PET was ok!
Well, ladies I guess ya'll are stuck with me & what a great place to be...with the Stage III gals! I did my first PET since chemo & BMX and it was normal! What a relief, I thought it would be but just to hear it out loud was so nice. I know it will never be over but it was a small victory in this battle. I tried to explain that to my DH after he had to call & tell everyone I was in remission, he irritated me slightly doing that. I start rads next week and the arimidex is going good. Thanks ladies for always being here.

Congratulations!!! That is a HUGE victory, are you kidding me?

Congratulations, jenny. Every clean scan is a cause for celebration. Like you dodged another bullet.
I know what you mean though about what people are told. A lot of people that don't know any better think a clean scan means you are cured, and it's all over. Although we'd like to think we might be, we also know that can change at any time, and we'll have to be vigilant for the rest of our lives.

Great..........
Keep on kicking the" bad guys "away from us........
So happy
-
congrats Jenny!! may you have many more clear scans!
Do you mind if I hijack this thread to see if everyone gets scans after finishing tx, and if yes, how often? My onc doesn't do any kind of follow up (except for regular mammos, ultrasounds, and breast MRIs - but nothing to check if the cancer has metastasized) so I'm wondering...
-
That's wonderful news! I'm so happy for you.
-
YIPPIE, I LOVE hearing good news!
And Latte, I'm wondering the same thing too as my onc is a "watch and see" person too. How friggin frustrating!!!

Yea, yea, yea!! Love to hear news like this. Hooray for you!
-
jennyboog, It never hurts to have the doctor tell us everything looks good. It feels great to have it confirmed. Great news.
Latte, No scans or anything. Only tumor markers every 6 months. I don't know the results of the tumor markers because it's too stressful for me. I told my oncologist to just keep the information to himself unless he feels it could make a difference in my treatment.
-
Great news Jennyboog!
Gitane- I agree never hurts to hear a doctor say everything looks good!

Way to go, Jenny!

woohooo Jenny!

Thanks everyone....my onc is a watch and see dr too & I don't know if I can deal with that. She is getting ready to leave (I'm seen at a military hospital) and I'll be getting another one...this is the second time that has happen since this whole thing. I'm not sure if I should switch to a civilian provider at this time. My rad onc said, he understands that it matters to "us" that we do scans & find out but to them it doesn't, whether we find out now or 3 mths from now it won't matter you'll still be stage IV. It upset me a bit...how can it not matter when we find out, isn't that why some people find their cancer in time and other's don't. I mean I understand what he's saying but clearly these dr's have never had cancer & know the anxiety from it all.
@ Latte...I don't mind you using this thread, it's a good question to find out. My dr didn't even want tumor markers and said we'd do chest exams due to BMX and just look for other symptoms.

I missed this Jenny-I am so happy!

Congrats Jenny! Always nice to hear good news.
Latte, I had a PET/CT scan a few months after radiation (onc wanted to wait because he thinks things come up while on treatment). I ended up having a nuclear bone scan and MRI after the PET/CT to rule out mets because of "suspicious" stuff. Turned out to be nothing according to bone scan and MRI. I do tumor marker tests every time I see my onc which was every three months until October last year when my tumor marker went up. I had to go through a whole bunch of stuff, PET/CT, MRI, nuclear bone scan and thyroid and neck biopsies. Again, turned out to be nothing to worry about. Of course, I am VERY, VERY happy and grateful for the result but also ended up thinking what if I didn't do the tumor marker test in the first place? Imagine how much $$$ my insurance would have saved on tests and scans. I hope for the day that I will have the courage to say NO to tumor markers or any other tests unless (keeping my fingers crossed) there are symptoms that need to be addressed. Until that day comes, I will be a regular at the "waiting room". I believe I'll have to do monthly onc visits at least in the next few months.
Thanks.

Would it be terrible to ask for a happy dance for me too? Just got the results of my first-ever PET scan. All is clear. It is a great feeling to know that everything I have done and had done to me for the last 16 months actually worked! YEAH!!!
-
Congrats Leslie! Celebrate!
-
Happy Dance! Yea!! Good news is always welcome here, Leslie! (How many exclamation points is too many? Who cares!!!)
-
So glad to hear that your scans were clear - doing the happy dance. Whoo Hooooo!!!!
-
Take a bow, ladies! It's a lot of hard work getting to those first end of treatment clear scans. Congratulations!
-
Congrats Leslie...nice to know all we went through worked, now if we can just keep it away.
-
So happy for you - Keep the faith - that you will stay NED! My Dr. doesn't do much follow-up either but I did end up having 2 chest CT's last year for chronic bone pain. His theory is that after chemo and esp. rads they will find something. And there is spot on one of my lungs but he isn't worried about it. I would actually like a pet scan just for piece of mind - I think! Many congrats and hugs to you!!!!
-
Great news!
-
So happy for you!

That's awesome!!!
-
Another scan result - this time my echocardiogram. Well, looks like my ejection fraction is now in the 40s. A definite side-effect of herceptin. They will rescan the heart in May and hopefully will see improvement. Thanks all for sharing in my and jennyboog's excitement of having clear PET scans! I think this makes for an awesome weekend, right ladies?
-
Makes for an awesome weekend and week...everything was so beautiful to me this week, like a weight was lifted if only for now. It felt for once that this was over even though I know it never will be, if that makes sense. I have a spot on my lung also...it seems like we all do. So far it's looking good and doc's not worried just going to keep an eye on it, I guess if it was something big it would have showed up on PET right?
I seem to get tired so easy now, does anyone else? I know I just had surgery a few weeks ago but it's got to be the chemo or arimidex. I use to have so much energy & now I do a few things and I'm done.

Good to hear good news. And look at all the IIIc-ers posting and doing well!
