Weight Watchers is good as you use your own food. I just can't find time for meetings. I know, I know!! If I wanted to I could but I have other priorities right now. Also, I'm not a group kind of person.

Good for you Mum!!! You done good! Laughing

I finally figured out how to put songs on my ipod.  I have loaded it with my favorite rockin' songs.  I can't tell what a difference it makes to power walk with upbeat music in your ears!  Before, I would go to the park and intend to move....then look at flowers, trees, birds....With a steady beat, your feet just can't help but MOVE.  I have been walking about 80 blocks in under an hour.  I think that is about 2 miles.  Once I get going, I don't want to stop.  Soon you may find me in Key West!  So far Shanaia Twain is my favorite.  Any of you have favorite workout music?

I walks for 3 miles yesterday.  Trying to convince myself to get in a mile today.

Stress, post-chemo fatigue and just laziness are getting the best of me...

Barbe .. I am sure you know this .. but, Weight Watches has on-line classes.  One of my friends has lost 20 lbs in 3 months .. with little to no exercise.

I go to the meetings weekly, which really helps me stay focus at least for several days -- now to integrate .. exercise, ugh!

Kudos for all of you WARRIORS walking or just moving.

Hi girls!  Just checking in.  I have been eating horribly due to the stress of having to wait a week for the biopsy.  I had it yesterday and hopefully get results this afternoon. I don't think it is cancer though because the doctor's are perplexed by it and calling me a teaching case.  They would know what a reoccurance looks like.  I weighed myself today and am up 2 pounds.  I really thought it would be much worse. I think Weight Watchers is good except that when I did it in the past I relied heavily on processed foods to curb the hunger which caused blood sugar issues which caused me to be hungry constantly so I gave up. I hear they now make fruits and veggies 0 points.  I am just not a counting kind of person.  I was thinking of going to TOPS- Take Off Pounds Sensibly.  They are cheap, everyone is doing their own type of diet and it gives you the accountability of a weekly weigh in and encouragement.  You get charms and goofy stuff for your weight loss successes. They have a Thursday evening meeting I want to attend once I am up to it health wise.

    Talk to you soon!

    Lisa

Thanks girls.  Got through that.  Now I just need to get back on track with my eating. The scale keeps creeping up. How is evewryone else doing?  I tried ths recipe and it was good:

    Roasted Broccoli with Shrimp
    Serves 4

2 pounds broccoli, cut into bite-size florets
4 tablespoons (1/4 cup) extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon whole coriander seeds (or 1/2 teaspoon ground)
1 teaspoon whole cumin seeds (or 1/2 teaspoon ground)
    1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    1/8 teaspoon hot chili powder
1 pound large shrimp, shelled and deveined
1 1/4 teaspoons lemon zest (from 1 large lemon)
    Lemon wedges, for serving

    1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a large bowl, toss broccoli with 2 tablespoons oil, coriander, cumin, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper and chili powder. In a separate bowl, combine shrimp, remaining 2 tablespoons oil, lemon zest, remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and remaining 1/2 teaspoon pepper.

    2. Spread broccoli in a single layer on a baking sheet. Roast for 10 minutes. Add shrimp to baking sheet and toss with broccoli. Roast, tossing once halfway through, until shrimp are just opaque and broccoli is tender and golden around edges, about 10 minutes more. Serve with lemon wedges, or squeeze lemon juice all over shrimp and broccoli just before serving.

It is a recipe from Melissa Clark.  I put the spicy stuff on after because my kids don't like it and I crushed the seasonings a little- Don't think you need to buy the whole seed seasonings.

HI girls!  Just checking in.  I am still 2 pounds up.  I got a huge lecture from my gynocologist that I haven't seen since 2004. Had to catch him up on all my drama and face the fact that I wasn't going to my appointments or mammograms for all that time.  A lot of self guilt and anger since I have a family history of bc.  Oh well.  No use looking back, I just need to move forward. He really talked a lot about how fat produces estrogen and I have to lose weight to prevent a reoccurance or I am heading for the same situation.  Same actions, same results. He also said no alcohol at all.  That is a hard one because I enjoy my wine on the weekends.  He said absolutely no dairy products too and definately go high fiber. Of course exercizing was in the lecture too which is really hard sincve I can't right now due to the mono. However, He gave me the kick in the butt I needed to get motivated again. I am not totally well yet, but feeling better.  I think I am finally on the upward swing. I see my Oncologist tommorow for my 3 month check-up.  I wanted to impress him with more of a weight loss, but at least he will see I am in the downward mode-still 19 pounds down. Suprisingly, I am not nervous.  I guess because I already went through the big scare last week. How is everyone else doing?

Has anyone tried any new and exciting recipes lately?

Barb- you are too funny.   You scared the sh__ out of yourself.

Had my 3 mo check-up and all is good.  I was down 16 pounds on his records.  I am now down 23 pounds according to mine.  Yipee.  My Oncologist says exercise is the key.  Eating healthy is good, but the one thing he believes that makes a huge differnce is the exercise.  The one thing I can't do right now of course. I will just keep plugging away at my weight loss. He is taking me off Tamoxifen and putting me on another medication that is just as effective and does not cause blood clots.  So not more blood thinners.  Yeah.  I just hope the new medicine doesn't have weight gain as a side effect.

Tori_ Where are you.  Are you done with rads yet?  How is your skin holding up?

The way I found my cancer lump in my breast was because I lost 25 lbs and noticed a dimple on my right breast.  Just sure it was "nothing" I waited untl my well woman exam a couple months later and showed my primary doctor who sent me directly for  a mamogram - couldn't see anythng so I got the sonogram.    I am not sure why women with dense breast tissue do not directly get a sonogram but that is for another thread.

The way I lost the 25 lbs was easy for me.  I like to eat and eat a lot.  I just changed what I ate so much of.  This was last summer so cherries were in season.  I ate bags and bags of cherries.  In fact I ate all the fruit and veggies I wanted bar none.  So If I wanted to sit down with a colander full of grapes, so be it.

I ate 1 or 2 lean meats a day, a couple of dairy item (string cheese, greek yogurt) and that was about it.  So instead of sitting down with a bowl of potato chips (yum) I sat down with cherries.

Oh and yea, exercise - I tried to 45 - 60 min cardio 3 - 4 times a week.  I took off 25 lbs doing that.  Now I am at a standstill since surgery (3 weeks ago) but I will start back at the gym ths week and waiting for the cherries to come out.  Been pasifying myself with grapes but those are higher in calories!  I like easy peasy so measuring and limiting...etc...are harder for me.  Just show me me what I can pig out on and I am happy.  I will cut open a grapefruit and eat both halves.
