Hi Paola! I'm so sorry to hear about your mother...none of us wants to have breast cancer! That said...stage 1 means they've caught it very early and she should have an excellent prognosis!
Exactly which treatments she may need to have are dependent on a number of variables, and unfortunately the first 6 or 8 weeks of the breast cancer journey seems to be one of waiting for some kind of result or another to get the total treatment plan together! I know it's hard, but there's much to be positive about with a Stage 1 diagnosis!
Best wishes to you and your mother!

Hi 31paola, what your mum's doc is recommending is normal line of treatment. Chemo sounds terrible, but each person reacts differently to it. The main thing to remember for your mum is to make sure she drinks a lot of water to help flush it from her system and rests when she needs to. You can help her cope with all this just by being there to offer the love and support I know you feel. Many women who have been diagnosed with BC do well and it's more than likely that your mum will be one of that number. The next few months will be tough but you both can get through. Please come here often and let us know how your mum is doing and perhaps there will come a time when your mum would like to come here too. There is always someone around to talk to.
Peace, strength love n hugs. Chrissyb

Paola - At least your mom's cancer is still Stage 1 which means it hasn't spread anywhere. The grade level is more about the size of the cancer which is why the dr is probably recommending chemo. And Tina's right the next few months will be a lot of tests and waiting for results. There are a lot of variables that decide the course of treatment but if it turns out she will have chemo - she can handle it. There is a wealth of information and advice from ladies on this forum. I read it religiously. We are all praying for you and your mom. Just remember breast cancer is not the death sentence it used to be especially since they caught it early.

Stage 1 is very early stage and has an excellent prognosis. Once you educate yourself on the stage of your mother's disease, you will probably relax a little. The early part right after diagnosis is very scary.
I think the grade level is more about the aggressiveness of the tumor...there are three grades; 1 being the least aggressive, 2 being moderately aggressive and 3 being the most aggressive, which may be playing into her doctor's decision to go with chemo. Chemo, while not easy, was much easier than I thought it would be and it gave me peace of mind getting it, knowing it was killing all the cancer. I never experienced any nausea, etc....just fatigue.
Good luck to your mother!
