Actually, wasn't Shirley the one who posted the web site pic? I think so! Of course, it was offered as proof that the crosshairs weren't crosshairs, but surveyors thingies!

Edited to add, that I checked, and I was correct about who posted the map, candidates names, etc. from the Palin site. So, I've deleted my apology.

How come you ____ deleted Linda's post?

And how come you didn't delete my post .. you know the one where I copied and pasted a paragraph from the link she posted?  Why delete hers and not mine.

What are we playing here .. junior high school popularity contests?

Shokk .. the only person who posted a pic with targets on it was Shirley.  And geez, they weren't even  targets, they were little survey symbols.

    Get real ladies.

Edited: to take out a word .. don't want to offend anyone.

    Shokk,

Thank you for your congratulations! We on this thread pride ourselves in being the best we can be.

We state our opinions like those on the media but with a difference. Our goal is not to gain viewers, readers or to anger our friends on this thread. We are concerned, caring and for the most part, fair. We listen to others, agree or not, and try to bring out things others may not have considered. Whether I agree with a poster, I give him/her the right to be passionate in the opinion being stated. I honestly think we learn from each other if we come to this forum with an open mind.  And if the opinion that others are influenced by what they hear, see and read, is correct, then this thread, has been very eye opening to myself on many issues and diverse opinions. Maybe I was dumb but I have learned a lot.  These opinions, without regard to which side they're on, are all valuable. They are an example of that thing called "free speech".  I'd just like to see it happen without persecution from others.

You know something .. there is a very cool feature on this website .. it's called the IGNORE feature.  It's easy to use and cuts down on lots of stress.  If you don't like somebody, put them on ignore.  You never have to read another post from that person again.

All you do is click on the persons name that you want to ignore, then on the right side of the screen, click on the ignore button.

It's like magic .. no more stress!

I think the prize for earliest linking of Sarah Palin's "Reload" graphic to potential violence may really be a tie belonging to...............

    um..............

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, on March 25, 2010
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8oQi1ty1hs

and Elisabeth Hasselbeck (to her great credit) on the same date
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGoZcPayJds

I for one remembered these very well.  I happened to be watching The View when Elisabeth Hasselbeck said this.  I'm sure I'm far from the only person who remembered this and thought of it the second I heard the news from Tucson on Saturday.

I'm sure Sarah Palin heard what Elizabeth H. said on The View 9 months ago -- if SP was going to be so horrified that her "surveyor's symbols" were misunderstood as gun sights, why didn't she speak out then?

Anyone in the mood to respond:

If I "ignore" someone, what happens if they post on this thread? Do I just, not see their post? Sometimes this thing gets to moving and I have trouble keeping up. If a post were missing that everyone was responding to, I would be more confused than normal. And how do you guys know when a post has been deleted? I don't read backward, I have enough trouble with the direction I'm facing. Do you get a notice that you've been deleted or something?  Sorry! I know you're not the "thread educator"  so anyone is welcome to educate me.

Kadeeb, I'll try to respond (since my post was just deleted, I may or may not be able to actually post this).  When a post is deleted, you get an email at whatever email address you used when you registered for this site.  It simply tells you that your post was deleted, and warns that repeated deletions will result in a ban from this site.  That's obviously what certain people here are trying to do to me and others.

I find it sad that a link to a very thoughtful article on the consequences of hateful political rhetoric would be deleted from this thread.

Kadeeb .. it's usually pretty easy to follow the conversation based on the comments following an ignored poster.  And if you get lost, you can always talk about sports or brussel sprouts!

Thank you ladies and it's nice to see everyone is enjoying their brussel sprouts. I have 8 inches of snow on the ground here in North Alabama and it may be days before we dig out. No work again tomorrow. I'm going to check and see if I have any b sprouts in the freezer. I'm hungry!

Well as my granddaughter would say for crying outside. What the heck was posted that was sooo terrible that it had to be deleted. Freedom of speech indeed.

I guess the "Do UNTO others as you would have them do unto YOU" does not take precedent in this thread.  I find that most of the members who post "right", "left" or in the "middle" are mature enough to understand that free speech means allowing others to voice their opinions even if they don't AGREE with yours!  However, we have a few "rotten" apples in the barrel who I think are never going to change even tho they aren't in the majority for what we want for this thread.  They are on here for one purpose.  Not to learn and share ideas but to play "Let's see who I can delete today".

Now unless I misunderstood her, Melissa seemed to give the understanding that SHE would give us the names of the deleters.  Until Melissa cooperates and does this, she is actually condoning their bad behavior and helping "them"  to eventually get this thread deleted too.  IF any poster on here knows who the deleters are, I do hope they will have the courage to either state it on this thread or PM certain members of this thread they respect and share this with them.  If Melissa can't or won't help us, we MUST join together to help ourselves before this thread gets deleted too!

I think this is so pathetic that someone or ones would keep doing this to people who are fighting daily to survive a terrible illness and only want a place to go where they can share with others who are fighting the same illness!   Maybe we don't talk about bc constantly because we don't want to spend 24 hrs a day being reminded of it!  Maybe all these other posts help us to concentrate on something besides bc and that is a GOOD thing imo!  I am sure I could find political discussion groups to talk politics but if I have ladies I enjoy writing to on here to talk to, why should I have to go elsewheres??

I do hope we will seriously start naming the deleters if not on this thread then to PMs to others so the deleters will know we are going to find them and see that they are stopped.  Just my thoughts.

Hate to say this, but I don't think Melissa said she'd tell us who the deleters are. She mentioned the possibility of changing the software so that post reporters names would be made public when they reported a post.

Since many people seem to think that Elizabeth actually posted the graphic (she did not) I guess the deleter (s) must have told that to them. So much for the theory that uninvolved lurkers are doing the deleting around here.

I really think the sheriff is just another example of someone using a terrible event to promote his personal political views. He is in a position which should require him to provide proven facts and nothing more. His profession requires that he deal with facts and evidence. He may ask for opinions but they are not used in court and he isn't asked for his. He's an elected official and the nature of his job should not be to incite public opinion. If he honestly believes what he says he should consider that he might be setting some nut of another flavor off.  He going to run again for something and is taking advantage of the situation. If this had been another county, no one would care what he thought or be trying to interview him. And if you think this won't be brought out at the trial, think again.

During the DC shootings, the sheriff was genuine, concerned and professional. If he had an opinion, you didn't hear it on TV. He was extremely careful to give accurate information and not speculate. He knew that, if they ever caught and tried those two, he might have to justify every move he made and thing he said.  He did not want to provide anything the defense could twist to help the criminals. His job was to catch them, which he did, not to propose reasons why they might be killing innocent people. (and I have no idea if he's a demo or a rep or a left or right and don't care. He was just good at his job.)

Alpal:  Maybe I misunderstood what she said but I thought sure she agreed to help us by letting us know who they were.  If I'm wrong then I guess we are on our own and it is more important that we do it ourselves.  Frankly, I don't know who they are but if I did, I would turn their names into Melissa and if she didn't help us then, I would be forced to go above her head to the other woman.  I just didn't want it to come to this.  We'll see.

Melissa knows exactly who they are. We don't need to turn their names into her. Maybe something will be done about it, but I'm not holding my breath.
