transition.
I adore PIA, however, I found her vibe uncomfortable during the group song last night. She is NOT at all a POP singer. Which will be her downfall this season. Haley or as I like to call her, "Harley" is growing - and I am starting to enjoy her performances.
If I am not mistaken, Paul had the matching rose jacket and pants -- clips from Wednesday's performance .. quick, get a match - let's burn that 'Willie Nelson' wardrobe!
Speaking of get up's/garb .. did anyone catch Steven Tyler's -- zebra striped pants .. were they sheer ? Wild outfit, last night.
Take a deep breathe I just about finish critiquing last night's show ... Scotty and Lauren's duo .. nice, but I felt Lauren was holding back on her big old voice ... afraid to go all out in her duo performance.
I will skip over Fantasia and her performance .. ouch! I can't help myself ... what was the roll, bun thingy on the top of her scalp? meow ...

-
Vicki, I almost didn't recognize Fantasia but I think she was doing a throwback to the 40's hairstyles. I think
I sure liked her old look better.
What I noticed about Pia last night is that she really can't move -- she seemed so awkward and uncomfortable trying to dance a little and looked like she was staying with some carefully rehearsed moves. Whether or not anyone likes Thia and Haley, at least they looked relaxed and natural in their movements. So I'm giving more weight to my idea that Pia sticks with standing still and singing ballads because anything else is out of her comfort zone. We'll see if she tries to break out of that. The competition used to be a lot about growth but I don't see any of the judges talking about that any more.
So the theme next week has something to do with rock and roll top 100 or hall of fame or something. Anyone know better than I do?
-
Nature Girl I don't know, I think J Lo has been talking about growth with a few of them.
Steve Tyler wears the wildest things and seems to get away with anything. Including a pink sparkle shirt with ruffles (some weeks ago) that was definitely gender-bending. I did not notice the zebra pants this week though
-
-
Nice picture! Wow, 6 guys and just 3 girls! If Lauren puts in a little more effort each time she performs, I think she is really the best. I think she can do any genre, and has a powerful voice without any weird affectations.
-
Heartandsoul I agree with you about Lauren... she is definitely my very favorite.
-
I am liking this season......there seems to be much more talent. I think the last two to go were right. I like Thia..but she is young and seems to lack depth. I do like Scotty and think no matter what that boy will end up with a recording contract.
-
I have been watching it weekly with my kids. I am pleasantly surprised with JLO. She actually seems very nice and caring. The contestants are a good group this year. I personally think Paul needs to go. He sounds the same with each song, and it is the same crackling style. I think his looks have kept him on this far. I really like Lauren, she is versatile and genuine. Pia is good, but boring to watch. I think Stefano has great range and variety. Casey is good, yes he certainly needed a bit of a makeover, I think it will help him get more votes.
-
Ok, no one has mentioned the "curly haired guy " who they saved............I really think he did not deserve to be saved.............Maybe they should have kept that for a later date..................as for me I think Scotty is terrific.........he is relaxed, adorable, personalty plus, not yet spoiled by the new found fame,...............................and this kid can sing............but then again.............I was country when country wasn't cool....................Hope he takes it all, although I'm sure someone in the country business has already talked to him.......American Idol or not, this boy is going places.

American Idol Update for Wednesday.
Coming up this week on American Idol 2011, the remaining nine singers will be performing tracks from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame which covers pretty a huge range of songs including music which has influenced rock ‘n roll
-
Loving this thread. gutsy .. I completely agree about being pleasantly surprised with JLo. She's doing great!
As a huge Elton John fan, I was so happy to see that they didn't butcher his work for the most part last week!
I like that Naima stayed true to herself. I wonder if Jamaican Jerkoff would have been a better song for her to sing last week? Perhaps the implied meaning of that song kept it off the 'allowed' list!
I too love the 'band' performance by the 4 male contestants. They sounded great together!
Scotty has grown on me. I really enjoyed his duet with Lauren.
Tonight should be fun!! I hope Casey can tame the growling! Go James and Lauren!!!! They should do well tonight! I'm already rooting for James all the way!
A bit off topic .. did anyone see Elton John on SNL last weekend? He was great performing with Leon Russell!
-
Love Scotty..............he is the whole package............so damn cute...........just shy enough ....................fantastic voice.............and what a smile..............and yes his duet was great too...........Not crazy about her, but with him she did well
-
mimi - I think Lauren has what it takes to make it all the way. I hope she does - I can see her having a career similar to Kelly Clarkson, and being so young she's very malleable.
I think Scotty is great, too, but not versatile enough to be the AI. However, he already has plenty of producers banging down his door when he's finally eliminated.
Pia - poor thing, Very pretty, but boring and it's painfully obvious she has no rhythm! She may be picking an old Ike and Tina Turner song, but unfortunately Celine Dion covered it, and that is who she will no doubt be mimicking.
Haley is pretty good, sometimes very good, BUT she slurs her words SO much that they are basically unintelligible unless you already know them.
I prefer rock music, but to me, James just doesn't have the rock 'n roll soul. I like him a lot, I think he's cute and earnest but he doesn't have the appeal to rockers like Chris Daughtry. He just happens to be the best rocker out of this group, but that isn't enough to be the next AI. I'll never forget how stunned Chris Daughtry was when he was voted off, but he got the last laugh - he's had a pretty successful career with his own band. OMG, I just looked it up - Chris Daughtry lost that year to Taylor Hicks - LOL!
angel - I saw SNL with Elton and Leon the other night. That was a good show, but I'm a HUGE Leon Russell fan and I would have liked to have heard him a little more, but it was definitely one of their better shows. But I'm a big Elton John fan, too, so I certainly didn't suffer with him singing. Besides, he's such a great showman - he really interacts with the audience. The King and Queen skits are hilarious when they start talking with a Cockney accent!
gutsy - I didn't know I would like JLo so much, but she surprised me! She's so sincere and emotional and that is a real nice quality to see in such a big star.
Have you guys seen the ads for the NBC show, "The Voice"? It looks interesting, but speaking of JLo - Christine Aguillera doesn't seem to have the depth of emotion that Jennifer does. However, she could surprise me, too, just like JLo did.
Well, I never did finish Music Critiquing School, so I'm probably way off base with my reviews, but I'm so looking forward to tonight! It's nice to have this light, entertaining show to enjoy with all the hard news and tough CSI-type shows these days.
-
I think there's been a few times the audiences got it wrong (besides picking Taylor Hicks over Daughtry)... they picked Chris (or is it Kris) over Adam! Wrong. And another who is having a last laugh is Jennifer Hudson. I don't remember who won the year she competed... but she has come into her own and definitely has had the last laugh.
-
Tonight is pizza and daughter and grandcchildren night with AI. I,too, think if Lauren got a little more suredness in her abilities, she could make it to the top. Look at Carrie Underwood and the change in her from AI till now.
-
Agree with you Lilah.............Taylor Hicks reminds me of one of those neighborhood people from South Philly, in Pa. where they would go on Friday night, eat mussles, pizza, and drink beer. After everyone was feeling good, there was always the guy who got up and sang...........Taylor Hicks for sure...........
What did Chris do, 1 CD, and a commercial...............I was Lambert all the way that year......But face it he still went big, even though he can be obnoxious sometimes, I still like him..............and Scotty oh yea, some country bumpkin has already offered him a big contract. Looking forward to hearing him tonight.......but I was country when country wasn't cool...........and I'm from the North.
-
Okay girls... I have to defend my man Kris Allen... saw him concert in Vermont this past year. He opened for Mr. Keith Urban, who I fell in love over a CD hubby gave me for Christmas two years ago. The kid is awesome and I love him... there is also the fact that he reminds me so much of my favorite cousin... his aura! Does Adam Lambert have more "flame" than KA? Yes, but at the same time two very different styles.
Actually, James Durbin, who I want to adopt, reminds me a lot of AL.
So, are you girls ready for another nice evening together, with no spoilers to the Central and WEST Coast????
PS: Only three girls left... absolutely love Hayley and Lauren... even though Pia can sing the yellow pages backwards!
-
NBN....I am so ready but the cable was out when I got home around 5. Now its fine.
I was so upset about the thought of missing tonight's episode.
Hopefully nothing happens between 8-10.
1h and 4m counting...............
