    Spent the morning walking the pups by the river. THAT was a sight, I'm sure. Me hobbling along after two crazy Bostons.

    Now I'm headed back out to scare up some saddle fittings at a local tack shop. Can barely swing my leg over the saddle, but need to confirm fit for my "swimming" saddle before purchase.

    Man it's *beautiful* here today. I have Spring Fever!

    I also read my "Italien Mama" hubby the riot act about feeding me. I want to get back to low-fat, low-cal food with less carbs. At this point I am doing nothing about lowering recurrance possibilities other than thinking about it.

    I figure if he thinks he may be killing me with kindness he may readjust the menu. Good cook though...

    Heidi:  Glad to see you are already up and about.  My man cooks too and it's always too much and too fattening but they mean well!

    You ladies are lucky!  I'm the chief cook and bottle washer at my house...although my DH will grill on the BBQ and he does so in snow and ice in the winter so I shouldn't complain.  He grilled the chicken for fajitas last week and the temps were in the minuses.

    It's good to be moving about (and burning calories), but I pay a price for it since it doesmake my leg ache. Mostly though, it's all the other parts of my body that are sore from compensating for the limp.

    I have so little patience for being a patient.

    Sorry, haven't been on as much because of work lately. I'm doing well MBJ! You? Still 10 lbs too heavy, however. Sighhhh. After the holiday yummyness, now Valentine's Day candy. Gah! I'm doing the Avon BC walk in October in NYC though, soooo I have to start training for that. I should be back to where I was in no time! (fingers crossed) Lol.

    Erica:  Training for the walk will have the pounds off in now time.  I know what you mean about all of the sweets.  First Christmas, then Valentine's Day and now we will soon have Easter to battle the bulge.  No candy for me except my little square of dark chocolate. 

    I am now making hot chocolate with organic cocoa powder, boiling rice milk & coconut milk together and adding agave for the sweet.  Chocolate is my downfall!

    Sugar-grilling in the 'minusus'??? I can't imagine...I see it on tv every once in awhile and I think, 'nawww', people don't really do that.  Guess they do !!  Give him a high 5 for me. 

    I was so good today at our event in the park (80* - don't hate me)  I turned down the german potato salad and the roll for the brat...substituted sauerkraut instead, and only one bite of the custard dessert.  The Mich lite didn't count, right?  Tomorrow is pizza and ice cream at the retirement center where I volunteer.  It may have to be my cheat day...those are 2 things I simply can not turn down if they are within eyesight.

    Woot woot for heidi.  Up and about too!

    Going to an annual Daytona 500 party today.  About 20 families and everyone brings a dish to pass and the host makes hot wings.  I am bringing my infamous chocolate covered strawberries.  This is usally the only fruit on the buffet table!  So even though I have been working out this week I am not to hopeful for a loss on the scale tomorrow morning.

    Me too! Bean soup and lots of fresh fruits and juice.

    But you don't want to visit anytime soon... or light a match in my house.

    Today is a stat holiday (Family Day) here where I live so I've been cooking. I made a pot of bean soup and a pot of broccoli soup. Now I'm making stuffed pasta shells.  All the recipes are low fat and very healthy. Probably shouldn't light a match here either :) All this healthy food and my DH and DD decided to heat up mini frozen pizzas for lunch!

    Not doing good diet wise, too many card parties.  Weighed in at 135 this morning.  I take a pound off one week and put it on the next.  Need to really get focused.

    Weights to stave off lymphedema

    There's a new study reporting that if you've had lymphedema or are at risk of developing this condition, weight lifting can benefit you. Lymphedema is characterized by excess fluid (lymph) that collects in tissues and causes swelling (edema) in them. You've probably heard of it, if not experienced if yourself if you've had lymph nodes removed to treat breast cancer. Or if you were treated with high doses of radiation. You've probably also heard, "Go easy lifting the groceries. And don't lift your kids anymore or break out the dumb bells."

    But in December 2010 a report came out stating that weight training reduced risk for arm swelling by 36% in women who had nodal dissections and then did supervised weight training for one year. The reduction was actually higher in women who had the most lymph nodes removed - 70 percent in participants who had five or more removed.

    Based on these latest results, breast cancer rehabilitation should be the standard of care for conditioning and strengthening the arm, and ultimately for preventing injury, said Kathryn Schmitz, PhD, MPH, the lead investigator from the University of Pennsylvania's Abramson Cancer Center. The 77 women in the study looking at 154  breast cancer survivors who had lymph nodes removed, participated in twice weekly, 90-minute classes. They used free weights and machines and were closely supervised.

    Ooookay. Started my diet officially yesterday, anddd joined the gym finally. I am LOSING these 10 lbs before my surgery (3/22) if it kills me! I'm 151.2 now.

    Swam last night... sort of. Found I could do back strokes but nothing on front (crawl, breast stroke, etc.) Felt good to be doing *something* though (other than taking up space).

    I hope to post a decent weight loss on Monday....I have been so incredibly tired, that I was too tired to eat the salad I made, and had to put it to the side for a short nap.  Now if I could just miss a few meals!!!  Anyone else get just plain dead tired even 4 months after last chemo?  I'm walking my foster dog 4x a day, and tending to the house and yard, sleeping 8 sound hours.....doing South Beach, which is very healthy....can't explain it....Undecided  any ideas?

    My therapist taught me how to do 'tapping' to help with my chi, and I'm temporarily energized...love doing it, just wish it would last!

    tnbcRuth:  I had adrenal exhaustion before and after chemo & surgery.  Still working on this one, because all I want to do is lay around the house.  It has to get better, right?  Or maybe the South Beach Diet isn't giving you the proper nutrition to get you through your day!

    MBJ - You might have hit the nail on the head!  I think it is definitely my adrenal gland acting up.

    I looked it up and I have a lot of the symptoms of something called Cushings disease...hate to diagnose via the internet, so I am going to see my dr. first thing next week.  I also read that my kidney stone might be playing into this as well. Thank you for taking the time to address this!Laughing

    I didn't weigh in this week because I was hungry and ate everything in sight last week...maybe Monday it will be better..I need some motivation...maybe if i put a bathing suit on and saw the rolls of blubber it would do the trick.
