Lynn18: Never too late.
Well it's time for me to increase things now that the diet reccurrence correlation was made ever so clear today. I will now look at every meal as a potential to help or hurt.

Lynn: Congratulations on being almost done! I think the majority of us were unable to begin working on our bodies until after our treatments were done. I hear radiation can make you really tired, so go easy and listen to your body so you don't over tire yourself.

MBJ: Thank you! I am going to walk each day and hopefully get my stamina back. Also trying to eat a lot more fruits and veges. I just found out there is a yoga place in my town that has a class for us (people going through treatment or recovering from cancer) and I am going to try it.

The conference last week set me back a bit as far as the exercise goes but I'm back into it again and today have done 11,620 steps on my pedometer. My weight is down about a pound overall since the start of the 10 # takeoff.

Sugar: Yay for a pound!!!
Lynne: I signed up way before my exchange surgery for the free yoga in my area and now I have to wait because my PT says I am not strong enough to do yoga. I just started using 2 & 5 lb weights. Baby steps!

I'd like to join the 10lb challenge if it is not to late. I weighed in at 134 this morning, That is 5 lbs heavier than when I started this mess, my radiation oncologist said it was probably more caused by stress than anything else, but I know better. I lost weight while undergoing A/C and then once they started feeding me those steroids during Taxol that is all she wrote. All I want to do is eat and I want stuff that is not good for me. Need to get back on track. Exercise is not a problem I get in an hour of cardio 4-5 times a week, need to start lifting hand weights. I have to do a lot of reps with light hand weights because of disc problems in my neck, so I can't run or jump at all, it is a challenge to say the least. Getting old is the pits.

GuyGirl- I added you to the top. Good luck! Can you work on an elliptical? I have neck problems too, and a knee that acts up once in awhile. Yoga was no go due to neck; running no go due to knee.
I do lead an active lifestyle though, and am not too into junk food--- with the possible exception of EC (emergency chocolate).

Hi All - back up to 170 today....been yo-yoing between 167 and 170 on my home scale - always a bit higher on the doc scale so I'm definitely going the wrong way. Been making myself have salad for lunch every day and eat veggies first at dinner....except last night when I had the BLT pizza from California Pizza Kitchen - I rationalized that it was sort of like a salad/veggies. It will be easier next week b/c I begin Cycle 3 of the trial and will feel like crap for most of the week which tends to reduce the amount I eat - not exactly the healthy way to do it I know. I've also been increasing my activity this week as I feel really good (it's my week off) and I plan to try and keep it up next week. I went back and reread the info on reduced recurrence for TN's with an active lifestyle - also read alot of the info on metformin and it's pretty clear that lower glycemic index is a good thing so that is helping me renew my resolve to focus on nutrition and exercise.

It's so calming and relaxing.

In one study at the Beltsville Human Nutrition Center at the USDA, participants who consumed a diet rich in high Resistant Starch foods were able to lower their post-meal blood sugar and insulin response by up to 38%.
Eat the carbs you want, but you need to combine them so that they don't cause a spike in your blood sugar. Instead of eating white rice, switch to brown and combine it with beans, corn, or other high Resistant Starch foods that keep your blood sugar more balanced than low-carb diets.
Carbs speed up metabolism
Carbs high in Resistant Starch speed up your metabolism and your body's other natural fat burners. As Resistant Starch moves though your digestive system, it releases fatty acids that encourage fat burning, especially in your belly.

HeidiToo - I can ride the ellipitical but have not been back to the gym for awhile. I have a glider at home that I can use, but I am having trouble getting motivated. I lost weight while on the A/C and gained on the Taxol and then my taste buds kicked in with the holidays and I am having trouble controlling my cravings. Need a swift kick in the but. Cold weather always makes me hungry for some reason. I love to walk when the weather is nice, but hate to walk in cold weather and I hate the treadmill. Just need to put on my big girl panties and do it.
Hope everyone has a great day. This is the first full week I have worked since my surgery in June. I go back to my oncologist on Tuesday and the first thing she will do is weigh me, I need to be really focused this weekend.

I've been horseback riding the past few days and doing more barnwork. Unfortunately, I am also still eating chocolate so-- still at 134. At least I'm not gaining.

139 this week. Down a pound. We'll see if it sticks! I have been successful in eating healthier, though - cooking with a lot more veggies, having bluberries and an orange every day.

Got my 'official' weight at the oncology office yesterday - back up to 175...darn it! So, oatmeal with blueberries for breakfast. Already made myself a large pitcher of ice water with an orance sliced up in it that I will work on getting through today, and planning a veg-based dinner (went to the farmer's market on Sunday and stocked up on kale, carrots, fennel, lettuces, and berries). Now if I can just stay away from the large tray of beautiful chocolate-cherry cupcakes my neighbor brought over last night.......The dog is begging to get out so maybe I'll motivate and we'll do a small walk. Had chemo yesterday so not feeling super, but walking won't make me feel worse so I should ust do it!

I lost 4 pounds, but my scale seems to differ from the doctors scale. I'll see what my weight is at the onc's office next week when I go for a follow up. We had three different King Cakes at the office on Friday, one right next to me all day long..........I didn't eat one piece, not one nibble, not one crumb. Whew...... I did break down over the weekend and eat something sweet, but other than that I've been doing much better, walking more and in general trying to stay more active.
Today in the paper the Family Circus comic showed the little boy looking at the calendar, month of February, he said something like "I sure am glad this month is short, that means summer will come sooner".

Hello gals,
I am home from a long trip to Florida. I weighed in yesterday and am 169. I did very well at exercising but not so good with portion control. And with all the snow we got yesterday and this morning I foolishly decided to bake some homemade chocolate chip cookies. And now I can';t keep my hands off of them. Tomorrow is another day. I will hopefully get back into a regular routine and things will improve.
