I'm not Deana, but thought the sentiment was good.

Deb, sorry your dad is having such problems.  The dr. said my mother's confusion last week was most likely from being septic.  At leastwe are pretty sure it won't be recurring.

    Good morning.

Deb and Chris, Hope your dads are feeling better soon.

    I want chocolate!

My youngest is home sick today.  He's mad because he has a half day and wanted to go hang out with his friends.  I'm so mean!

    I never buy cake.

I eat chocolate but not cake.

Deb...i hope Dad is feeling better today.

    Linda....I can relate to you.

I used to have a rule if you are sick enough not to go to school...I'm not accepting any excuses for later that you are feeling better.

Once you are sick you are all day.

There's an ice cream shop - (or is it shoppe?) in the next town that has a dessert I like to get - part of why my scale is giving me bad numbers.  It's called chocolate decadence cake sundae.  Chocolate cake with thick, rich chocolate frosting with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and whipped cream.  Mmmmmm.

For real chocolate decadence try flour less dark chocolate cake topped with dark chocolate ganache, served on a pool of raspberry puree with a bit of whipped cream on top. Garnish with fresh raspberries and a sprig of mint.  To die for.

It is delicious, I have only made it a few times for special dinners but it is fabulous.

Today, I went to get a latte (decaf, nonfat) at Starbucks and they were giving out samples of salted caramel and dark chocolate bars.  OMG.  Thank goodness they were sold out of their retail stock.

I've made it several times for special occasions and to serve at catered dinners we've done at the Senior Center.  I once had someone pay $5 a slice for leftovers.  You get 16 slices from a nine inch cake.

I meant that in a caloric sort of way, not that I think I am "all that" in the kitchen.

Found this on line several years ago.  It is called La Bete Noire.  Actually easy to make.

Instead of wrapping the pan in foil I cut down a turkey roasting bag and tie it tightly around the bottom of the spring form pan.

I like to serve it on a pool of raspberry coulee and topped with a bit of whipped cream. Very easy to make.  yield: Makes 16 servings

This phenomenal take on a classic flourless chocolate cake lives up to its translation, 'The Black Beast."

    Ingredients

    Cake

    • 1 cup water
    • 3/4 cup sugar

9 tablespoons (1 stick plus 1 tablespoon) unsalted butter, diced

18 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, chopped

    • 6 large eggs

    Ganache

    • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
    • 8 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, chopped
    • Lightly sweetened whipped cream

    Preparation

    For cake:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter 10-inch-diameter springform pan. Line bottom of pan with parchment round; butter parchment. Wrap 3 layers of heavy-duty foil around outside of pan, bringing foil to top of rim. Combine 1 cup water and sugar in small saucepan. Bring to boil over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Melt butter in large saucepan over low heat. Add chocolate and whisk until smooth. Whisk sugar syrup into chocolate; cool slightly. Add eggs to chocolate mixture and whisk until well blended. Pour batter into prepared pan. Place cake pan in large roasting pan. Add enough hot water to roasting pan to come halfway up sides of cake pan.

Bake cake until center no longer moves when pan is gently shaken, about 50 minutes. Remove from water bath; transfer to rack. Cool completely in pan.

    For ganache:
Bring whipping cream to simmer in small saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat. Add chocolate and whisk until smooth. Pour over top of cake still in pan. Gently shake pan to distribute ganache evenly over top of cake. Refrigerate cake in pan until ganache is set, about 2 hours. DO AHEAD: Can be made 2 days ahead. Cover and keep refrigerated.

Run knife around pan sides to loosen cake; release sides. Cut cake into wedges and serve with whipped cream.

Woo hoo!  Got an all clear on my mammogram today.  I thought I wasn't stressed about it but when my longtime radiologist came to get me shortly after the tech took films, I burst into tears - I remembered that he came to get me last year.  I took about two steps and he put his hand on my shoulder and said "relax, you are good".  Then, we sat down and went over the pics, etc.  Gotta love a place that has two radiologists read it before you leave.

    Maybe I should make a cake?  :)
