Major storm with tornado warnings just went through.  No tornadoes for us, but lots and lots of rain.  My doggies wouldn't go out it was raining so hard.  Supposed to rain some more - another couple of inches.  I think it is supposed to start cooling off again after this goes through.

Its 32 degrees here with a 'wintry mix' which translates to stay home.  As soon as it gets light I will be able to see the roadways.  Right now I can just see the back deck - white stuff on the ground.

Mary ... I understand completely.  Our dogs WILL go out when its snow but NOT interested in rain.

Winter has 6-7 more weeks until we head into the unpredictability of March.  Last year we had snow in March.

Good morning ladies.  We left sub zero temps on Monday morning and arrived to 82 degrees in Punta Cana.  It is such a relief from the cold and snow.  I'll blow some of this air up north and hope it warms up a bit.  Thanks for the bon voyage Rae.  I'll check in later this week.  Have a good week and stay warm (or cool if you're Rae, Meece or Mary)!

Thanks Suzwes and Meece, we are at a balmy 30 degrees today.  I may go out and tan, keep that warmth a-coming.  Karen

Last night, as we were watching the 11 o'clock news, all the local stations were calling for a rain event today that might start as snow after the morning rush in a few areas and end as snow overnight tonight.

Based on that forecast, all the schools opened, and the state, county and local crews didn't salt the roads or get plows out.

Not one drop of rain yet, but about 4 inches of snow so far.

DD had an 8am class today.  It took over an hour to get her there and a half hour into her first class, they closed the campus, so the bus route stops before the campus.  It is now 3 hours later, and she still isn't half the way home.

The weather guessers blew this one.

Edited to add that DD made it safely home, and is now warming up.

Got this from a friend today:

    It's winter in Wisconsin
    And the gentle breezes blow,
50 miles per hour at 32 below!
    Oh, how I love Wisconsin
When the snow's up to your butt!
You take a breath of winter air
And your nose is frozen shut!
    Yes, the weather's wonderful,
You may think I am a fool.
But I could never leave Wisconsin ,
Cause I'm frozen to the stool!

We're supposed to see the sun here in Southern Oregon today.

Most of the weekday I am in the house.  I picked a great day to have to go out!  It was just a dusting in the morning.  Sometime around noon it turned to snow/rain.  I went to the podiatrist nd it was just snowing/raining.  The sidewalks were clear.  When I came out less than an hour later the sidewalks had a light layer of snow and there was thunder!  As I drove home traffic was doing about 10-15 miles an hour!  But I am home safe and sound and am not going out again until the roads are dry.  I know its doesn't sound like much to you folks in the North but remember, here, it doesn't matter how much snow we get everyone acts like its a big surprise.

Eph3_12 ... really like your friend's winter poem.

PatMom ... I have always said it is the only profession were you are paid a 6 figure income and can be wrong all the time!

this winter you really can't trust what kind of weather you will be having throughout the day.  So glad you got home safely, I know I don't like that white knuckled driving.  I too only go out when the roads are mostly bare or at least sanded.  Stay safe and warm  Karen

Well, its about 30 degrees - supposed to get up to 37 degrees.  I cleaned a path on the deck for the dogs to go out but was not about to try to clean the steps - can't risk falling.  Before I cleared a path Darla went to the steps looked down and turned around.  While I was clearing a path on the deck I noticed she had peed on top of the snow on the deck!

One of the guys from my church came off to clear our driveway and walkways.  I am so grateful.

The weather is still gray and dreary, but for the past couple of weeks the fog has been bad.  School delays each week day.  Thankfully, no major accidents related to the fog.  I just like to stay at home rather than be on the road with those who don't respect the wather.

DS has been out of the state since 2002 is here for his fatehr's funeral, and he said it is probably the first time in his life he thought going 20 mph is too fast.

Meece ... that's exactly how I felt Wednesday ... went 15 miles doing 5-25 mph and thought that might be too fast!  Amen concerning people who do not respect weather.  Since this area if full of transplanted people, we have people who think 20 mph is too fast in rain or snow and those from the north that think 50-55 mph is just fine in either.  It is not a pretty picture when they meet!

When I drove home the weekend before Christmas it was pouring so hard I could not see the lines on the road so I went pretty slow and was still scared.  There were people including big rig drivers who passed me going way too fast.  People don't realize that their swerving in and out of lanes can also cause others to have to swerve.  They just want to get there fast.  I just want to get there.

    Hi everyoneSmile

Suzette - so glad to hear your plane got off the ground and that you are enjoying some much deserved and looked forward to WARM weather.

Hate to say it ladies but I am still basking in the mid 70s to 80.  Had a tropical cyclone (hurricane to you ladies) pass by us last night - we didn't get very bad winds but we got 5.5 inches of rain in about 12 hours with some REALLY heavy falls midnight to about 4pm (couldn't have driven anywhere when that was coming down - I couldn't even see the roof of the neighbours house which is only 40 ft from my bedroom window). Only surface flooding around our city but quite a lot of damage in the far North of the North Island - people evacuated overnight because of rising rivers etc.  Today has been fine and breezy - the heavy winds they predicted have not come, thank goodness.

We hd snow flurries yesterday but nothing stuck to the road - thank goodness.  It would have been ice this morning.  It is 26 degrees.  It looks like winter is really going to be rough over the next two weeks.  Yesterday it got all the way up to 36 - we thought we were having a heat wave!

It was cold mid 20's this morning but warmed up to the upper 50's this afternoon. tonight and tomorrow hold more of the same. But by mid week should be getting more rain/snow depending on the temps.

with each passing year I hate winter more, but it is pretty sometimes.  PatMom, I can relate to your post - we had the same thing and wound up with 15 inches!  Here's a shot I took before going to bed - had about 7 or 8 at this point, again, supposed to be rain!!

Just looked up the weather here - 15 degrees; however, it will be going up to about 35-37 degrees.  High temperature tomorrow is 31 degrees.  I don't care what that ground hog sees on February 2 - its going to be another 6 weeks of winter!

Temps in the 20's right now, supposed to plummet later. ANOTHER storm predicted for Wed/Thurs.  Enough already!  Isn't the ground hog supposed to do his thing pretty soon?  I wonder what it takes to bribe him. . . .

It is supposed to be in the mid 50s here, but we are supposed to get some much needed rain today.  It hasn't rained in almost a month and I think the ground can handle it.

It was 70 degress today and absolutely beautiful.  Going down to the 40's tonight.  I've gotta go to Jacksonville, FL most of this week and they are expecting rain.  Staying on the river downtown.  It should really be nice.
