Coni - the milder weather is definitely helping my attitude that's for sure.  Getting out for some good walks.  As for my sore muscles, some say it's the taxotere and others say it's the herceptin that I am getting now.  Who knows....I don't have any joint pain, it just feels like I have been running marathons!  Moving helps - if I have been sitting for awhile, I'm like a 110 yr old when I first get up Undecided

marjie - That seems to be SUCH a universal symptom!!  I wonder WHAT the mechanism is.

Omg me too I think it's taxotere I'm the same way, muscles and joints hurt though but what makes it worst I'm pretty sure is the neaulasta, so that's why I'm skipping the last one, i want last one with little to no pain lol....

My muscles are like hamburger...I don't have joint pain but as marjie said if I sit to long I am like an old woman.... I still am going to curves but man do I hurt.

I sent a letter to appeal the insurance decision by certified mail , I will call them Wed. to check in. I am talking to a lawyer next week to see what they say.

Coni don't skip the last neaulasa shot you may end up very sick from not taking it and that would be worse. When it was my last chemo, I was feeling great after a week I think it was knowing I didn't have to go back again. Are you having a double mastectomy? I did and it hurt for a few weeks I think the drains were the worst. I couldn't use my arms for a lot of things for a long time but that was ok. You will do fine.

Can you tell me much about Curves?  Do you enjoy it?

I am doing my own exercise with Urban Rebounder and DVD but my legs continue to hurt and my last Herceptin was last Thanksgiving...

ang7, I love curves... It is all women from 20 to 80 it is a 30 minute circuit work out it is so much easier on my body and I love the ladies that go there I would say 50% of them are cancer survivors. When I couldn't go for 3 months the owners called me to check on me. It is not like a big crazy gym where you don't know what to do they show you and encourage you. I think you would love it and it only takes 30 minutes. 2yrs ago I lost 20lbs and I was in such good shape. With my muscles being so sore I have to take it slow so it takes me about an hour to do the 2 rounds but that is ok.

coni: I am new to this thread, but saw your post about the neulasta and had to tell you I had the same reaction to it. My blood pressure went so low I could not hold my head or body up. This happened to me after my 3rd treatment out of 6. My MO decided that since my WBC was high enough I could skip the neulasta shots. Fortunately, it stayed up each time and I was able to skip the last 3 shots. That stuff is HORRIBLE! Make sure your WBCs are up before you make the decision to skip, though. You don't want to get really sick.

Coni - I had very low bp after the sixth chemo. I was also extremely short of breath and was panting after going about five steps. I also had heart palpitations, too. It turned out, I got very anemic, as I progressed along with chemo. Just about two weeks ago I had a blood transfusion to get me back to a relatively normal level of WBC, RBC and Hemoglobin. The blood transfusion made me feel a lot better afterwards. My appetite came back and my energy level went up as well. Though, I am still very emotional and cry a lot, but I am a bit more hopeful that I will get better, as I eat more. I am very thankful for my new oncologist, who recognised the classic signs of anemia and quickly offered the blood transfusion. I really hope you feel better soon. I know I was miserable and felt very vulnarable.

coni: Yes, I am done! I had my last chemo on 2/9 and started rads on 3/16. I still have some SEs from the chemo, but they are sloooowly disappearing. Good luck with your last one. I know you will do fine!

Coni- my onc told me that I had chemo induced anemia. My WBC -- that the neupogen, which is the same as neulasta helped to boost-- was fine. For me, it started around the the fifith chemo then after the sixth I was just in an awful state. If I may suggest something... try to eat red meat daily before the next chemo in addition to the iron pills and the injection. (yeah, I was going to do the injection at first, but I was in such a bad state that I did not want to wait two weeks to improve) I hope you will recover fast and will feel strong.

meat - I am still eating red meat and chicken or fish almost daily.  Apparently protein is very important during chemo, rads and I figure it can't hurt for a while longer.  I didn't eat much meat before.  My husband sure is enjoying it!

I just had a couple of comments about increased iron intake.  First, if you are not iron deficient, meaning you have enough iron stored in your body, taking in too much can also cause problems because it may be deposited in liver and other organs.  The problem with chemo is that the bone marrow cannot USE the iron you HAVE to make red blood cells, so all the iron in the world is not going to fix this problem.  You just have to wait until the bone marrow recovers and starts producing its own, or get a transfusion.  Iron injections have lots of SEs that may not be worth the risk if you are able to take iron in and absorb it (but you may have decreased absorption if you don't have enough protein to bind it in the GI system).  Epogen, which stimulates bone marrow to produce more red blood cells is NOT recommended for breast cancer because it seems outcomes are worse with it, but the Neulasta, which stimulates white blood cell production and thus helps fight off infections is OK.

Sorting out the SE of Neulasta vs. chemo as far as the muscle and bone aches and pains and flu-like symptoms is difficult, but usually the Neulast is more related to deep bone pain, while chemo is more related to the muscle, joint, and other pains.  But if the WBC is adequate, seems to me no need to add more drugs and risk the additional pain!

Also, normal recommended protein intake is about 0.3 gm per poiund of your body weight, but with chemo and rads you should be taking in 0.5 - 0.75 gm per pound of body weight as a minimum.  I am a vegetarian but had no problem getting enough protein once I knew how much I needed! But I had to ask for a nutritional consult at every visit for the first couple of months before I got the appointment and information, and probably then only because I was losing weight and kept telling the MO that I needed more information in order to participate and take care of myself!

Hi everyone I wanted to let you know a friend of mine has a Lawyer friend and he is helping me out (at no charge) with the health insurance thing... I have spent days calling all the health providers to let them know I have sent in an appeal. The Lawyer has drafted up a fine letter of appeal as well. So I am hoping that they will find it in there hearts to reconsider the request for refunds. I have been so stressed out I can't even think straight. I am so sick of cancer and everything that goes along with it

I hope everyone is doing ok?

Hey ladies! Need to vent a little and I know you guys understand! I have been going to school for several years (3 hours here, 6 hours there) trying to finish up my bachelors degree. Being a mom and preshcool teacher and going to school takes some time! Anyway, I withdrew in October because of my diagnosis. I knew I couldn't keep up while going through treatment (understatement!!). I'm trying to get things prepared so that hopefully I will feel well enough to go back in September. I just checked on my grades and one of my professors gave me a WF!!! I went through the proper channels and withdrew and emailed my instructors and this woman put an F next to my W!!! I also received financial aid and they are now telling me I owe a $700.00 penalty for going below 6 hours! I was diagnosed with BREAST CANCER for crying out loud!! I wrote a very nice letter when I withdrew explaining the reason why. I have been on the phone all morning trying to get this sorted out.

I know it's not as big of a nightmare as what you are going through with your insurance Tracie, but I'm a little put out!

By the way Tracie, so glad about the lawyer friend!! I am believing the best for your situation!! The stars have to align right for us sometimes, right?

Ok, I feel better! Thanks for letting me rant! Smile

shooshoo23 What a PITA but you will be able to work it out. Dealing with both the school  bureaucracy can drive you nuts. Be sure to check on every step.

I remember one fall in grad school U of I forgot to send my information in so I didn't get my student loan! They didn't make me pay tuition but I had to wait till spring semester for the student loan check to come in… and I did check up on them too.

shooshoo23, be a squeaky wheel! I don't know where you are going to school, but there is ALWAYS a way to correct the transcript, even if it means taking it to the dean or even provost if necessary!!!  I agree with lago, it is a pita!!  But I have been involved in many cases in which student health impacted the ability to complete a program, and it was usually not a problem to help someone out who really was really having this type of difficulty.  Just takes an advocate and someone who can work the system.

I have been reading this thread for awhile, and have gained a great deal of info about the taxotere.  I recieve my taxotere in combo/TAC.  I have a great deal of pain in my chest and arm area following chemo for about one week, worse each cycle.  I had bxm with TEs prior to chemo, I feel like I a swollen as big as a blimp and sore to touch, but look in the mirror and no edema.  I also get Neulsta, but this pain in more in sternum and ribs.  Anyone else experience this with taxotere?  I have needed to take vicodin this round I am so uncomfortable.  Feel like my TEs are going to explode.
