    I have to say the pie I bought on sale at the bakery yesterday was worth every calorie!  We had it for dessert tonight.  I did do a short walk on the treadmill tonight and ate sensibly other than the pie.

    checking in for the monday morning weigh in   168 today.  I am satisfied since I had chocolate cake and ice cream on Saturday for my birthday  (51!)  Been on the treadmil 30 minutes today and yesterday.

    Thanks to everyone who posted to me regarding muscle gain.  It isn't.  My abdomen is as big around as my butt. Literally.  I started "rearranging" my fat after my oorph... <sigh>

    It was really cold out this morning so I did a 30-min exercise DVD.  I'm going to the hosp to visit a friend on my lunch hour so I don't think I'll be able to fit in an additional short workout today.

    Happy Birthday, Navy Mom!  I forgot to weigh in this morning and now I have eaten and there is no way I will get on there until tomorrow morning before food, lol.

    today I was really, really good.  I pulled out my Optima Juicer and had carrots, celerey, beets and apple juice this morning and then made my favorite oatmeal recipe from the Rebecca Katz cookbook The Cancer Fighting Kitchen.  Great book!  This makes 2 servings:

    BEST OATMEAL

    The night before (I forgot to do this) soak 1 cup of rinsed oatmeal in water with lemon juice and rinse and drain in the morning before preparation.

    2 cups of water bring to boil then add

    1 cup Oatmeal, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp cinammon, 1/2 tsp ginger & 1/4 tsp ground cardamon and bring again to a boil while stirring then lower temperature and add 1/4 cup raisons. Cook over low heat for 10 minutes.  Add 1 tblsp coconut oil & 1 tblsp maple syrup plus milk or soy milk to taste. top with 1 tblsp Blueberry Compote (see below) and 1 tblsp slivered, toasted almonds. Enjoy!! 

    BLUEBERRY COMPOTE

    1 bag frozen organic blueberries

    1/2 tsp lemon zest and tblsp lemon juice

    1 tbslp of maple syrup

    1/2 tsp ginger fresh or ground

    Cook until it thickens.

    I finally broke 165! Only by a pound- but I've been stuck there for ages.

    164 for me.

    I cut out all sweets and carbs - except for that resees peanut butter cup - damn I need to stay out of the teachers room!

    Hi Ladies sorry I am checking in so late. I had a very busy day..... I weigh myself today and I am 2lbs lighter. I know its not impressive but it is a start. So i am 154lbs. My knees are bothering me since I started running. Any ideas how can i make it better? Have a great evening everyone.

    I was too rushed to weigh myself this morning as I had an early meeting at work.  I did, however, remember to put on my pedometer.  After my walk tonight, it's at 10,525 for the day.

    Well, I did horrible on my food today as my DH took me out to lunch but I did get alot of walking in.  I have to remember to borrow my DH;s pedometer!

    I haven't weighed myself in a while and was super happy when the rad onco didn't weigh me today!  Oh shoot...  I forgot I'm seeing my onco this week and will get weighed! I better get back on my plan.  I was bad tonight and ate a bunch of candy.  I'm throwing it away.  My DH and I don't need it.  I am eating more fruits and veggies though. 

    Tomorrow is my last day of radiation!!  Next Monday I get my port out (I'll probably get weighed then, too)!  Oh well.  Woo-Hoo!

    I want a pedometer.  Which one is the best value?  I need my DH to show me how to use our Wii.  I got Zumba and Just Dance 2.  I need to use it!

    Kitty - my DH bought my pedometer at Wal-Mart.  The name on it says Sportline but it was from Wal-Mart in Canada so sometimes our stores here carry different merchandise. It's a pretty good one and I think it was around $20 or $30.

    Hi All - got the official weight yesterday at my oncology visit - 173...I started at 179 on their scale so have lost a bit since diagnosis....did well yesterday as it was a chemo day - oatmeal for breakfast, small soup and half a turkey sandwich, 4 oreos the nurse brought me (could have done without those..), and for dinner only a slice of homemade bread sprinkled with lots of salt...the nausea had started by then and I couldn't face dinner.  Feeling pretty good this morning so am planning to take a walk with a friend - I have been horrible about exercising.....I have a wii and all sorts of exercise discs but haven't gotten motivated yet.  That will be my goal for this week - more days of exercise.

     MBJ - I've been having oatmeal almost everymorning for breakfast - can't wait to try that recipe - thanks!

    kittycat - congrats on finishing rads!  I am so far behind in this process - 15 more weeks of the trial to go, then adjuvant chemo, then rads,then surgery --- I sort of plotted it all out on a calendar and won't be done til the end of the year - trying to take it one day at a time and not get discouraged

    -Kittycat  - congrats on being finished.  My daughter got justdance 2 for Christmas I think I spend more time playing it that she does it is sooooo much fun and a really good workout.  Congrats on getting your port out, my oncologist will not let me have mine out yet.

    Looks like I lost 2 lbs since my last weigh in with the dr a few weeks ago.  Still eating lots of salads......today was a salad with some leftover grilled chicken - yum!!!  Walking has been hard, but I did do a lot of moving around the building at work today and climbed the stairs I don't know how many times.  I'm also drinking a lot more water.......I've been cutting up yummy Meyer lemons from my Mom's lemon tree putting them in the pitcher with water.  It looks pretty and tastes good.  I think I drink almost a pitcher a night.

    Kitty- congrats on being finished with treatment!!! Doing the happy dance!

    Sugar/Titan - I'm sorry the Saints lost too, but it happens, besides as a Saints fan we're used to saying "Next year will be the year" Laughing  I'd really like it to be 2013 when we have the Superbowl.

    Well, I can't say what's going on with my weight.  I'm actuallly 2 pounds heavier than last week but I had food poisoning for a day at the tail end of my recent vacation. I left the day after Christmas and didn't watch what I ate for most of the week so I might have gained weight but then lost some fluid with the food poisoning.  I think I'm going to have to give it another week to determine where I'm starting with this weight thing.  I feel good and put 12,066  steps on my pedometer today.

    Jenn...be glad you aren't a Browns Fan...we always say next year too..we have been saying that for years and years! But we fans keep coming back for more...we are probably stupid but we love our Browns..

    I forgot to weigh in on Monday...oops!  I don't think I lost any but I do think that I didn't gain any over the holidays..was so busy..both kids home, plus planning a wedding with my daughter..this is so much fun...I'm planning on getting my mom's dress in June..and it's not going to be some boring mom's dress either..! 

    Yay Kitty on being DONE with treatments...and I mean DONE..no more...you have been through enough...

    I was surfing the internet today..happened upon an editorial about chemo...this guy (ex pro football player..now a writer) was really against chemo..said it only helped 2% of cancers.  It was a little freaky reading this..it makes you wonder sometimes when you read things like that..talked about how cancer centers profit is 75% from treating patients with chemo..and then how it poisoned the patients then "they" give it to you again..I admit I'm a little gullible when it comes to this kind of thing...I still know there is NO way I would not have done chemo but sometimes..you just wonder.

    He did talk about vitamins and how the big pharmacutical companies would not back them due to the fact that there is no $$ there for them..and about how our government is paid $$ to back the pharmacutical companies...what do you believe?   I know we could discuss this endlessly..but if all this crap is true...then where does this put us?  He called people like us "sheeples"... I agree with him..in a way..because once you are told you have cancer you do go with what your oncs are telling you..you have the treatments...the surgery..everything...I really, really hate to think that my onc is looking at me (and my excellent insurance company)..with dollar signs...

    Titan:  I was taking tons of supplements, juicing, everything under the sun and the only thing that worked, and I mean the only thing that worked, was chemo.

    Titan: I agree with Heidi, don't DOUBT, he's probably shilling for a vitamin company. Chemo is accepted practice throughout the world, including in countries with not-for-profit and publicly run cancer centers. The efficacy of various drug regimens have been proven in clinical trials.

    It is true there is a growing trend towards more private (read pharma) funding of medical research in the U.S. and Canada - i.e. governments are doing less - and this can and does influence what is researched and how.

    Titan:  I just wanted to add that TN's are in the so called 2% that respond very well to chemo!  There are many cancers that don't.  I have a friend who just had a lumpectomy last year who is a TN however she had a Philadies type tumor (1% of people get this) and if it comes back in the lungs or somewhere else in the bones or organs, that's it--no chemo, no treatment, no nothing.  I consider us very lucky indeed.

    Claire:  Well, I do feel lucky that I don't have to take all the hormone stopping drugs.  Also, most of us TN's who responded well to chemo and who haven't any node involvement go on to live very long lives in spite of having BC.  I get scared often but when I look at my own stats I consider myself very lucky indeed--for dodging a bullet that could have killed me.  I like to think I am very hopeful and that this will be the last of it. Smile

    Breastcancer.org is exploring the idea of developing a "tracking" tool to help you organize and monitor your health behaviors. 
    Our question to you is,  what kinds of things would be most helpful for you to track, if any.
    Some examples could be: weight, food eaten, glasses of water per day, alcohol consumption, cigarettes smoked, daily exercise . . .     
    Would it be helpful to track health obstacles? Mood and energy levels? Health goals? Would you want these trackers to be public, or private? Would it help to be able to post your progress on the discussion boards?
    Are any of you using another sort of health tracker? If so, let us know what it is, and what you like or dislike about it.
    We look forward to hearing your constructive suggestions, and how we could help you.
