CArolyn422.... you sound all tucked in for this COLD day. Enjoy the bright sunshine! Our house is full of big windows on the south so we get alot of solar heat on a day like this.
Just talked to my ONC and PET scan was all negative. CT showed a tiny, tiny nodule on prophylactic side which he said is nothing that he is concerned about and is likely scar tissue if anything. I guess I can redo the CT in another 6-8 weeks and see if it shows up again. So...... YIPPEE! It has been a real nerve racking past few days waiting for this good news but I am glad that I got the scans as now I feel that the past several months going thru surgery, chemo and rads has whipped this thing into remission for sure. It was worth it for my peace of mind.
But now, back to my back issues which I have had for many, many years. Does anyone have a good nuerologist or orthopedic surgeon they can recommend, preferrably at NW. I have tried chiropractors and not found much help there. I love our family orthopedic surgeon here but he does not do backs. The first thing the doctors want is an MRI and I can't have one of those until I get rid of my TE's on March 30th for my scheduled exchange surgery. Sort of feel caught in limbo until all that happens.
Well, stay warm everyone. Everything is about the BEARS this weekend. If any of you are Lily Tomlin fans, I just bought tickets to see her at the Raue Center in Crystal Lake on Feb 12th. I need soem comedy in my life!

Joan about 8 years ago my back was so bad I couldn't even sit. 1st sent to a chiropractors… I think he made it worse. Then went for PE and within one visit I started to bet better. Granted I did also have to do exercises to strengthen my core but I never had to do PE for my back since.
-
Joan, So glad to hear that your got a good scan report. I hate scanxiety. Also good luck with your back. I hope someone will chime in soon with a rec. for a good Doc.
Warm wishes to all of you.

Congratulations, Joan! Wendy and i have off and on lower back issues. Wendy had surgery for it. Mine is not that bad off. I "pull" my back out two/three times a year but can fix it with conservative measures (rest, alleve, icing). My ortho is with Evanston and he says it is not bad enough to do surgery (disk issues). I could get you his name, but it sounds like you want to stay with Northwestern. I did do physical therapy and I guess it helped. My situation is if it goes out, it goes out.......so it is not chronic I ALWAYS have those thermo wraps in the house and wear them if I feel any warning that I am about to have problems. I am hoping Wendy gets on here soon as she can give you better insight on how to treat a bad back. Keep stretching!
Carolyn.....one Bear fan among a group of Packers......scary scenario!
Jackie, I would hardly call that a rough vent;.you are mildly complaining about someone who takes advantage of others. That is unfair of that person to do that!
Have some fun everyone!
-
Joan, been looking for your post.. Great news!! I too have a lymph node.. and my doctor kept saying scar tissue.. but now the CT said it's fatty tissue.. :0 so I'm thinking it's nothing for you to be nervous about!!
I'm going out in this weather as well.. my PC is flashing -2 in our area.. UGH..Laura.. waiting for an update on your sister...
Hello and some warm hugs to everyone else!!
-
Just dropping back in to say I read on FB that Mandy is in the hospital dealing with a a lung that collapsed. I am sure she will be okay that I post it here......prayers, hugs and good vibes going to Mandy.
-
Yes, I am not worried about it at all. ONC isn't, so why should I? He said the radiologists just read everything so close (sort of CYA, of course) and it is just a 7mm spot that he figures is scar tissue from MX or TE stuff.
Have been following Mandy on FB as well. She has been through so much already. Speedy recovery, Mandy. (((hugs))))
-
Hi girls.
My heart goes out to Mandy...I feel so bad she is going through this. She is just too damn young for this cra*.
Update: My sis is out of ICU and in a regular room. She has congestive heart failure (55% - which supposedly isn't that bad?), she has pneumonia (fluid filled lungs) as well. She seems to be in good spirits despite it all. Your thoughts and prayers are working. Thanks so much. I'll be visiting her this afternoon.
It's bitter cold out - minus 1 here in the frosty forest. No skiing today, that's for sure!
Keep warm and safe girls.
Marybe - Glad you are joining us here. Will try to meet with all of you in February. I love getting together with these girls, and so will you!
-
So sorry to hear about Mandy. Hope they get this resolved soon!
Glad to hear your sister is out of the ICU Laura. Now that she knows about teh CHF that can be controlled with a few drugs. Hope she gets over the pneumonia soon.
So how many here are on facebook too? Was that a silly question

Time to join the "Social Network", Lago.

Ah shucks, Carolyn. Packer fans aren't that bad! (GO PACK!!)

Hi All. Just got a couple of calls today. First from my chemo nurse calling to tell me that the ONC wants a port put in and tha the dr putting int the port would be calling me to set up a time for the examination. Then of course the dr called. Luckily all my appointments are on the same day 1/25. He'll then put the port in 2 days later and I'll have my first chemo that same day. Well, that's all I know at this point. Just thought I'd share my news. Shared it with my parents and they're all freeked out. Oh well. Tonight is the Daddy daughter dance for my neices. It'll be great to see them all dressed up.
Have a great night and stay warm.
Joan - glan to hear the goan news about your PET scan.
Laura - thanks for the update on your sister,
Love to all!

YEA JOAN! We love good news!!!! After all the waiting, take a big, deep breath and go on with your life! Super news!
Laura, so glad that your sis is doing better. Keep us informed!
Hey Jackie, you have every right to be irritated about somebody who doesn't pull their weight and takes advantage of others. I would feel exactly the same way!
Susan, do you buy the thermo wraps over the counter at a drug store? Are they like a patch that you put on?
Well, our golf group is braving the freezing temps and gathering tonight for soup and sandwiches so I'd better get moving. I have a crockpot full of meatballs that I'm taking for appetizers.
Stay warm and travel safely!

Joan - so happy for the good results - celebrate!
-
Mandy....so sorry to hear you have a collapsed lung and hoping it all get s resolved very soon. I'm sure that must be very un-comfortable.
Joan.....I say whatever it takes for reassurance. In a fight like this one it is never too soon to find out you are winning.
Laura...sure glad to hear your sis is better. Gosh, 55 % sounds like a lot to me but I'm sure she is, in comparison, feeling a lot better than the day she got checked in there. Here's hoping she is soon yelling to go home.
Once again.....I'm done in so think I'll go find my recliner and veg bit time. See you all in the morning.
Hugs, Jackie
-
Congrats Joan! Don't worry, be happy!
Carolyn - Ports suck, but it really will make a difference, by keeping your veins in good working order. Hang in there!

Paulie (Che' Paulie) came home from the groomer with a GO BEARS scarf around his neck! lol

Happy Sunday morning. We are getting a light one or two inches today of snow. I must say again....love the snow but the bitter cold can leave and the sooner the better. Due to be 40 by the end of the week. We have enough snow out that it won't take it all I don't think.
Dogs got up such a ruckus in the house with our first cup of coffee.....deer were traveling up the ravine by our kitchen door that is mainly all glass.
Hope you are all going to have a fantastic day. I'll be checking in later. Stay warm.
Hugs, Jackie

We have light snow here in Chicago too. Bit warmer today. I'm slowly crossing off my SEs! Nice to know this is the last time. I want to stop taking some of the support drugs. Not that I'm taking that many. Most of what I'm taking is supplements. It's just the Zyretc, Carafate (heartburn) and Nexium that needs to stop. I was told I need to wean off the Nexium.
So, everyone ready for the Big Game! Looks like the perfect day to sit inside, eat comfort food and watch the game. I'm making beef stew today. Not sure if I will be able to taste it though. Taste buds start going south today. At least the DH will enjoy.
-
Good morning to everyone - it looks like a sunny day here in downtown Chicago.
Lago - What is the Nexium for? I was so happy when I had the last chemo treatment - so I understand how you feel. I did have some new SEs after the last one - especially watery eyes. Beef stew sounds so good - one of my favorite winter meals.
-
lago -- Congrats on finishing, I'm sure you are thrilled to be done! Looking forward to early April, when I'll be done with chemo, just can't get here fast enough.
Would love to stay in and just watch the game, but my children have not one but three events to be shuttled around to today -- birthday party, cast party, and roller skating. Then all the last minute preparations to celebrate my oldest daughter's birthday tomorrow, she'll be 14! We spent last night at Navy Pier.... not very crowded in January, that was nice, she loves shopping for trinkets at the kiosks there, so that was her family birthday outing. Glad that the SEs are manageable for me, so these trips are possible.

Char its also for heartburn. I was first on Prilosuc but that never works. Then I was on generic Protonix. My insurance changed this month and BC&BC of IL refuses to cover generic Protonix but will cover Nexium. Ironically my old insurance was BC&BC of MA. Also crazy is the generic Protonix is much less expensive then Nexuim.
I have/had a lot of heartburn issue with chemo. What's annoying is as soon as the heartburn issues stop then my tastebuds go wacky. I really did wish all these SE would happen all at once during the same week. Never works that way. Anyway it's almost over.
BTW The snow has stopped and it's actually sunny now! ☼

Good morning all.....woke up to find Jack Lalanne had passed away. Once again proof to me that we have a set leave-taking. He ate healthy and obviously exercised probably more than any other person. I know it served him well to do these things. Were I though to have had to guess....he for sure would have been one I would have guessed would have at least passed the 100 yr. mark. He was 96. He was a true leader -- opening the first gym in L.A.
So again, while it will not hurt anyone and I certainly would follow good health rules in diet and exercise to a degree ( my preference being walking which I don't as yet do in an established way ) I think if we do things in moderation we are, as my dad use to say " going to live until we die" .
I myself seldom actually think about my demise. I have far too many things going in a sometimes hectic life and it would in fact ( other than some advance planning which I've already done ) as I see it be a pretty big waste of time. So do what you feel is right, treat yourself now and then to something that is "sinful" and live. There is a season and a time and it is set already when we come into life -- you only have to make the most of your own personal life in whatever way feels right. We do get lemons -- that is part of how we learn, but we are meant to find pleasures and joys in this life too......so enjoy each day for what it gives you and grow with it at all times. Farewell to a big part of my childhood ( he was probably 30 or 35, but I thought of him as old then ) and don't make those angels you will be with do too many push-ups Jack.
Hope you all have a fantastic day.
Hugs, Jackie
