I agree completely with Titan.  I've not been very good this week at all but I've been at a conference at the Four Season's and the food is absolutely divine and the agenda is so full there's not been any free time to exercise. Once I get this week over with, I can regroup and focus again.

If I can whip myself into shape by April that is good enough for me.  I think it may take me until June, though, lol!

Hi everybody.  I found a place to attend aerobics class while in FL.  I went this am for a one hour class.

Heidi: my wt today is still at 168.(with sneakers on)  Also sorry to hear about your knee problems.  Stinks that you need surgery.

I agree that we should keep going and see what spring brings.

Hi Guys- I have no problem extending this. In fact, with my friends telling me "you don't need to lose weight" and my knee situation (I am going to seek a second opinion) I probably won't be too motivated myself for awhile. Spring always brings an almost automatic weight loss for me anyway--- why beat myself to death when it's so much easier...well, not to?!

It may take awhile to get the second opinion. The guy I want to see is relocating and won't be taking new patients until end of Feb. So, I intend to continue watching my food intake, not binging on anything and hope that, with *gentle* persistence, the weight will slide off gradually.

In the meantime, we are all here to support each other and cheer those who are making progress.

Fighter:  Wow, congrats to you!  I lost 30 on a 28 day Perricone diet but I wanted to try something new this time (I do get bored, lol).

I just received my "the French Women Don't Get Fat Cookbook" and here is her secret weapon recipe for losing weight easily.  MAGICAL BREAFAST CREAM RECIPE:

4-6 TBLSP PLAIN YOGURT (ABOUT 1/2 CUP)

    1 TSP FLAXSEED OIL

    1-2 TBLSP LEMON JUICE

    1 TSP HONEY

2 TBLSP FINELY GROUND CEREAL (WITH ZERO SUGAR LIKE POST SHREDDED WHEAT OR OATMEAL)

    2 TSP FINELY GROUND WALNUT

Put yogurt in a bowl and add oil. Mix well. Add lemon juice and mix well.  Add the honey and mix well.  Use a small food processor or grinder for the cereal and nuts and add to the yogurt mixture, mixing well.  Serve at once.  ( you can grind a weeks worth of cereal and nuts and refrigerate it in advance).

You can substitute yogurt with ricotta or cottage cheese.  You can replace Flaxseed with sesame or safflower oil.  You can replace lemon juice with grapefruit, orange or blood orange juice (reduce honey for oranges). You can replace honey with maple syrup.  You can use any cereal that contains no sugar.  You can replace walnuts with hazelnuts, almonds or blend together. You can also usee pecans, pine nuts or any other nuts you have on hand or like.  Finally, you can adjust the amount of juice and honey.  You can also add fresh fruit on top or raisons, figs, dates or even dried cranberries or apricots.

The plan:  You do this every morning for a week and eliminate two items from your diet that week.  For me that would be a breads and sugar.  For you, whatever your particular weakness is--maybe ice cream and cakes.  You should eat healthily for that week but do eat regularly.  This is supposed to help you lose a few pounds easily.  She also recommends 8 ounces of water 30 minutes before a meal and 90 minutes after.  Also a glass of water before going to bed and one upon rising.

I am trying this starting this morning with no breads and sugar so I will let you know if it works!

Hi All - weighed today at the onc's.....176...not so happy about that, but it was fully clothed with a sweater.  I think I need to pick one scale and a plan to wear something similar each time so I can at least see a trend, even if the exact amount is not accurate.  But, I did resist the red velvet cupcakes that were here when I got home from chemo today and am planning a healthy-ish dinner.  Had the PARP today and am now starting my 10 day break.  Continuing to see shrinkage each visit which is nice - 4 more rounds to go, then the 'real' chemo.

Thanks for the recipe MBJ - added to my shopping list and will try it tomorrow.

Oh, lord!  The weight scale police!  Lol!  I police myself enough without any help, thank you all.  I have decided to start my diet Monday, because starting right before a busy weekend of going out with friends and having french food is not conducive to losing weight.  I will lose the holiday 5 pounds!

Okay ladies, my problem area is between my tummy and my knees not including back fat.  Here is something I copied if anyone else has a "budda belly" they are trying to get rid of like me:

ugh I don't think my weight has budged from 140.

I've been trying to accomplish 2 goals here - lose weight and eat more healthy, in particular, eat cancer-fighting foods. So I'm shooting for at least 5 or more fruits and veggies a day and attempting to lower fat intake. But the belly is not budging :(

Anyone know about nuts? Walnuts and almonds are supposed to contain omega-3s and lots of other anti-cancer compounds. I love to snack on them, but I know they're loaded with fat. Any thoughts?

Almonds are good fat, and filling. I just eat the number on the container that gives the calorie content.

Nuts are really great for you, but if you are trying to lose belly weight, they say avoid carbs:  potatoes, rice, bread.

I'm going to keep using Monday as my weigh in day. No change. My excuses? DH is away on business and all good eating  habits disappeared too. I WILL do better this week.

I just saw this post and thought I would let you guys know what happened to me.  I have been exercising 5 times a week and eating reasonably faithfully for the last two years.  I never lost any weight and to be perfectly honest I was very slowly gaining.  Until I started cycling twice a week with my husband.  I traded a half hour of running for about an hour and a half of cycling, that's about 15 miles for us,  I dropped 10 pounds in less than a month without even trying.  It just fell off.  Its been about 5 months and its still off.  Just thought I would share!!  Good Luck, Shannon

I didn't weigh myself this morning. I know I'm still at 134. I weigh myself most mornings, and have gotten pretty  good at guessing. I worked for over 2 hours outside today in 16 degrees, picking up manure in my paddocks and moving carriages around, re-covering them, etc. in my "carriage barn"--- which is actually a loafing shed for horses that we gated off after I cut down on my herd (from 10 to 4). It's not terribly strenuous work but it burns more calories than sitting by the fire reading. BTW- hubby just bought me a Nook color. I love it!

Hi girls, 152lbs today. I guess I am losing one pound a week. Not very exciting but better than nothing.

Slanderson thanks for sharing. Maybe I should start cycling. My friend started last year and she dropped 20lbs and kept it off.

Cycling is great and I wish I didn't live in the city where it's just plain dangerous to ride because I love it.  Hate the thought of joining a gym because I know I won't go.  I'll figure it out.  DH bought bread so I decided to eat it all tonight so that I won't have to eat it for the rest of the week.  I know, I know. I didn't even bother getting on the scale today.  Tomorrow is another day.

I hope it is not too late for me to join.  I weighed 139 last week and tomorrow I will see the doctor and weigh again.  130 is what I should be at and then I could fit into my clothes.  I havn't exercised much since before I started radiation.  I am in my last week of rads so maybe I will have more energy?  I am hoping.

Monika:  One pound a week sounds good.

Minxie:  I think nuts are very good for you.  Just limit them to say, a handful, since they are high in fat.  My favorite are raw cashews that I get at Trader Joes.
