We drove up to talk to my daughter about my progression of this disease.  There is one hotel that I really like, it is walking distance to the mall, has a Starbucks in the lobby, the most recent updated technology, etc........DH suggested we look into a less expensive hotel, so.....I agreed because we were only staying for one night.

We choose a hotel that was between where I like to stay and my DD's college, it's a national chain and the people checking in seemed to be "okay".

Drove to DD college, brought her back to the hotel.  She gets out of the car and says, you know this is a bad neighborhood.  But, we stay, the people there seem okay, a lot of older people, people, people with RV's or boats stopping in for one night.  We get into the room after dinner and start to settle in and I notice that the airconditioner doesn't work, but I can live with that the weather isn't bad and I'm not walking out of my room alone at night.........we decide after to watch watch some television while DD studies.  I pick up the remote press power, nope it doesn't work so we turn it on at the television. Whew...........the volume is screaming at me.  I press the volume down button and guess what? The channel changes, I press the power button, the channel changes, I press the mute button and the channel changes, every button changes the channel.  OMG - what have I agreed to???? After finally settling in with a show by changing the channel with the mute button while DD is studying, we hear sirens blaring by over and over, yep I feel safe.  Let's be sure the door is locked.   DD goes back to her dorm, she thinks it's better that way.  DH and I get back to our room, I LOCK up and he promptly falls asleep.  I laid there the entire night listening to his usual snoring...........very early morning showers and conversations in the room next to us..........more sirens...........oh and how can I forget the nice man who decided to hack up a lung next to my window........all while I'm staring at a cirgarette burn in the non-smoking room on the blanket that felt like sandpaper. We "wake up" and I pull the shower curtain back to see that wash rags were left hanging in the shower curtain, yuckkkkk I'm not touching that.  Then I notice mildew in the soap holder, nope I am not showering in that tub.  Last, but not least I decide to go check out the free breakfast offered, I thought I'd nab a bagel  and bring it to my DD for later in the day.  The free breakfast was non existent.  I could see that there was food, but I'm guessing if you're not there in the first 30 minutes it's served you're SOL.

Yep...........that $30 difference was so worth it because we will laugh about this for many years to come.

That sounds like a motel that we stayed out when on vacation a couple years ago.  I was afraid someone would break in  & steal all our stuff while we were out eating.  More that happy to leave that place & never go back! NJ

Thanks for the laugh....you are braver than I.... I think I would have gone to the front desk and checked out that night or if I stayed in the morning asked for a refund!!!

Nothing like a good laugh with my morning coffee - thanks!  DH is such a germaphobe, he'd have had us all out of there and half covered in antibacterial gel seconds after the first glimpse of that shower.

A friend on fb recently posted a link to a selection of videos of the worst hotels in the world. If it would make you feel better (yours was by far not the worst) I'll post it here. Let's just say, there are some real sh*tholes out there.

Will your DH upgrade to the better hotel next time? Sounds like he slept through the worst of it.

I am the germ freak in the family, DH tolerates it well.  And.......he promised to not make less expensive suggestions in the future.  It did make for some very good laughs and thought I'd share because we could all use a good laugh.
