I say yes, you say no, OR People are Strange

The ignorance about Canada is astounding. We don't need solar panels--although many people use them--because many of us use natural gas to heat our homes (GREEN energy). We also use hydro-electricity (that means we use water--in case you don't know what that means). We EXPORT to the US our expertise in hydroelectricity (Vermont to name one state) and oil (that is in OUR province of Alberta). We have more oil than the US does and more fresh water. You need both and import from us.
I realize you are trying to start something here, and you obviously take great pleasure in doing so. I just thought you should know how ignorant you sound--but then maybe you know that already? If not, allow me tell you.
Oh, and we have more guns than you do. We use them for hunting ANIMALS.

I don't post much in this thread but with all the discussion about Canada, I thought I would share a copy of something I read recently.
By the way, I used to be an alien
(a legal one!) but then I thought better of it and decided to come home to the land of Mounties and "Eh!"

What's so special about Canada?
1. Smarties (not sold in the USA)2. Crispy Crunch, Coffee Crisp (not sold in the USA)
3. Canadian Football: A bigger field, one less down, and we have bigger balls!
4. Baseball is Canadian - 1st game June 4, 1838 - Ingersoll, ON
5. Lacrosse is Canadian - okay, maybe this one isn't a big seller.
6. Hockey is Canadian - well, duh!
7. Basketball is Canadian - yup, it's true!
8. Apple pie is Canadian - so there!
9. Mr. Dress-up beats Mr. Rogers (or would have, when they were alive)
10. Tim Horton's beats Dunkin' Donuts
11. In the war of 1812, started by the U.S., Canadians pushed the Americans back past their White House. Then we burned it, and most of Washington ... We got bored because they ran away. Then, we came home and partied..... That's how we see it, anyway.
12. Canada has the largest French population that never surrendered to Germany.
13. Canada has the largest English population that never ever surrendered or withdrew during any war to anyone, anywhere. EVER! (Sure we got clobbered in the odd battle but prevailed in ALL the wars)
14. Our civil war was fought in a bar and lasted a little over an hour.
15. The only person who was arrested in our civil war was an American mercenary, he slept in and missed the whole thing. He showed up just in time to get caught.
16. A Canadian invented Standard Time.
17. The Hudsons Bay Company once owned over 10% of the earth's surface and is still around as the world's oldest company (unfortunately now owned by an American however)
18. The average dog sled team can kill and devour a full grown human in under 3 minutes. (That why we don't need guns!)
19. We know what to do with the parts of a buffalo.
20. We don't marry our kin-folk... (no offense to those who do!)
21. We invented ski-doos, jet-skis, Velcro, zippers, insulin, penicillin and the telephone. And short wave radios which save countless lives each year.
22. We have ALL frozen our tongues to something metal and lived to tell about it.
23. A Canadian invented Superman.
24. We have coloured money.
25. Our elections only take one day!

Sarah needs to relax. It was a joke.
Vice President Biden thinks its funny when the Onion makes up stories about him. Here's this one complete with photo shopped picture.
http://www.theonion.com/articles/the-vicepresidency-of-joe-biden,18444/
And this is a hilarious video of a news spoof of Biden as the star of a Hennessy ad campaign. Totally untrue but looks so real.
http://www.theonion.com/video/biden-criticized-for-appearing-in-hennessy-ads,14392/
-
notself, the line about "the American people deserve better than a demanding beauty queen who's clearly in over her head" had me scrambling to see if this was from The Onion! Just seemed to me too sly to have really been said by SP! Apparently, it did originate on a satire site, and US Weekly thought it was real!
With "unemployment at nine percent" -- maybe US Weekly oughta do their part by hiring a few fact checkers!
-
Linda, Thinking about mounties......sigh.

-
Vote for your favorite Biden "news" from the Onion.
-
ShirleyHughes,
Who on this thread ever denied that illegals were abused?
-
Beesie -- I can agree with all but #19 and #22! Haven't a clue about buffalo parts, and my mother warned me about never putting my tongue where I shouldn't LOL!
As for border crossings, I think there may be several Americans who still don't know that Canada is the U.S's largest trading partner. I've been in border crossing lineups that held me up for well over 2 hours. The crossings at Buffalo and Detroit are the busiest in all of North America (and probably the world). Imagine having to fill out forms in order to get over those bridges! Boggles the mind!

the only part of the Super Bowl I watched was the national anthem and did not even notice the flub in lyrics as I was so moved with emotion I was actually crying...that to me is what a great song and performance should do...lose you in the moment so you are not looking to call out mistakes. That is just the way I see it.
-
I think it's funny that so many people believed that SP would actually say such things. When life mirrors reality? LOL
-
Beesie -- I suffered in the US without Shreddies cereal.
I had a 6 month consulting contract with the Mounties in Ottawa. Mouhouhahahahhahahahahaaaaa. Of course I signed a confidentiality agreement and cannot comment on speedos, etc...
-
I remember when my DH wore speedos. Hmmmm!
-
Did y'all know that most of our foreign oil comes from Canada? 'Tis true!
-
I *love* the Onion's goofs on Biden . . . the Hennessy ad piece had me laughing out loud. (And the Cheney weed killer bit at the end was a nice touch.)

-
I can't believe no one posted this. Sorry Linda for stealing it.
Beesie.....hehe!
-
I want to go to there. MINE?
-
I'm not too crazy about big dogs, but I'd take the dog too....hehe!
-
As my daughter would say...
Duh...duh....duh....DAYUM!
-
Yes, all our Mounties look like that. MMmmmmmmm
-
About that list, I don't know if PiP agrees with #10
(Tim Horton's >>> DD)
-
Ann, I wasn't going to mention that. It is part of my training to assimilate myself into the American culture.
-
I don't know about the donuts, but DD definitely has Timmie's beat on the coffee!
-
Oh E. And here I thought you were one of our Canadians who had infiltrated the US.
Oh no! Did I just blow your cover?
-
We have doughnuts, not donuts. Timbits definitely win over DD munchkins. Starbucks rules in the coffee world. DD and Tim's sucks.
-
Three things:
1) Somebody upstream (previous page) misplaced her sense of humor.
2) I thought February was going to be an SP-free month, but notself and Shirley went and broke the spell.
3) Beesie, you know I love ya, but, ... some of the claims on that list of yours look suspicious. I'm gonna have to do some research on #8 and #21. I know #24 is true, but, hey -- we have colored money now, too. Only ours doesn't have an extra "u" in it.
More later. We're in the middle of the original version of True Grit.

[Edited to add a 4th: Now I know there are undercover Canadians here!]

Well it seems that Canada vs US is about more than hockey! I love going to the US and have always found the people friendly and welcoming. I must say though, it truly amazes me how little Americans know about their largest trading partner and yet, we Canadians take a deep interest in learning about the US and other parts of the world. It all starts with us in elementary school. We do learn some US history and geography and of course the politics is always filled with excitement...ok maybe more drama than excitment.
We took our kids to the US on a road trip and the goal was to make them learn all 50 states and their capitals. It made for a great road trip but of course that was before the days of vehicles being equipped with DVD players. My Dad made us learn the same when I was young. Not only did we need to know the states and their capitals but we had to know the states in alphabetical order
We also had to know all of the countries that are in Europe. Maybe that is why I have continued to be curious and knowledge seeking in my adult life. I love learning about other countries, other cultures etc. Because the one thing I know for sure is that most of what you see and read in the
media is BS. I find great pleasure in talking to real people from real places to gain my knowledge.
The Limbaughs, Becks, Matthews and Olbermans are all full of crap.
Someone mentioned earlier about sealing off the borders like Germany did. Well here is a little
FYI for you. Canada is the second largest country in the world and the US is 4th. Germany is 62.
Then throw Mexico into the mix and you have an enormous amount of land and sea to cover. Then take into consideration the topography of the landscape and it would be impossible to seal the
borders.
Shokk: BTW what does seal the border mean? And one other thing Shokk....what does Stop Canada mean in your tagline?
KK....I love a man in uniform...a speedo not so much but couldn't you posssibly disclose some
sweet, naughty details about our RCMP's? I would really appreciate it and it may make me sleep
better tonight.
-
I think we should have better borders to keep the US seniors from coming to Canada for our cheap prescription drugs.
For your amusement, sorry I don't know how to make it clickable.
-
I can't stand Limbaugh. Even though he apologized to M, J. Fox, the nerve of him to make fun of him and his disease. A man like that is not credible IMO!
-
otter,
Sorry 'bout that, but I did present some funny Biden stuff to make up for it.
