Hi,

I'm trying to find an explanation or reason to explain the fact that I can't loose any weight since I started the TAMOXI.

I managed to shed a few pounds and the only thing I changed was the time that I took the pill.

This thread is a quick poll. The questions are:

When do you take the pill. Morning or Night?

Are you loosing/gaining/keeping your weight.

Any other advice, theories or help are welcomeWink

I'll start:

1. Morning

2. keeping same weight.

Great thread!  I'll be starting soon and hope to be able to add to the "lost weight" category. (runs to knock on wood ~ which may include my head considering my irrational optimism!! ;)

Way to go Alicia!!  Keep it up!! .. or should I say "down"! :)

    Hey All,

I have been on T for exactly a year.

No hot flashes or SE apart from the stuck weight. Not complaining terribly, just a little frustrated.

A dietitian that I used to see believes the weight loss happens at night, so I started to theorize that maybe those taking the T at night were loosing weight.

Let's see if we can make a mini statistics threadWink

    WOW Alicia. way to go!!!

I have been on Tamoxifen since July  of 2009...just after chemo and surgery and before radiation. Did not gain on chemo. Took 20mg every night. Lost during rads then went back up to my pre cancer weight. Stable for awhile but not eating much and hungry all the time...started to gain no matter what even on WW. Now I split it and take 1/2 tab in the mid a.m. and 1/2 before bed. The Onc. does not think it does anything but I feel better all the way around doing it. I also started strength training twice a week and I have dropped 8 pounds. in 10 weeks...eating more, but trying to eat healthy most of the time.

Been on it 7 months. Lost 7 pounds initially, due to major diet change. No change in weight since then. Take it at night.

Have been on tamox since 9/2009.  My weight started fluctuating by 5 to 7 pounds, which is a lot for me. Then over the course of a weekend, I gained 10 lbs. It was water.  Took a couple of diuretics and cut my salt intake substantially (and I love salt) and weight has been holding steady since. If I have a particularly salty meal, I will be a couple of pounds heavier the next day. Put on a couple of pounds over the holiday (fat, not water) and I was able to take it off the same as I did before tamox - calorie restriction and extra cardio. Other than the water retention, I don't think the tamox has impacted my weight at all. Also, take it at night.

I've been taking it for 14 months now.  I've tried morning, splitting 1/2 in the morning 1/2 at night, evening, bedtime trying to ease the SE's.  I've now settled on bedtime.

20mg at bedtime, losing weight very slowly due to more exercise & cutting back on diet.  Have lost 18 pounds so far & wanting to get down another 10.

    1. Morning

    2. No weight change.

Hot flases are tolerable except when I get a hot flash I itch terribly. Anyone else? I've only been on it 6 weeks and will start rads next month. I heard you're not supposed to try to lose weight on rads. Any comments.

    1) Have been taking 10mg morning and 10mg before sleep since Feb 2009.

    2) Slow weight gain to pre cancer weight. Have been exercising regularly but can't seem to shed off. Weight now level off.

Grandma, I too get almost like prickly heat when I have a hot flash, luckily I have very few since starting on gabapentin.  I wasn't told anything about weight while on rads, but I was walking everyday & eating quite healthy.

It seems we all are so different in the effects of Tamoxifen and when we take it.

I tried mid day and now mornings.  I don't like mornings at all (gee did I mention that before)??? :)

I'm going to try taking it before bed for awhile and see if that helps my stomach issues and fatigue.

    Hi All,

    No real conclusions for now.

Yes we are very different but it seems to me more are loosing weight while taking it at night/evening or splitting.

Of course diet and exercise make a difference, but I'm doing it with no change in weight.

Going to try switching to evening. How do you think I should do it? Is there an overdose of T?

I took mine this morning so I'll start taking tomorrow night. Don't double dose on this med.

I'm waiting until the next day.
