I would love some info
I am a newbie (diagnosed with probable stage I or early II IDC on January 13) and though I know everyone is different, I am trying to gather some info. Most of my pathology will not be back till later this week and I know some of it won't be back until after my lumpectomy, which is 2 weeks away. I know part of the answer to my question also depends upon my hormone receptor and Her2 status and the actual size of the tumor when it is removed. Possible chemo has been mentioned by my surgeon more than once, and also by the radiology oncologist with whom we consulted on Monday. I am pre-menopausal and my tumor is grade 3. We don't know anything else yet and of course I am anxious. So what I am wondering is:
Are you pre or post menopausal?
What stage are you?
What is your tumor grade?
What is your hormone receptor and Her2 status?
Which treatments were recommended whether you took them or not?
Thanks for your help!
Nancy

Are you pre or post menopausal?
was peri-menopausal and became chemo-pausal immediately on chemo. Never had a period on chemoWhat stage are you?
after surgery stage IIB (My BS thought I would be IIIA before surgery)What is your tumor grade?
3What is your hormone receptor and Her2 status?
30% ER+ 5%PR +, HER2+ Highly postiveWhich treatments were recommended whether you took them or not?
Bilateral Mastectomy including 1 sentinel biopsy (4 nodes) and removal of level I node (10 nodes)s on the other side, 6 tx of taxotere, carboplatin, herceptin followed by 11 more herceptin, Anastrozole 5 years---------------------------------
Just finished chemo 2.5 week ago.

Nancy,
Are you pre or post menopausal? Premenopausal
What stage are you? Stage IWhat is your tumor grade? 2
What is your hormone receptor and Her2 status? ER/PR positiveWhich treatments were recommended whether you took them or not? One NCI said no chemo. My second opinion said chemo. I am doing the chemo (TC X4). My oncotype was 17 and I had angiolymphatic invasion present. That made me decide on chemo...oh and the fact that I was a Grade 2 tumor. I also did the BLMX.
Once you get your pathology, you can start really working through this. I know how hard the waiting is.....believe me. I decided for sure on chemo yesterday and feel a sense of relief that I made the decsion. Now I just have to get myself through it.......
Keep us posted. Good luck!

Post-menopausal.
Stage IIa (because of the size of my tumor). IDC.
Grade 3.
HER pos, ER pos.
The following was recommended and I took it: 4 rounds of A/C, followed by 12 weeks of Taxol. When I began Taxol I also began Herceptin, which I took for 6 months. After chemo I had a lumpectomy, margins and lymph nodes clear; then several weeks of radiation. I'm now on anastrozole for 5 years (one year into it).
It's an extremely anxious time for you... and if you go through chemo, I won't sugar coat it, it's not a lot of fun, but the SE's are much more controllable than they were even 5 years ago for most, and you can do it. Hang in there and a big hug.

Are you pre or post menopausal? Premenapausal, chemopause after 2nd rnd of AC, oophorectomy after chemo.
What stage are you? IIaWhat is your tumor grade? Grade 2
What is your hormone receptor and Her2 status? >95% ER/PR positive, HER2 negativeWhich treatments were recommended whether you took them or not? Three opinions recommended chemo and radiation. I completed DD AC/DD Taxol in November and will be completing 33 radiation treatments this week. Remember the stage doesn't tell the whole story there is great variability within each stage re: tumor size, size of nodal mets, lymphovascular invasion. The treatment recommendations you get will be tailored to you based on your pathology, age and menapausal status.
BTW, my estrogen/progresterone status came back on my initial pathology from the fine needle aspiration. The hardest time is waiting for all the information to come in. I wanted a plan immediately and my oncologist said repeatedly we have to wait for the final pathology and node status. Those were the hardest 2-3 weeks!

Post Menopausal
Stage 1a
Grade 2
ER/PR+ 100% HER2-
6 weeks of radiation - Tamoxifen for 5 years.
My MO told me after initial biopsy report that chemo was not needed. DId not do a oncotype dx test - said it was not needed in my case since the test is very expensive and he had all the information he needed. Nodes were clear and margin test was back in a week - clear also.
The percent on the ER/PR tells you the prognosis for recovery. In my case, I had a 100% chance of recovery.
The waiting is the hardest part but you need all the information to make a good decision on treatment. Even though some of our diagnosis is the same, we all make different personal choices of treatment. You will do the same.

Pre menopausal until chemo, stage 1, grade 3, triple negative; unilateral mastectomy, 4 rounds taxotere & cytoxin; age 44 at diagnosis
Once pathology comes back you'll have some info to sink your teeth into. I would have been a no for chemo based on all factores EXCEPT the triple negative status

Hi Nancy. I was diagnosed on 2/2/11 and offered a lumpectomy on my right breast for ILDC with the left breast biopsy not showing any signs of cancer. At the recommendation of both my BS and Onc I had a BLMX on 2/16/11. This of course did show DCIS in my left breast so I am grateful I just got it over with in one surgery. I am post-menopausal, Stage IIB, Grade 1, ER/PR+ HERS2-. I meet with my Onc on Wed. and based on conversations with both my BS and Reconstruction Surgeon am confident I'm headed for chemo therapy. I may be bald, I may be boobless for a while but I'm confident I'll be feeling better than I have in years in the not too distant future and here for my kids for a long time. I wish you all the best and hope to stay in touch.
