I have Stage 1, Grade 1 breast cancer. I am scheduled for a lumpectomy tomorrow and scared to death. Not so much of the surgery but the Path report that comes after. I have talked to several people who had the surgery and found out from the Path report their cancer was larger and they went from radiation to chemo. How often does that happen? How do you get through all the fear and anxiety from the diagnosis to the surgery to the treatment to the fear of recurrence? Thanks.

edwards750, I don't have any medical information to offer you but did want to offer my moral support.  I had two lumpectomies last year, one in February and one in August.  The surgeries themselves were pretty easy and didn't even need pain pills.  In August they removed some lymph nodes so I had to have a drain which was a bigger pain than the surgery itself.  I will be thinking of you and hoping that your path report is good and that you are still, and will always be, no greater than Stage I.

The lumpectomy is step one. That's all you have to do right now. Yes the paths will be turning up but deal with one thing at a time. With cancer, don't borrow trouble. There's no reason to think they'll find anything unusual or unexpected. I know you're scared, this site is full of women who have been where you are right now and the vast majority of us are still here years later. You will be too and now that you have chosen us, you must keep us posted. Good luck, (Hugs)

Best of luck tomorrow!  I had a lumpectomy on Feb 8th and it was a breeze - I didn't need any pain killers and could get back to my normal routine by the next day.

I see my doctor today for the first time since surgery and will get my report --

I am not really worried - like the others have said, deal with one thing at a time -

Good luck with your lumpectomy, I'll have mine this Friday, and like you I'm stage 1, should be no big deal. I like that saying "Don't borrow trouble"

You'll do fine but I wish you a truck fill of luck anyway :) Don't fret the pathology (WAY easier said than done) Be happy you are starting out at stage one and that it was caught :)))))) That is what counts today...I pray the rest will just fall into place and you will soon be on your way to the end of this bleep on the radar of life <3

Good luck on your surgery tomorrow. I know this time is a bit scary. I was fine until I got to the hospital and had my pre surgical mamo etc.  You will do well and there are many people here to support you.  I hope the pathology shows no node involvement.  As to your question on chemo, many things go into that decision. Its based on your doctors opinion, your pathology, her2 , size, grade, hormone receptor levels and lymph node status. As well they'll look at possible vascular invasion. As your doctor for the Onco test. Its for people who are without lymph node involvement (normally) and hormone receptor positive. It gives you one more piece of information as related to reoccurrence percent to help with the decision.

Goodluck and sending positive vibes your way!!
