    I am so sorry for the loss of your, sister, Lisa.  Breast Cancer -- sucks!  Having to say good-bye to several fighting sisters in PINK, it is devastating and senseless.

    March 10, 2007. That was the date of our first San Diego Lunch Bunch. Lisa was there. She knew so much and I looked up to her for being her own advocate. She taught me to ask for what I wanted and get what I needed. She took me to the Del Mar dog show one time after a Lunch Bunch. I throughly enjoyed spending that afternoon with her. She was the kindest person.

    What a special lady and she will surely be missed--I remember the first time I met her --she had on a beautiful red wig and with her blue eyes--she was stunning--will always rember her smile.

    Hello - Not sure if this is the right place or moment.  I feel for your loss and send my wishes to Lisa's family.  My sister was just diagnosed with lump-form DCIS High Grade Comedo Necrosis. Her MRI came back showing nothing else!  She is now seeing sugeons and plans on a a lumpectomy. She lives in the Escondido/Carlsbad area and has seen Dr. Ragjopal at Scripps Encinitas (recommended by her PCP) who she liked, but would like some second and third opinions. I  was hoping someone here could help. I posted in the DCIS forum but didn't find much on your area. She is new to this, so it is difficult figuring out her "team". She does not have an oncologist or anyone else at this point...Thank you for your thoughts.

    Hi Syd,

    My doctors are in the Sharp HealthCare Community.  I'm in the heart of the city of San Diego.

    I would opt for a mastectomy, not a lumpectomy.  If she wants reconstruction, she can do it immediately or later.  I am just learning that when the statistics came out about lumpectomy/radiation versus mastectomy, the data was skewed.  They were basing it on really old women in Europe who were going to die anyway, not young people in their 40's and 50's.

    I made the mistake of choosing lumpectomy and radiation.  Cancer grew in the same radiated area.  Radiation made it impossible for me to get a decent reconstruction using tissue expanders and implants.  I'm still going through recon, 8 days post last major surgery.

    SydSyd - I went to Dr Kroener at Scripps Green in La Jolla. The thing I like about Green is that they have a coordinator who sets up all initial appointment for you - onc., surgeon & radiologist.

    I liked Dr Kroener a lot, but some people really don't like her. If you sister wants straightforward & honest, she's great. If she wants sweet bedside manner, go somewhere else!

    SIMS, LISA TAYLOR Dec. 22, 1954 to Feb. 10, 2011 Lisa Taylor Sims, born December 22, 1954, in Corpus Christi TX, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday after a long battle against breast cancer. A long time resident of San Diego and a 20+ year dental hygienist, Lisa gave new meaning to the words "courageous battle" and "stubborn resistance" to the disease that finally took her life. More than once - more than a dozen times, Lisa overcame impossible odds, invasive surgeries, rare and mysterious infections, and highly objectionable side effects in order to continue living a life she held so dear and never took for granted. She cherished her time spent in her rose garden and with her two pug dogs. Lisa is survived by her beloved daughter, Taylor LaNier Gibson of San Diego, brother Richard Lanier of Midlothian VA, sister Ellen Sims Langille and brother-in-law Walter Langille of Pacifica, as well many members of a loving and extended family. She will be fondly remembered by close friends Esperanza and Gerry, as well as the San Diego Lunch Bunch, a delightful bevy of gals from bc.org with whom Lisa shared much laughter and tears. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Point Loma Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, February 15. Interment will be at the Sims family plot in Charlotte, NC. Donations may be made to Cancer Angels of San Diego (http://www.cancerangelsofsandiego.com/), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing assistance to local Stage IV breast cancer patients, whose generous contributions allowed Lisa to continue living in her own treasured little Craftsman bungalow while she was undergoing treatment.

    From another San Diegan... I am so sorry to hear of Lisa's passing. Though I never joined the San Diego group, the postings would catch my eye, and I admired Lisa's spirit. Rest in Peace Lisa.

    For SydSyd, I have heard wonderful things about Dr. Ragjopal. Though I am in central San Diego (Kensington) my PCP is in La Jolla, so I was referred to Dr. Ragjopal up the coast. Through the whirlwind of tests and diagnosis I ended up with a different surgeon but I know of others treated by her that were/are very very happy with her. She is spoken of to me as brilliant. Sorry this is second-hand, but hope it will help.

    SydSyd-

    Dr. Ragjopal was my breast surgeon. She is truely brillant and caught my cancer literally by accident. That's another story though. Your sister would be in excellent hands. Dr. Ragjopal's mother died from breast cancer so she is an advocate like no other doctor I know.

    I was trying to make Lisa's funeral tomorrow but not sure I can get all the way there and back in the time I have available.

    Are you going to the services?  I was thinking of going, maybe wearing pink?  I don't know if that is inappropriate.  I would do it out of respect.

    I am still out town - and don't return until Thursday - so will miss Lisa's memorial service.  Please give Ellen and Taylor a hug for me.  Lisa was one of a kind and I will miss her dearly. Liz - thanks for posting her obituary from the UT.

    I also was a pt of Dr Rajgopal ( a partner -for additional surgeries) who I like very much--my original surgeon was Dr Jane Poretta who was great and is now out of the area. Also-Dr Abhay Gupta did the plastic surgery f/u for myself as well as my daughter's double mast and recon. Radiation- Dr. Eva Lean in Vista is fabulous and Parroly,Siddique,Oblon in Oceanside are a great onc group. Depends on what needs to be done and when--but they can all help you to make the right decisions.

    Sorry I wasn't at the funeral today. I was out of the house, walked to my car & the battery was dead. And the cell phone battery was dead. So I had to walk home & by then it was clear, there was no way I could make the funeral. I hope it was wonderful, and that you gave Lisa's family hugs from all of us who couldn't make it.

    I didn't make it to the service for reasons I can't even explain but in honor of Lisa's devotion and love for her dogs I took mine for a long hike and told them all about her. Rest in peace dear friend.
