Hi,
Can I join?
What do I have to do if yes?
-
Welcome, MaiTai. You have to be here!
I will assign you to a team, then each Friday you will report here and let us know how well you did on the catagories listed in the header. Weight loss, exercise, etc. We will encourage you, and you will get some great ideas how to live a bit healthier. If you wish, please let me know what your starting weight is, then I will find you a team. If you have some little hints to share with the group, we'd love to hear them.

Hi ladies, walked the capitol at noon and the track after work. Had a nice lunch and a light supper. I gained 30 lb after quitting smoking two years ago and BC/surgery/chemo last year. This is my year to get back in shape! I have lost 12.5 lb since I started trying (10 on my own and 2.5 since I joined E-LAB). Finding it very slow to lose weight on tamox.
I bought a new digital scale with 10th of a lb so even if it's a little, I can still see a weekly drop. Thanks for the help and support! See ya tomorrow... {{hugs}} to all

Way to go Badger!
Yes, every little tenth counts!

Hi girls!
Faith..you can be my cheerleader anyday!!!
Well...good and bad news. Good...I know my weight...162....well, actually that is bad news! 1lb up from before Christmas...plus it's about 25 lbs more than I should/want to weigh!
Bad news...I have SHINGLES!! omg...I went in to see the doctor after a horrible day of chills, complete body pain, and some odd looking red marks on my "bad" arm. This is the arm I had 22 lymph nodes removed from! Anyhow...I went in with a whole list of things that were going on with me...the main answer I got was the shingles. Hopefully it won't be too bad, as of now, not much pain with them. The thing that worries me is I feel that my arm has gotten bigger and is very tight...so possibly lymphedema has started.......: (
After reading some of your posts...I am wondering if I need to see a Gastro dr.?? I have plumbing issues...and everytime I eat or drink, even if it's large or just a handful of nuts..or a glass of water...I feel full..to the point of my entire lower trunk area feeling bloated?? It's weird.
So...Meece...add my weight to the list...and now with my "cheerleader" and this team of wonderful women, I can accomplish some sort of weight loss. I know being on tamoxifin, makes it tough...but I am trying!
I just need to get more exercise in. I started out so good...but all of the snowstorms here...has kept me off the pavement! I need to start some indoor exercise...no excuses there!
Well ladies...back to work..
I will not give you a weight tomorrow, but I will next Friday. I will be in sunny Arizona with my boyfriend, visiting my awesome sister and her family! I know I can exercise there!
xoxo
Lisa

badger,
I am so with you!!! I celebrated 1 year smoke-free yesterday but definitely am NOT celebrating the 20 pounds that I have packed on due to quitting smoking, starting Tamoxifen, etc!
I join you in that, this is THE YEAR that those pounds will melt away! You sound like you have a really good start and I hope I can follow suit!!
And, yes, a scale that can measure 1/10 lb lost is a good thing... lol!
-
my3girls,
Oh my! Shingles can be really quite painful. My Dad had a bout with it a few years back and it was definitely not fun!
Hope you have a light case of it and that you are on the mend soon!!
-
Mimi1964,
Hoping that all went well with your husband's surgery today and that he is well on his way to healing!!
Thinking of you tonight!
-
ROADRUNNERS...ARE you ready for tomorrow??
I have 2 extra points so far.
13 hours and counting................
-
my3Girls........... I'm very concerned about your arm. red dots can also indicate cellulitis...... i know i shouldn't pretend to be a doctor -- but that's where my whole downward spiral began last spring, after my BMX.
be very, very wary............ cellulitis is a mess to contend with -- shingles is no picnic either, which i had after i finished my rads.
anyhow, just something to keep in your mind..... and ask about REPEATEDLY if necessary.
it really struck me, when you talked about your arm.......................
maybe send a personal message to Kira, here at BCO -- she is the doctor in real life and the LE authority on the LE threads, you could also send the same message to Binney4 -- between the two of them they could have genuine insight.
GOOOOOOOOOO HUMMINGBIRDS!!!!

Nativemainer, I think you're onto something with the E-lab moving into all parts of our lives. I've gotten busy and set out the vitamins I take for the whole week. The meals are on my mind and I'm planning on eating healthy instead of just coming home and "guessing" what I'll eat. Also cleaning out the kitchen cabinets of foods I don't want to eat any longer. Moving into the clothes closets this weekend....
Doing OK with the water intake, but still wanting the snacks so having to be creative with them. I now make a "granola" of almonds, cranberries, pecans and a few chocolate covered almonds. It's really not a true granola because it doesn't have the grains but, I can think it is. I'm also chewing more gum. It helps me pass the urge to eat a snack when I'm really not hungry.
-
my3girls - I second faithandfifty's comment - please check out the lymphedema thread and see if you can get refered to a lymphedema therapist. Many doctors are unaware of LE symptoms and severity.
Samsue - I use gum in two places - in bed at night when I really want a snack and know I need to not eat, and at my desk when I have a craving but don't have a snack with me. Keeps me from begging chocolate from my co-workers. It does help.

Meece - the point system has disappeared from the top - what happened to it???
-
Hi Meece and all,
My current weight is 140. I want to go back to my weight pre-BC and a little more.
I'm trying really hard to loose around 14.
I exercise 2-3 times aweek. I know it is not enough. I eat a relatively low carbs diet that did the trick before. But I'm quite stuck here.
Probably the tamoxi.
Thanks and Good luck

OK, I am offically frustrated. This is my first full week of good exercise and eating better (not perfect, but improved) and I GAINED A POUND! Yeeesh! I know this healthy lifestyle thing is a long term project but I get frustrated without immediate positive results. What's really painfull is that the scale at the gym yesterday afternoon, when I should have weighed more than the morning, almost naked, before eating anything weight, I got a weight 5 pounds lighter! I am soooo tempted to use that weight today!
On to the official check in:
Friday check in = 1 point
Weight 218 lbs, up 1 pound = 0 points
32 ounces of water x 5 days = 5 points
60 minutes of exercise = 2 points
met personal goal of at least 2 servings of fruits/veggies 3 days in the week = 1 extra credit point
Total = 9 points
-
Chin up NM, you are eating better and getting to the gym! Maybe you need a new scale? :-)
-
Hmmm. Or maybe new batteries in the scale. Good thought!
-
NativeMainer: it could be "muscle" weight? Since you're working out, maybe you're building up muscle, which is a good thing.
-
oakely--I LIKE that interpretation! Thanks!
-
Checking in am down 2lbs.Exercised for an hour 3 days this week.Just managed to squeek by with the water that is the tioughest part for me.
-
Checking in
Wt- 160 (at least not gaining)
Weight loss this week* -1 pt for maintaining
Exercise - 1 hours = 2 points
Friday check-in = 1 point
Daily water = 7 pointsr
Extra credit: Dr. appt this week for follow up visit on reconstruction/stitches abscess - 1pt. (can I count this)?
Only 1 1/2 more weeks till I can start doing my regular activities and start trully dieting and exercising. How nice it will be to not sit on the bottom anymore!
Go Robins!!!
By the way DH is doing well and at home. He is a little more "ill for wear" haha... yesterday was not one of his best! He can be a big baby sometimes. But I still love him.
Have a great day and I hope I can keep up this thread moves so fast.

Sorry that the points disappeared. I think I saved that info on my other drive. I will get it back up.
MaiTai, you are a Hummingbird. I think I have the three birdie teams evenly womaned now.
-
Mimi - glad DH is on the mend. From what I hear, whining is normal for males under the weather.
Couldn't match last weeks points; couldn't even hold on to the weight loss from Wednesday's weigh in thread - Aarrrggghhhhh!!!
Weight: 183.2 - only down .2 (notice the point) but at least it's down = 2 pts.
Exercise: needs to be much better - only 4 pts this week
Water: needs to be much better - only 4 pts this week
Friday check-in: YAY, that's like a 'free' point = 1
So only an 11 point week for me. Goal from now on is at least 15 points/week for me.
Meece, please show my weight loss goal as 20 lbs. Thanks.
-
I think this is the week of the frustrated Roadrunners. I am feeling deprived because I have been sticking to healthy food choices, but I am still back to my starting weight.
Checking in on Friday - 1 point
weight - no points
exercise - 6 1/2 hours for - 13 points
water - 7 points
My blood glucose levels are down, which is good, but it is frustrating to need to snack before I exercise even when I'm not hungry.
I made a choice to let my husband handle getting my niece registered for her college classes so I could go to yoga class. It was hard to give up control of that situation, but I made the choice that is healthier for me. - 1 point.
Total - 22 points
-
mimi, glad your hubby is doing better. He's lucky to have you!
Friday Check-in 1 pt
Water 1.5 L (this is my easy one) 7 points
Exercise 2 hrs 4 points
Weight 2 points I lost my 1.4 lbs I gained last week plus 0.4 more (186.6)
Extra Credit 1 point
Extra Credit: I actually plugged in my treadmill and turned it on. Then I relearned how to program it ( after at least a two year dormant period) and finally, actually walked on it! Not for long, as my tummy incision tightens up....but some nonetheless. When the weather is nice I don't mind walking outside along Lake Michigan, but it is sub-zero this week.
Week total 15 points
Have a Great Weekend Birdies
