Been away a few days (from the Boards not the cold and snow).  I was in such pain on Thursday I took an oxycontin (the long acting - 12 hour kind).  I got up on Friday and felt nauseous, dizzy and generally miserable.  Felt like that most of yesterday.  I think it was the oxycontin. It is 5:16 a.m. and I am feeling decidedly better.  I am dumping the oxycontin!

As to the weather, it had rained (is raining?) last night.  I don't think its ice.  After reading some of these posts (19 below) I am not going to complain about the cold.

Jo1955 ... that is extremely cold for south Texas - to get ice.  As a kid we lived in El Paso.

kmccraw - Hope you are feeling better today - sending gentle hugs ((Hugs)) to you.

Yesterday the local weather said it would be colder in El Paso than in Fairbanks, Alaska - imagine that.  Texas did get really cold.

Sun is out today and we are supposed to be in the 60s.  No more freeze warnings.  Time go uncover the plants as assess the damage. UGH!  Guess it has to be done sometime.

kmcccraw, hope today finds you feeling much better.

Jo, so happy you have an answer and that you are back online.  We were worried.

Marlegal, your story about "bribes" reminded me of when DS1 was 2.  He was not happy about sitting on Santa's lap and was so unhappy.  Santa asked me to sit on one knee to help out the situation (Poor Santa, I was 6 months pregnant).  That still didn't stop the tears, so I leaned over and told DS that if he smiled I would take him to Chik Filet.  I have an adorable picture of us on Santa's lap with DS with the most forced smile a little one could have.

Checked the 10 day forecast for Hawaii.  Rain six of the eight days we will be there, but temps with 80 highs down to 68 lows, I can deal with that.

Hawaii - I am so jealous - DH has no interest in the islands.  That's okay!  At least I can get him to do the cruise thing.

Thanks for the get well wishes ... still a little unsteady.  I took those pills 2 x day when in rehab and they never affected me like this before.  Of course, I could have a slight case of the flu.

Its is 36 degrees so life is good.  It is also raining - perhaps it will wash away most of the snow still on the ground.  Tomorrow it is going up to 48 degrees.  Jo - I'm jealous too!

Currently 68 degrees and raining ever so slightly.  Enjoyed sittinog outside earlier under our covered part of our deck watching it rain and the dogs playing chasing the ducks and sand hill cranes.  I love Florida.

DH had never been to an island until we married in '05.  This will be our 3rd trip to Hawaii, but none of them have been without strings attached.

The first time is that we stayed with my DS & DIL, and stayed on their inflatable bed.  And accompianied them to things they had going.  Second time we met my parents there but mother got sick, which caused a damper on our plans.  This time will be to be with DS2 for his surgery.  Someday we will return for a vacation.

the snow has started, again.  The accumulation prediction has been decreased to 6 to 8 inches in my area. Great, but since its supposed to go back and forth between rain and snow over night and again tomorrow, I'm not sure the amount really matters.  Its the 1/8 inch of ice that will be the problem.  Sigh.

    Hi everyone!

Suzette glad you got home safely and that you had a refreshing break.

Sorry all you ladies who are still struggling with snow and ice storms, but I have 92 here today which would be lovely except for the high humidity and I am dying!!!  Have been walking around with a damp towel around my neck all day and slept with it over me last night.  Summer has finally hit!!!  Have to play competition tennis tomorrow - don't quite know how I am going to cope with thrashing myself on the court for 3+ hours in this heat...

raeinnz - I know about the heat and humidity.  Can be brutal sometimes.

Good luck on the courts tomorrow.  You will make it.  You will find a way.

Thanks ladies - I take care now - had heat stroke once when I was a silly young thing and I NEVER want to experience that again.  I drink water and an energy drink that replaces salts etc and I wear a cooling gel type scarf which keeps my temp down to bearable. Have just got back from a walk with my friend and am dripping - it is 6.29pm and still 90.

4 inches of slushy snow, broke the shovel clearing off the deck.  Temps in the mid 30's.  1/4 inch of ice coating everything, and the wind is picking up.  I'm predicting power outage sometime today.

NativeMainer - Bet you are sick of this winter weather.  Hope you don't lose power.  We did on Friday and was out for 16 hours.  Never thought I would have to wear a coat inside the house - it got down to 59 degrees inside.  I live in deep South Texas and 59 is really cold for us.  The outside temp was hovering around 30 all day.

I have an Uncle who lives outside San Antionio.  When he comes home in the winter he's always complaining about the cold.  When he comes home in the summer he's always complaining about the cold, too!  You guys must be miserable.  Fortunately, this stuff will only last another month or two, then we'll be into mud season.

NativeMainer - I lived in San Antonio for 10 years before moving further south.  I have seen the wicked weather up there too.  So, yes for us, we are miserable.

I've lived all over.  Born and raised in Louisiana and then with my husband's Navy career:  Florida, New York, Great Lakes, Illinois, Pearl Harbor Hawaii, New London, Connecticutt, Tulsa Oklahoma and now back to Florida.  Traveled quite a bit too.  We ended up in Florida after living in Hawaii.  We decided we just do not like cold weather and can tolerate the hot summers much better.

67 degrees, cloudy skies and possiblity of rain tonight and tomorrow.

(thought I submitted this but don't see it...if this is repetitive, sorry!!)

Funny how a few weeks of 20 or lower can make a day where it was 41 seem balmy!  The sun was bright all day and melted lots of the snow, except on some of the streets where the sun never seems to reach...they till have a foot or so on their lawns.  I can actually see a few spots on my lawn where the grass shows instead of the snow - yay!!!

After several days of freezing temps and a freak ice storm in deep South Texas, it was back in the mid 70s day and the sun was shining.  I actually got to go out wearing sandals.  Love it!  Supposed to get another cold front early this week so this was all short lived.  Can't wait for summer.

    Lololololol Sheila.

96% humidity and temp 81 today - tennis was a mission.  Drank over 3 litres of water in 3 hours and another when I got home - sweated most of it out though.  Down to 77 with showers tomorrow but humidity still up there - ugh.

Hot and sticky overnight but cooler this morning - 8am now - and the air feels clearer so hopefully the forecasters were wrong and the humidity will be gone for now.

Sunny and 65 degrees here today.  Much better than the freezing temps a few days ago.  Another front coming and more cold weather on Wed - UGH!

Sherry - We will catch the cold sometime after you.  Let's close the freezer door further north of you and call it a day.

Well, so much for a cooler day!!!  Not as sticky though but HOT.  Cooler temps predicted for the South Island but we are still under the influence of a Northerly bringing hot air from the Equatorial areas so it will stay warm for us - 74 tomorrow with showers they say.  Said the same for today but we got to about 81 and it was fine all day!  We will see.

Got to 50 degrees yesterday.  In the upper 30's as I write this.  We have had just enough "warmer" weather to melt most of the snow.  In fact, it was so pleasant yesterday the dogs and I sat on the front porch for a little while.

I don't think we can breathe a real sigh of relief until March is over!
