Miss Bianca .. Interesting information. I have found Dr. Oz, and his information .. very cutting edge, helpful and spot on.

Ladies can I join??? It's now or never for me. I have totally changed my eating habits and only allowing a few bad things in, but the steroids (I believe) is keeping me from loosing the weight. I am planning on having some lipo done at the time of exchange to give me a boost. But I must get this weight off before 40, because I feel the older I get the harder it will be.
THIS SUCKS!
-
Welcome, Fighter!! I remember you from the We all have a Story thread. I am glad to see that you have chemo behind you. How are you doing? So happy to see you here!
-
Thanks MissBianca Thanks for the information. Montery is only 3 hours away and I haven't been there for a long time. Maybe this Spring. I am so glad the weather is getting better and hopefully less illnesses going around too for me to catch-ha, ha I am going to try a broiled broccali shrimp recipe I found. I will let you know if it is any good.
Welcome fighter34! These ladies are wonderful. I learn so much and it helps keep me motivated to stay on track even when my body is being stubborn with giving up the weight.
I am down 1 pound, so almost to the 240's. I really wish I could exercise. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. I made an appointment for counseling. I feel I am just stuck emotionally and I am usually a very happy, positive person. I am getting my diet under control so now I need to get my emotions under control too to get healthy. I know they are connected.
Talk to you soon!

MissBianca- much better and so glad to be done w/ CHEMO...
Hope all is well with you....

Wow...I haven't checked in here for a bit and holy cats, lots of good stuff!
Barbe...I have gone gluten free so potato bread is my bread. It helps with the joint pain from the anti hormonals. Since I have, the whole wheat upsets my tummy and my joints hurt (but who can resist those wonderful hot rolls when out to eat).
I have started to pay more attention to how my clothes fit instead of the scale.
Brocolli and califlower - baked, broiled or steamed is excellent. If you cannot have shellfish, but can have fish - the fake crab delights are cod and do very well in a stir fry. Something different.
And whoever mentioned the living on the cheap and the top end calories - the long story cliff notes version - I ended up out of work for an extended period and was at the food shelves on a regular basis - that put on most of the 60 pounds I gained - they love giving you pasta, bread and danish!
Hugs all
LowRider
-
Good to see you back Lowrider! I didn't know that about the imitation crab.
I found an interesting article that kind of explains what is working for me or at least what I am striving for. It fits with the mediteranian type diets too> Just thought you might be interested:

Lowrider .. Welcome ... Happy you found us! I am new to this site, so I am trying on a few topics and subjects .. finding my comfort zone. My previous site, I have over 3400 posts and it is so much different - not in a bad way, just different. Topics are answered by sisters in pink, then another topic comes up .. I feel weird coming back over and over again, continuing with the relationships and topics.
Just wanted to add .. I am a firm believer .. that it is okay to nip, tuck, lipo -- to enhance our self esteem, or well being! I am thinking about getting a tummy tuck, as a reward of surviving 8 major surgeries in 13 months ... bilateral mastectomy, tissue expanders, staph infection in right breast, 2nd tissue expander in right breast .. exchange surgery of gel .. right breast dropped, another surgery etc etc.. I am now deciding on whether to nipple or not to nipple, and go straight to the 3D tattoo's .. awesome - shadowing, colors etc. If I must go thru another damnnnn surgery, it may as well be for my pure pleasure -- and reduction of my puffy lower stomach .. Forget the nip's, and straight to 3D tatt's .. that's my decision for now -- waiting until June .. to make final decision.
Good luck!

Glad, Thank you for posting that info! It is really great info for diabetes, also. I am forwarding that article to my mom. I am posting that link again for easy access. (I think you forgot to click the link icon first).
Thanks again! Good night, ladies.
-
Oooh, I forgot about this thread. I'll, have to go through and catch up when I have more time.
For now, I have to report - 3 mile walk with my little dog in the bright IA sunshine today. Did my mind (and body) well.
-
Chromium was the ingredient that I picked up on in Glad's link. They use that at Herbal Magic and that's the magic bullet for losing weight!! The only thing, is that when I went to Herbal Magic, I asked if something I was taking was hurting my Fibro (which they didn't know what it was!) and they said "No, everything is "natural"! Well, may be natural, but Chromium DOES interact with our blood and hurts our joints!!!
So at first I was excited to know about it and then dismayed to find out I can't take it. If you don't have joint issues, just go to the Walmart pharmacy and pick some Chromium off the shelves. Have at it!
-
Barbe .. I need to go out and purchase this TODAY! .. As I am meeting 7 sisters in PINK from another site that I have be a member of .. since August 15th 2009 -- the day after my breast cancer diagnosis. 5 of them 3/26 in Sacramento, California, 1 of them in San Diego and the last --7th sister in Palm Springs ..she is flying in from Louisiana. Oh the pressure to try and look my best ..LOL
Thanks for the tip!

Doing rather good today oatmeal for breakfast and having soup & ice tea for lunch...let's pray snack time goes well.
Got up and did 60 sit-ups this morning; will try the sit ups again tonight.
-
sit up's .. hum .. okay Fighter_34, adding sit ups -- beats sucking in my stomach for hours.
Vicki Sam
-
Fighter, I'm so glad you are doing better. Thanks for reminding me about those sit ups. They would probably help in loosening the waist of my jeans.
Lowrider, I know what you mean about the cheap sources of white flour. I was with my DH this morning as he went into a convenience store and I waited in the car. I watched a number of people go in and out buying pastries for breakfast. When I first bought a KitchenAid mixer years ago, I was in baker's heaven, and didn't realize how I had packed on about 10 lbs. in about 3 months just from adding some baked goods to my diet. The cheapest good for you food I know of are beans, bought dried and soaked overnight. The whole continent of South America depends on this as a staple, and there are some very poor countries there. Americans just associate being on a tight budget with eating ramen noodles and mac n cheese. Now, the trick is, how do you not get tired of beans?
lol Maybe that's why spicy foods go well with them, so they don't get bland.
Glad, I also really like the great tips on soluble fiber and how it helps slow down the absorption of sugar.
Hope you guys are having a good day!
-
OK girls! I am officially down 21 pounds. Whoop whoop. Next goal is to lose 6 more pounds to be rid of 10% of my body weight. Keeping my blood sugar stable is really working for my body.
MissBianca- I am trying really hard to come up with different versions of bean recipes, but it is hard. I think I am going to try to do a vinegar marinaded salad next because the bean soups are getting old. Also, I bought stuff to make homemade humus. We will see how that goes. Have a great day!
Lisa
-
Lisa, OMG!!!! You are AMAZING!!!! Good for you!!! Woo hoo is right!!!!
-
Wow, Lisa! Keep doing what your doing. Congrats! Let us know how the bean salad works out. I've had black beans in Southwestern salads before, and it was pretty tasty.
-
Sisters,
An interesting article I thought I would pass along...certainly worth a read...food for thought...
Hope you are all well tonight...

Wow, Tori, great article. Thanks! Modern society's foods are so polluted with the chemicals in packaging and preparation, let alone pesticides.
I will be looking for glass jarred tomatoes or grow them, and maybe invest in a popcorn popper. I also had watched a program by Dr. Marisa Weiss (founder of BCO), and she said that we have to be careful of plastics and heat. For example, she said use paper towels to cover our food in the microwave, because plastic wrap releases estrogen chemicals. Also, she said use a ceramic dish for any microwaving, and use aluminum water bottles instead of plastic If we have them, at least keep the plastic bottles away from heat, like leaving them in your car.
I hope everyone is having a good day!
-
I have a small glass dish that I use 'when I have to' use the microwave. I usually try to bring in stuff that doesn't require heating.
Just got finished running/walking on the treadmill. Glad2Bhere, CONGRATS!!!!
-
I have been careful about warming things up in the plastic storage containers too. I have never seen tomatoes in a jar though. HMM I think there are so many things out there that can be bad for me that I would go crazy worrying about all of them and not want to leave my bed and the stuff in my mattress is probably bad too-haha. At least we are all making positive steps to eat healthy and lose weight which is a huge risk factor.
Yesterday, I found out my blood clot is finally gone. Yippee. Now I can finally get my expander put back in, but I think I am going to schedule it in June when I am out of school. My body needs more time to recover from being sick. I don't want to get another infection in my expander. Plus, it will give me more time to lose weight. I also went to my first counseling session and I already feel a lot better.
Fighter-34- good job with the exercise. That is amazing. I am finally feeling better from my mono and pnemonia and can't wait until I can start exercising. Wow, I never thought I would be saying that.
Happy Friday!
Lisa

As you can probably tell, I have too much time on my hands trying to not do anthing physical to recover from the mono. Here is another article I found regarding the Mediterranian diet that I found interesting:

How are you ladies doing today? I am trying to get myself together, but I just feel kinda lousy. Lingering sore throat and achiness, but I love coming here and being reminded of what I need to focus on. Now, if I can just peel myself from my comfy spot and get going. I'm sipping on tea, trying to get some kind of spark ignited.
Thanks so much, Glad, for the article. My mother has told me about fish oil to fight depression, with all the omega 3's in it. I take a supplement (capsule labeled 'burpless') I also have been giving it to my son with autism since he was two. (Twin Labs cod liver oil orange flavor) He loves it. I always give him gummy multivitamins after. His eye contact and behaviors improved so much right away, and I notice changes in him if I run out. I really believe it helps with overall brain function as well as stabilizing mood. Of course, natural sources in our food is best, but I don't always get the fresh fish. I do cook with olive oil, though.
Fighter, you are such an inspiration! Keep going and telling us about it! It's grey and rainy outside again. I am going to go work out with my dance workout on Netflix. I have to have fun working out, or else I just don't want to do it. I entertain myself with saying all the instructor's lines. It's a salsa dance routine, and she says things like, " give me a cha cha!" My son has it memorized, too. He likes to count with her.
I hope everyone is having a good weekend!
-
MissBianca I hope you feel better soon. You are a strong lady with all on your plate. I am a Special Education teacher. I will have to share your tip with a few of my parents. I have NetFlix so can't wait to work up to your dance routine. It sounds like fun!
I am re -reading my Eat to Live book by Joel Fuhrman and thought this was interesting information:
Study done by the University of Tromso in Norway found that for premenopausal women who exercised regularly (more than 4 hours a week) had a 62% decreased risk of breast cancer.
Have a great weekend!
Lisa
-
Lisa, that stat's a bit late for us, isn't it!!
-
Yep, I guess you are right Barb- especially the premenapausal part, haha!
-
Thank you, Lisa! I felt like a truck ran over me when I woke up this morning, but after moving and getting my blood circulating, I felt a lot better. I'm fighting off something, but it's not too bad. Thanks for the support! It is so wonderful that you are a special ed teacher. I am grateful every day for all the talented, loving people that work with my son. What age group do you work with?
Thank you for the info about decreasing breast cancer risk! I am still premenopausal (my doc says I have ovaries of steel for not being shut down from chemo), and I am doing everything I can to keep estrogen levels low (well, except ooph). Exercise actually decreases the amount of estrogen circulating in the bloodstream, let alone the fact that fat produces estrogen. After my oncotype score indicated I would have about a 5% benefit from chemo, I'll take any percentage benefits I can! Exercise even has the psychological benefits of stabilizing mood, and I need the most positive outlook I can to deal with daily challenges. So, thanks again!!
I hope you all have a great week!
-
(feel better Bianca) I see everyone here has been doing well while I was away.On my trip I stuck to meats and veggies all week except one night at italian resturant. But the wine and drinks at a resort can sneak uo on you I managed to gain 2lbs so I am off to the gym this morning pronto. Now if my old hips would just cooperate.
-
Thank you, Mum! I can't wait to see some pics from your trip. Good for you about pouncing on those couple of pounds. I am usually in denial about them (I'm bloated, my clothes are heavier, etc.) until they start to slowly climb and then there is no denial! Let us know if you see any Greek God personal trainers cracking the whip over there!
