I purchased from Softhats and I say their hats are really soft on the head   :-)

The hats can actually be used even after chemo....  at least i thought so.

I used under armour skull caps had one in red, white, and black that I wore to work and when I went into out.  Never realized how much hair keeps your head warm until I went shopping with my bald head and was standing under a vent in big lots, I had to leave it was so cold.

I ordered from bandanas.net this weekend and they came today.  Nice variety of patterns and colors and they came quickly.  Also included a free one -- don't know if it was because of the amt. I ordered or maybe as a first-time customer.

I also ordered a free headcovering from gailafund.org.  Really lovely patterns and materials and they give a free one to cancer patients.  That also came today.  Very well made and with a personal note from the company.

all isn't it funny that after we get going with our treatments the hair thing becomes such a non issue?  I also love my gaila wraps.  I like the fact that you can make them slightly puffy and they dont scream "I have cancer".  I've had lots of chemo patients ask me about them.  The prints are so pretty and the fabric is very soft.  I've found some cute houndstooth check hats at Target.  Also DH told me the young rogue golfers are wearing painter style hats.  I found an adidas one at Marshalls for about $8.00.  Not too hot and anything rogue I am down with.  The wig has been sitting in the closet.  During the fall it was so hot I felt like I was wearing a cat on my head. LOL!  Oh, I can only imagine what wearing one of my cats on my head would feel like -- pretty much one of the main reasons I decided not to go with a wig.  I hadn't thought of going to Marshalls to look for "head coverings."  I'll have to check it out.  Love your name, Library Lil -- I'm a middle school librarian myself, but I worked in elementary schools just after I got my degree.

Just want to add an idea for knitters and crocheters who want to create their own hats.  If you haven't checked out Ravelry: it is a huge knitting/crocheting resource site and community. You can do a search there under "patterns" for "chemo" and come up with tons of great hat patterns - many of which are free.

I like "biker wraps".  They are made to fit like a hat with a tie in the back like a scarf, and made out of cotton, so they're cool.  Just google "biker wraps"...  They're kind of tough looking too, which is great for when you're not feeling so great~~

    Hi!

I finished chemo on March 3rd, 2011. I now have very clear/white 1/4-1/2 inch hair!

I ordered a black visor with blond hair from "flairhair.com". I wore it yesterday (with a stretchy headband underneath) and got a ton of compliments...it is SO fun!

I got a beautiful $72 headwrap from franceluxe.com for FREE!

Gailfund.org will send you a beautiful headwrap for free....just go to the website.

Just FYI! No wigs for me! Too itchy!

    Enjoy your day!

Just got a gift today of four "Mad-Dana's". They are a lot like buffs - which I love - just a little thinner fabric and cheaper. Since I have a few, I've tried layering them and they are even cuter that way. Thought I would pass it along. I'd been looking for an alternative to Buffs and thought this might work for someone else: http://www.mad-dana.com/

On another thread, someone else posted about chemobeanies.com. Not sure if that has been mentioned in this thread before or not, but they look really cute!

I've read this thread and didn't see Breast Friends mentioned.  I contacted them and they sent me a very well made pink baseball-type hat, for free.  You have a choice between a logo that has a bald woman and reads "Temporarily bald.....Permanently beautiful."  OR, a rabbit that reads "Where's my hare?"  LOL

    Here's me wearing mine:

Go to:  www.breastfriends.com (whether you had breast cancer or not!)  Get their phone # and call them.  Super supportive people on the other end.

I also purchased from headcovers.com and love the scarf I purchased.  I rarely wear my wig anymore, as my hair is growing out and I find them way too hot.  I still wear my scarves and go without any head covering at home.

I dont know if this has been mentioned yet...but I think I will like these

    https://chemobeanies.com/

they tie is already in it so you dont have to figure out how to tie or readjust.    I would not be very good and doing the tie thingy.....

Do most head scarfs come pre-tired (sorry newbie here) or do you need to learn how to do them ?

So glad to find this thread on the active list. Will be losing my hair (again) within the next week. Great ideas on here. Tappy - some do come pre-tied. For great ideas on tying go to YouTube and put "tying head scarves" in the search box. A friend suggested YouTube to me and I'm blown away by the number of videos on scarves.

Alpal - you tube is full of scarves and how to tie them.  Hats and wraps and wigs and hats with hair and on and on...I had someone donate a wig to me yesterday and I got all teared up - geez, the sensitivity...LOL

    Hugs...Sharon

Does anyone know where I can purchase a few plain caps to go under scarves. It is cold here in New England and all I can seem to find are caps with seams or that tie in the back. Just a plain coltton tight fitting cap in a few colors. I didn't think it would be that hard to find but am having no luck.. Thanks for any help.

You should check out www.EBeauty.com, they are a new non-profit org that takes real-hair wig donations then has them refurbished and gives them to women going through chemo. My Aunt just donated her wigs to them and they could not have been any more nicer or easier to deal with!
